The bad: Design has some usability issues; no video inputs; no automatic speaker calibration; PC streaming feature is more trouble than it's worth.

Excellent Bang for your Buck
by chris55969 on August 3, 2011
Pros: Pros: Blu-ray player, streaming Netflix and Pandora, iPod/iPhone dock (tho I haven't used this yet, as I have neither an iPod or iPhone). Exterior has a nice finish to it, very clean looking. Speakers have great sound and good subwoofer bass, in a reasona
Cons: Cons: Either I haven't figured out how to, or there is no way to control the subwoofer volume. It hasn't been a big issue for me, so I didn't really look too far into it. As with any black/dark colored electronics, it's a dust magnet. The speakers are goo

Summary: All in all, you're getting a very good HTIB including a Blu-ray player for under $500.00, and sometimes under $400.00 if you shop around and/or wait for sales. Yes there were issues with the firmware on some of the products, and it took you awhile to get the update or replacement, but that's something you need to ding Samsung's customer service on, not the product itself. Remember people, these are reviews of the specific product and it's performance, not on your personal experience with a Samsung rep on the phone. I was fortunate not to have any firmware issues with my HTIB, and 2 years from my purchase, its still running strong, with no issues or problems at all. Definitely recommend to someone looking for a solid home theater with a Blu-ray player, but is like me and doesn't want to spend a small fortune to get it.

Unreliable; Samsung unresponsive to issues
by wfraser76 on January 22, 2011
Pros: - Netflix, Pandora, YouTube and Blockbuster accessible
Cons: - Randomly refuses to play DVD or Blu-ray menus
- Speakers sound tinny; struggle with treble in many films
- Initial firmware upgrades bricked the system; beware when updatingSummary: I've had nothing but trouble with my BD1250, and have had no luck in having Samsung address the issues. Here are the problems I've had:
- A Samsung ...Summary: I've had nothing but trouble with my BD1250, and have had no luck in having Samsung address the issues. Here are the problems I've had:
- A Samsung firmware update rendered the system completely frozen. Even though I'd only owned the system about a month, Samsung tried to make me pay for the repairs, despite the fact that their faulty software was to blame.
- I had to send the unit in for repair a total of three times the first year I owned it. The unit will sporadically refuse to play the main menus of DVD or Blyu-ray discs. Samsung promised to fix the unit or replace it, and have done neither. Eventually, they stopped responding to emails, phone calls, or letters.
- The speakers that came with my system don't handle treble well at all. I'm no audiophile, but I can clearly hear the tinny sound of treble during many films.
- The system stopped downloading and installing firmware updates. Now, when there's an update, the system will say there is no new update available. I have to download it and install from a flash drive. Samsung ignores questions about why this is happening, as well.
- Whenever I had to contact Samsung about a problem with the system, I was told that the company was unaware of the issue, despite the fact that a quick Google search would reveal many other people with the same issues I was having. I find it very hard to believe Samsung was unaware of any of the problems.
I wouldn't recommend purchasing this system. It just seems as though there are too many people having these issues, or similar problems, and Samsung is just not responsive enough to customer complaints. -
I got what I paid for except Netflix ready.

My first and best HTIB
by wayiv888 on November 27, 2010
Pros: Superb Sound, (Dolby TrueHD + DTS-HD), Netflix Streaming, Pandor wonders. iPod Dock is a plus
Cons: YouTube not playing properly no more, while Blockbuster is not a big deal, PC Streaming is hassle although streaming via NAS is easier, some BD & DVD titles are still incompatible.

Summary: I love the home theather system, I barely use it to play DVD nor watch netflix, but heck I have a PS3 and you can use PS3 or other BD players to play the incompatible BD or DVD if you don't like the Samsung as a player, but the sound quality still there and that's what matters. I have no problem updating to the latest firmware of 2.41 which is very good if not perfect. I'm a geek and I don't care what anyone says =D
YouTube is actually working now, it did not work for like 3 months due to policy changes

Nice, when it works.
by jwolf75 on November 9, 2010
Pros: All-in-one features.
Ability to stream from Netflix, Blockbuster, Pandora, YouTube.
Decent speaker sound (I'm not an audiophile).Cons: Wireless connection sucks - it's the rare occasion that I can actually use the streaming features.
Entering information is a pain, particularly YouTube.
Inability to adjust speakers (sub-woofer, needs it)

