Summary: After two years of research, many many visits to the local Bose store, lots of questions asked, we finally took the plunge with the latest model and enjoyed a 10% sale that was offered at the time! We were looking to replace our current home theatre system with the very large Kiplisch speakers (one of the main reasons for the search and hence was attracted to the jewel boxes) and we were looking for a replacement that was more befitting an apartment space. Addtional extra was the remote ended up operating more like a harmony, which was not what we had orginally thought (we remain a harmony-run family, with this one exception). All hooked up to the receiver include the TV, tivo, xbox, apple tv, and play station.
If you will buy the Bose Lifestyle V35, I suggest you have to check for best deal before you decide at: Bestdealschecking.info/bose-lifestyle-v35
We love the slim line look of the receiver and without all the huge speakers in the room, we feel we have gained back a lot of space. The receiver has inputs/outputs that really reflects the current modern day demands and entertainment devices. The speakers are amazing: the centre one offers the best sound in terms of hearing speach in any genre and we are not raising the volume to hear the talking part of a program and then having to turn down the volume when all the sound effects come into play!
The set up takes a while, even for my husband who is a technical nerd, but that maybe because of all the additional devices we had to program the remote to learn. The sound testing system is cool and I am sure that is why we are so enjoying the surround sound effects and the clarity of the voices is beautiful. The speakers bring music to life - seriously. we played so many genre and each one just echoed with such depth that you would have thought you were in the recording studio. We were impressed with the integration of the receiver with the speakers and the sound testing that came with the set-up.
One thing to note, we opted to have wireless back speakers which required additional hardware to be purchased. The sound quality is a tad better with the back speakers wired; but we opted for wireless and we will probably end up not noticing in the long run!
The remote was a dream and it did take a little time to learn the language of all our devices. We thought we couldnt use the infra-red wireless headphones with it - well you can! The cord has be be jacked in the front panel of the receiver and you have to turn up the volume to hear.
Like everyone, we were also aware of the high costs, but when you break it down, tangible and tangible benefits do out weigh the 'cost number'. For those of you who are looking for a cleaner look and good sound quality (loves movies and many genre of music: I am trying to differentiate from those who have ears that pick up a whole lot more than the average population and are very fussy about what they listen to): this being said, it is really worth a look and a serious investigation at this latest Bose Model.
This product was not bought on a whim and we had a lot of high demands and requirements, especially where the hamrony-like features and the wireless headphones were concerned! Seriously, we held back from buying the model earlier as we were still investigating on whether the Harmony could be trained for the Bose system: in the end we were impressed with the Bose remote! (but if you will buy the Bose Lifestyle V35, I suggest you have to compare prices before you decide at: "www.*********.info/BoseLifestyleV35" )
We have had the system for over a week now and we cant stop pinching ourselves on the recent purchase and wonder why we had waited so long.

Oh, so close, but still not the perfect HTIB
by imcnet on June 5, 2010
Pros: Small, compact footprint unmatched by any other home theatre system. Bose Jewel speakers are time tested, have a 5-year warranty and sound great.
Cons: The Bose V35 commands a top notch price. $3300.00. For that price, I would expect a top notch return policy and a top notch system warranty. Unfortunately, Bose only gives you 30-days to try this system and a short one-year warranty.

