Summary: After searching all over the web to find a review of the Viewsonic PJD6531w projector with no success I decided to purchase it on a blind leap of faith. It arrived at my doorstep on February 25th, 2010.
The first thing to note is that this projector WILL NOT be compatible with future 3d blu-ray disks unless there is a firmware update because it has an HDMI 1.3b input. The new 3d Blu-rays will require HDMI 1.4. That being said, it is great for playing the new Avatar game on PS3 in 3d.
The first thing I noticed was how bright this projector is. This was an upgrade for me from my Optomata HD70 which was a great projector for the 2 years I had it, but I wanted something with a 120hz refresh rate. The 2nd thing to note is how big the picture was comparatively. You need very little throw distance with this projector, from the same mounting position as my HD70 I would say I had a good 2 feet more picture in any direction. I like the integrated audio, though at times it is distracting in relation to my surround sound because its a bit distorted. I decided to just turn those speakers off completely but at night when I don't want to wake the girl friend with the full surround sound, those speakers give plenty of sound. The projector itself has fans that are a bit noisy, nothing too terrible but definitely noticeable.
I am looking forward to when Texas Instruments releases its DLP link glasses in May because the Nividia 3d vision kit I purchased to go along with this projector only has a 10' wire and doesn't reach to my screen so my glasses can't sync unless I keep my head perfectly still, the nice thing about the dlp link glasses is that they link up directly with the projector and you don't need an emitter.
The color preset out of the box are OK, nothing to write home about, but with a standard tweaking this projector will display fantastic color clarity and a super sharp picture. I have my entire system running through an Onkyo TX-SR707 A/V receiver and up-convertor and the picture is superb.
All in all though, I am quite pleased with this purchase, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to play The Avatar game in 3d on the PS3, but if you are looking to future proof your home theater with 3D you are better off waiting for an HDMI 1.4 version which is right around the corner. But if you just want a good 120hz projector and don't want to spend $4000, this is a good choice.
Also note that unless you have an A/V receiver that is HDMI 1.4 compatible you will need to upgrade that as well if you want true 3d.