Summary: For my first independent, single girl-who-knows-little-about home theater systems, not entirely a bad purchase. It suited my needs and helped me learn what is important to me and what is not. I've had it for just over a year; and, I've lived in two different apartment residences in that time. That's how I discovered the need for adjusting the speakers: the sub-woofer is a bit heavy on the bass, especially in the lower registers (e.g., scary movies). It would also be nice if the speakers adjusted automatically for volume shifts (does such a thing exist? c'mon, it's gotta); I find myself *constantly* adjusting the volume so that my upstairs neighbor won't complain.
The sound quality seems good, but I'm not an audiophile.
The wireless connection - using the brand-name / correct adapter - sucks beyond compare. And, Samsung support says, "plug it the ethernet line"... Well, that would be great if that didn't mean trailing a cable through two rooms. (FYI: my apartment is only 900sf, so it's not like my router is all that far from the wireless adapter.) I say, if it's supposed to be wireless, then it should work. *THAT* is why I bought it. If I wanted to run a cable around my home, I'd have bout one of the other brands' HTIAB.
For example: I was managed to get the wireless to work this weekend. And, again this morning. I put on Pandora to work to... about 4 songs in, it just stopped. Frozen. Kaput. Then, it jumped to another song before it finished the one it froze during. It ran for another couple of songs. It stopped again. Wouldn't continue; I turned it off, back on... got to the Samsung screen with the 4 streaming options (Blockbuster, netflix, etc.) and it won't budge.
You say: but, perhaps it's your connectivity... The *same thing* happened in my last apartment, only worse. So, I think it's the wireless adapter. And, I'm sorry, but I'm not dropping another $75 on a piece of plastic when the entire system cost only $285. (Seems very strange to spend 1/4 - 1/3 the cost of something to extend its feature-set. RIP OFF.)
It also does not save your wireless access codes if it loses connectivity. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time just sitting there using the number pad on the remote to enter my access code over and over, only for it to not find the network.
Finally, the speakers cut in and out regularly. I thought it was the way the DVR was recording, but the cuts are not always in the same place (rewind, play again, different speaker issue). I had an issue from day one when went to play my first DVD (non-blu ray). The sound kept fading completely out. Never did get a solution to that. -
Excellent Sound and features for its price
by luisto30 on July 12, 2010
Pros: All the features that it had
Cons: When i have to stop the movie to do set up of the speakers for the system .
Summary: I like the product because it has all the features that are available for the blu ray home theater in a Box.

Loved the sound when it worked.

Summary: The unit started making random beeping noises. Whenever we would watch a disc, it would skip forward and stop all on its own over and over again. We sent it in to be repaired and got it back three weeks later. Guess what--it still had all the same problems AND as an added bonus would only give a picture through the component hook ups. They want us to send it back in again. Yeah, right--another few weeks without a player. Will not give us a refund, only a refurbished unit. This is the worst customer service. They obviously don't stand behind their product, even when it flat out doesn't work! Unbelievable! I will never buy Samsung again. We are still trying to get a refund.

Please wait for an update to be able to watch movies

Summary: This is a review everyone should read. I first bought this product about a year ago, and then had to pay another $80 for a wi-fi usb dongle, then another $150 for wireless rear speaker option, and it worked great. About 6 months after having it, was notified that an update was available, after update was installed, the BD player did not work at all. Had to pay for shipping to send it to Samsung, and was not given a "replacement" during the time that the BD player was being fixed (2 weeks). Once the BD player was returned had no problems until recently. It now will not play newer Blurays (i.e. Sherlock Holmes and Gamer). However, the alleged "lower end model" bluray player (Insignia brand) I have in my bedroom (which had an update out over a month ago) plays the movies just fine. When I called Samsung to ask for a solution for the problem, they essentially told me that I have to just be patient and wait for their update to come out, of which, they have zero idea when that would be released. So essentially they're telling me, the consumer, "tough luck, we don't really care that your BD player isn't doing what it was purchased to do, you have to sit and wait until we decide to get our act together with an update, even though other companies already have". One would think that such a high-end company like Samsung would be in close communications with BD manufacturing companies long before any bluray disc would be released that wouldn't currently work on their products. It is certainly not hard for Insignia and other companies to do.