Summary: If you want a compact, 4-port, HDMI HTIB system, there is no equal to the Bose V35. Bose does an excellent job getting all devices to power from the master Bose remote, but there are limitations to its greatness. The initial thing you will find is that each component has to be powered on/off individually. So, you turn on the Bose V35, then turn the TV on, then turn on the device you want to use. Three steps to get powered up is unacceptable. At a minimum, when the V35 power On switch is activated, the TV should power up automatically as the V35 remote uses the TV for the remote control navigation.
As for the sound of the V35, Bose uses the long time veteran Jewel Speakers which have been around since 1993 I believe. Given their size, they sould great, but as always, one typically either loves or hates the sound of a Bose system. The clarity of the Jewel speakers is top notch. If you haven't heard the Bose Jewel speakers, go try them. Don't listen to the Bose haters that swear off the Jewel speakers. I suggest those that really hate the Jewel speakers, really hate the price of them, not the sound. Others will tell you that the Jewel speakers are not built well. Well, Bose stands behind them with a 5-yr warranty so that is a mute point. Go try 'em.
As for the system, I reiterate once again, for the size of the Bose V35 A/V receiver, there is no equal on the market today. The V35 is compact, supports up to 4 HDMI devices, 3 in rear, 1 in front, and looks great on your A/V stand. Unfortunately, given the hefty price of the V35 system, I felt the receiver seemed cheap. Very light, built from cheap components and not what I would have expected for $3300. So the $3300 question is, just how good are the components of the V35? I do not know. I can live with a lightweight system that is backed up by a a good warranty, but Bose only provides a 12-month warranty on this system. Most premium A/V receivers offer three or five year warranty's so I am perplexed by Bose on this one.
The Bose V35 system captures the essense of what new HDMI home theatre customers want. A compact system that primarily uses HDMI inputs, with robust compact speakers, a centralized remote and a system that sounds great.
For $3300, the HUGE dilemma for the end-user is, just how well will the V35 stand up over time given the skimpy Bose warranty. This was a major mistake on Bose's behalf.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Outstanding sound in a very small footprint
by wego4 on December 1, 2010
Pros: The setup is incredibly simple and easy. The jewel cube speakers put out sound with great clarity, crispness and not muddy. The bass comes in when the director calls for it and no more. The rear speakers actually project incredibly.
Cons: Our major beef is that the sales staff said it would learn all remotes. NOT TRUE. We have a Charter Cable MOXI cable box and the bose system is not able to learn it. Also problems with a very recent Panasonic blue ray player.
Summary: Bottom line----We felt the Bose system was a step up and a cool clean look. We had an Onkyo receiver with Polk mid price speakers and the sound was not ...
Summary: Bottom line----We felt the Bose system was a step up and a cool clean look. We had an Onkyo receiver with Polk mid price speakers and the sound was not as crisp, clean and direct. The Bose system is very good but you have to swallow hard to pay the $3100 purchase price. They have a liberal 30 day return policy so you can buy, evaluate and return with no restocking fee if you decide the sound and look of the system are not worth the $3100. We will be keeping our system. We love it.

They nailed it!! ON Screen display + Ipod is PERFECT!
by AudioPhile87 on June 18, 2010
Pros: You can't NOT hook this up the right way. No matter what you do there is a prompt to make sure it works right every time you use it! Powered on the bose system without my Blu-ray being on and it told me my player was off I hit OK and it turned on!
Cons: Only downfall in my opinion is the sound quality could be better. However, I'm an audiophile! I can get better but I must spend more. This system is hands down the BEST for the money.

Summary: Most people think Bose as a brand is expensive. Well after weeks of comparison shopping and listening to those dreadful "speaker rooms of death" I decided that bose was perfect, both in price, functionality, and cosmetics. With systems ranging from $799-$3299.99 I was able to fill my whole house with bose and use my discretion on where I wanted which system. Granted, I still have my 2-channel Martin Logan 10K speakers for classical music but I must say the re-production of sound that you get from the V35 is AMAZING! Hands down this is an UNMATCHED audio system for the money, being bundled with IPOD charger/dock and a full ONE-TOUCH RF remote with easy on screen guides to walk you through the setup process, why go with anything else? If you are looking for a system you only have to buy once and don't want to replace every 3-5 yrs---THIS IS IT!

Very well configured system with great sound.
by rootj1 on October 25, 2010
Pros: 1. Ease of configuration of components and placement of speakers; 2. Sound is great; 3. Advanced features and displays; 4. Numerous options for connectivity; 5. Simplified remote operations.
Cons: 1. 1 yr warranty, seriously - that's it. So far, everything else is great.

