Great Little Portable Projector!
by KelvinJae on August 6, 2009
Pros: The size of the unit, the portability, the fact that the LED is RGB and not White. The image size that this small unit can project!
Cons: I wish they designed the remote controller of the unit a little differently.

Summary: I got this little micro projector as a gift from my girlfriend recently. Although I wasn?t very knowledgeable with projectors to begin with, but when I received this projector as a gift I started doing my own research and was quite astonished and interested about projectors in general. I was surprised to find out that the BenQ GP1 had only 100 lumens, which is ridiculously low compared to most projectors, even home theater projectors that usually only work in complete or close to complete darkness. The reason why I was surprised is because the brightness of the GP1 is actually a lot brighter than the numerical 100 lumens, perhaps because it uses LED bulbs instead so use a different Lumen measurement?
And the end result? I love it! It?s the most portable little thing I can imagine. It?s better than a small laptop to bring around to watch movies with your friends or girlfriend/boyfriend. When you bring your laptop over, you?re only limited to your laptop?s monitor screen size, but if you bring your GP1, you?re limited with an 80? extremely bright image that has the ability to connect with your USB and play all mainstream movie, picture, and audio files! The little speakers on the unit aren?t extremely loud, but if you got 2 to 3 people with you in a quiet sitting it?s more than enough!
Of course you could always connect the projector to your computer to project something perhaps off a DVD? So it is literally the most portable and perfect projector to go with. I?m not exactly sure why the prices on CNET are so expensive, but I searched on other websites and found it for about $500 dollars. And the best part of it all is that you will never need to spend money on replacing the bulbs, because the lamp life will last for 20,000 hours before replacing it! The unit itself is also so tiny and compact that I?ve used it during a presentation for one of my entrepreneurial business courses. Instead of bringing a laptop and a projector, I just brought the GP1 and my USB, plugged it in and I was good to go! -

Pros: - 3LED (RGB) technology for rich colors
- Portability, low weight and size
- Can connect with many other gadgets like iPod, iPhone, USB Stick, cell phone, smartphone, etc.
- Touch keypad and easy-to-navigate user interfaceCons: - the projector bag is a little weak

Summary: With the GP1 Benq developed certainly one of the top products in the mini projector category. I?ve been comparing mini projectors for a while and finally decided to go for the Benq GP1. One of the most important things for projectors is certainly the picture quality and brightness. This mini projector does a good job here, coming with 3LED (RGB) technology which produces much richer colors than LCD technology. Also, 100 ANSI lumens are enough to display good pictures up to a size of 80 inches. 100 lumens doesn?t sound much, but is quite a lot for LED technology as LEDs are three times brighter than normal projector lamps. With a 100 lumens Benq currently plays in the top league of mini projectors.
I did NOT buy this device with the intention to use it as a home theatre projector. My intention was to bring it to other places like friends? houses and parties and to show a couple of pics and movies from my other portable devices like iPod, USB Flash stick, cell phone, etc.
This is also supposed to be the main purpose for the GP1 anyway and here it shows it real strengths. Don?t compare it to home theatre projectors because that will distort your comparison result. Or would you carry a 10 lbs with the size of 5 x 10 x15 inches in your bag all the time??
Anyway, I enjoy the portability and the connectability with other gadgets. Combined with the 3LED display technology this is really a fun gadget and has contributed to many memorable gatherings with friends and family.