Summary: I was pretty concerned about spending this kind of money on a home system. That was until I started the set-up and heard the quality sound. From purchase time to complete set up was less than three hours (with a 30 minute drive home) - I am now sure this was a wise purchase. Simple setup and great quality. It would be pretty difficult to set this system up wrong. I replaced an 8-year old home theater system with the V35 and was not sure how it would perform once I set the BOSE system up. The setup was as accurate and quick - If you can read, you can configure this system. The V35 reduced the number of wires to / from the TV and the components by 80% - so the overall install looks pretty professional - and did I mention the quality! It's the perfect choice if you enjoy great quality sound with a high-level of sophistication in your electronics.

Too expensive and not what it suppose to be
by vkal on June 5, 2011
Pros: nice looking speakers, good sound quality
Cons: other components such as Onkyo receiver does not work with the new Bose system

Summary: Had a Lifestyle 12 for over 8 years and did not have any problems until about a year ago the remote pad was all warn out so instead of buying a new remote decided to upgrade to Lifestyle 35 since the old one was not compatible with new components such as blu ray dvd player. After paying a bundle of money to the installer found out that in order to be able to listen to music on the outside speakers or the other rooms we need to purchase an additional Bose link Cable and an expansion remote which means we have to pay extra for the items and shipping as well as the installer. Besides that the sub woofer stopped working 2 weeks later. I called for tech support and thank God that this happened in less than 30 days so they asked me to ship the old one to them so they can replace it with the new one. My main concern now is what if this happens after a year how much is it going to cost me to get it repaired. For an item this expense there should be a longer warranty than the one year. Our old system worked with no problems and to be honest I am not sure there is that much of an improvement on the sound from the old one. I love the Bose products but I think they need to give better warranty. The tech support and all the employees I talked to at Bose are very knowledgeable and sincere. I hope that my concern about future problems are unwarranted and will go on to enjoy this new system for many years to come.

Too Proprietary

Pros: Good sound, upgradable system that recognizes most peripherals.

Summary: I bought a Lifestyle V35 with great expectations after having used a Lifestyle 20 for many years. What I find is that, overall, I am disappointed. The sound is comparable between the old and new systems. The 20 was a 2.1; the V35 is a 5.1; the V35 should be vastly superior; it isn't. Beyond that, I am sorely disappointed in the remote setup in the V35. I used remotes in four rooms with the 20. I liked the whole thing. One can use one, and only one, Lifestyle® Unify? remote control with the base unit for the V35. Peripherals have their own RC-35S2 remote controls but work only if they are Bose® link products. Legacy peripherals get merely a constant audio feed; volume and other remote controls do not work.

Really very good picture quality an outstanding sound
by linux_os2 on April 28, 2011
Pros: Sound exceptionally good. even in rooms that are not an audio studio.
Video upscaling is better than what I ever have seen.
Remote handling very well.
Looks very cool (important for many of our house wives)Cons: Most of the dealers in the neighborhood of Antwerp Belgium except one are not worth to sell a bose system; they are incompetent money beasts.

Summary: When I was asked by a friend to help choose new speakers for the NAD audio system for the new apartment of his son, I taught we would never find a system that could sound good in the environment of this apartment. It is an old building in Antwerp that was used for a factory, later it housed a financial company. The living where the system has to foresee the sound measures 15 by 7 meter and is a concrete construction with very big windows. The floor is a sort of epoxy resin based stuff that shines like a mirror. No carpet, no curtains, table and chairs in RVS steel. Really the perfect audio studio :) .
I was investigating open panel speaker systems, eventually we would build them ourselves.
After some time my friend asked me: what do you think about bose? I knew this system from another friend who has v20, I now started to explore the bose systems.
Now I discovered a new sort of audio systems. I was used to the classical audio amplifiers that are build to amplify a signal as pure as possible (like my still operational kenwood L01A , 2 x 450 W rms in my garage of 3,5 x 4 meter :) ) in that time the nineteen-seventies all was about flatness of the band width of all components of a system starting from the pickup transducer up to the speakers, also the room (I have build an audio-tent using very thick theater-carpets in my garage, even a modest speaker system sounds great, monitors even better :) )
Bose uses a complete different approach the produce sound. The system uses very powerful drivers to drive a new sort of audio transducers not taking care of the band-with of the system but well of the reliability of the sound wave production, what I mean is that when they drive the system with a certain electrical signal, the drivers will produce the exact same sound wave in a very broad range of the designed power range ( and I expect much more than that). So now the sound-wave arrives some where always the same.
To make the sound nearly as close what the microphones detected when the recording was taken they use a system where at a number of points a sample is taken of sound waves by a reference microphone (the "headset" of the ADAPTiQ audio calibration system) during the installation of the system in the target location. Then the minicomputer system in the system compares the sound-waves arrived at the ears of the listener with the original electrical waveform used during this tune test. Because the processors the minicomputer are so powerful (compare them with what was used in mainframes of a 3-letter company, starting with an I ending with a M, a couple of years ago) the system can then apply the difference in a very detailed way to the electrical signal before feeding it to the driver system. You could compare it with the system used in the power steering of you car. A feedback system is used to adjust the faults of the system. And as I explained earlier these faults in the bose system are always the same so they do not need to do the feedback continuously. The minicomputer remembers how to do it.
The proccessors are sh4 ST71xx, 2 of them in the nice main system and one in the acoustimas module (subwoofer). The operating system is a STLinux and is opensource, you can order the code and have to pay only the medium and handling costs.
The software is updateble via the web, a usbstick is provided by bose for that matter.
Now we could really test this new audio technology in very extreme situation. We decided to by one (the 48 DVD system it is technically the same as the V35 but has a DVD player build in)
The result in the puristic minimalistic living is qua sound exceptionally good. Al sorts of music from classical to heavy metal in all sorts of volume level as it should be: vivid crisp detail-full (do yo know some other terms used???) it is just very good.
It is even very strange to hear a near perfect sound of Herbert von Karajan & Berliner Philharmoniker, and then when you speak to each other you hear the echo due to the sort of environment.
My wife and I were invited for new-year-eve by the son of my friend so my wife could finally see this system.
My friend put on a dud of the European song contest with the song of ABBA her favorite. She said to me: I you want you can have a bose for your new-year. So you can take away these huge boxes out of our living. She had not to tell me that a second time. I went for the V35 and I am so happy!!!.
What most sellers tell about self-learning remote is not exact .
The bose system asks you to press some keys on your original remote and so searches in hes own database of remote codes to find a match. If not found you can try to do a manual setting by choosing the right manufacturer and eventually the right sub-code. If you happen to have a very new component then first download the new firmware for the bose system and then upgrade the system. In my case it helped to get the IR codes for my QboxHD receiver.
My friend has a NAD with Cabasse speaker system. I costed 4 times the price of my bose. The sound is very good. But my friend says that bose sounds much better at low volume. The NAD - Cabasse combination needs a minimum of volume to sound good.
My garage system now has also surround via a panasonic system (got it from the son of my friend) and I use the 2 x450 watt Kenwood as a luxe sub-woofer driver. The speakers for the sub-woofer are 250 Watt at 8 ohm so I get some 500 Watt sub in the garage.
My wife says that the sound in the garage is good and made for Safre Duo (heavy stuff) but that the sound in the living from the V35 is much more detailed. (my wife has no idea wath the price of each of the systems is.
My cat called Linux prefers the garage (sound) but maybe thats due to the comfortable club seats I put there :) .
Bose does not advertise any power rating of the systems bu I have the impression that it is more than adequate even for the more demanding tasks like viewing a action film. I love the sound in the beginning of the Transformers when the unidentified helicopter arrives and transforms: cool.
I had to use some foam to get rid of sound from the dishes and ... in the cupboard. Redo the adaptic calibration after this intervention. -

Summary: This bose jewel speakers is bose flagship speakers, its sound great, clarity is awesome, but it is design to a medium size room and not good for open space room. It is very expensive HTIB but the sound quality its offer is nothing to other brand. If you have money to burn go ahead with this. It depend on your application and taste..for me I setup this system in my bedroom home theatre so its perfect system. If you want to setup this in a large home theatre maybe it not the one you looking foor.
