The good: 5.1 home theater system; built-in Blu-ray player; best-in-class sound quality; excellent image quality on Blu-ray movies; Netflix and Pandora streaming; fast Blu-ray load times; iPod dock included; attractive exterior design.
The bad: Design has some usability issues; no video inputs; no automatic speaker calibration; PC streaming feature is more trouble than it's worth.
The bottom line: Samsung's HT-BD1250 home theater system has built-in Blu-ray, streaming media from Netflix and Pandora, and excellent audio and video quality, making it our top budget Blu-ray all-in-one system.

Had it for almost a year, and it's going in the garbage
by gregneff on May 15, 2010
Pros: Low cost, for those on a tight budget.
Cons: Have to pull out the unit to wiggle the cheap speaker connectors that stop making contact.
Massive volume difference between sources; get blasted switching from stereo to dolby TV channels.
Compatibility problems with Logitech Harmony remote.Summary: Samsung tech support was a struggle, and tried to blame everything else for the volume problem, until I proved it was the Samsung unit. Many other customers have reported the ...
Summary: Samsung tech support was a struggle, and tried to blame everything else for the volume problem, until I proved it was the Samsung unit. Many other customers have reported the same problem (see CNET forum). Samsung did nothing to correct this design problem, and I suspect it could be fixed in firmware. The connector problem is also a design issue, but I see no point in getting replacement unit(s) and continuing to pull the unit out to wiggle the cheap crimp connectors. Also, speaker sound quality is poor, so I have already replaced the speakers. I am very dissapointed in this unit, and would recommend it only to those that cannot afford more.

Fantastic audio visual quality, let down by usability
by tp575 on April 27, 2010
Pros: Clear sound and punchy subwoofer
Clear and smooth picture
Convenience of 1 box system
Auto-volume is great for turning the system down during commercial breaks, if only you could turn it off for other use!!!Cons: A pain to use, iPod interface is rubbish compared to Panasonic, no shuffle, re-arranges songs in playlists, pain to change speaker volumes
Auto-Volume is really irritating and can't turn it off, if play music loudly the volume is all over the placeSummary: Speakers are fantastic but really let down by interface, my previous Panasonic SC460 was so much better. Remote works fine with TV but temperamental with HTK.
Why is there no ...Summary: Speakers are fantastic but really let down by interface, my previous Panasonic SC460 was so much better. Remote works fine with TV but temperamental with HTK.
Why is there no separate mode for the iPod??? Having to open the tray, remove the disc, close the tray, go to menu etc is so unnecessary
Auto volume is infuriating, volume is all over the place especially when playing racing games and the revs build up (thats when you want it to be loud!!!!) but cant turn it off -
Great on paper, really bad in practice

Pros: Netflix streaming works great. Sound is great. Really like the design.

Summary: For some reason this thing managed to work pretty well for a while. The first one I bought was completely wrecked by a firmware update. I took it back to the retailer and exchanged it for the same model, then never updated the firmware again. I think Samsung finally took down the bad firmware update, because now it says my firmware is up to date. However, this means I don't have youtube or blockbuster access on mine.
Aside from the firmware, the system is really buggy. It seemed to get worse with time, too. Even regular dvds seem to lock up on a regular basis now.
Another frustration is that if you stop a dvd, and then try to start again, it almost always goes to the disc menu instead of where you left off. Also, when there is a disc in the player, the player will always load the disc before you can stop it in order to access netflix or pandora. This usually takes a few minutes, so it's kind of a pain.
I do think the sound quality is very good. Features wise, it's got about all I need. I just wish it worked consistently. -
Absolutely LOVE this system!

QualityCons: The main complaint for me is that the iPod connection only allows for you to play your mp3s and videos. I have an iPhone and I'd like to be able to listen to my Sirius app.

Summary: It doesn't matter WHAT product you read reviews on....there will ALWAYS be the snobs who expect to get a $1,000 performance out of a $500 unit and there will ALWAYS be people who just simply have no idea what they are doing and attributing it to a bad product.
That being said....I love this theater system. I haven' t had a single problem. I bought the wifi dongle and watch free Netflix movies instantly every night. I listen to Pandora while folding clothes or cleaning up a little. Blurays look and sound great and DVDs look and sound almost as good. The looks of this unit are FAR superior to the other units in its class. -
Great System ..Simply Awesome
by himanshu0310 on January 5, 2010
Pros: Lots of good features: Netfilx is also perfect , sound subwoofer everything execellent ..if you are looking for v.good HT and don't want to pay much..take this time blindly ..trust me.
Cons: Only one thing, cannot play videos from USB.
Summary: I think worth buying in that much of price. Bose is exceptional but BD1250 is worth buying in that much of price range. I hope my opinion will help you ...

Summary: After two days and three Bluray movies later, I packed up the system and returned to Best Buy (despite the decent price). It was my first system owership, so I can't be a true test to sound and technical good/bad qualities. I can tell you, however, that, while watching a movie (x 3 separate times!), it just seems abnormal for the player to just stop on its own. One the third and final movie I watched on it, the BluRay player actually stopped on its own then returned to the beginning of the movie. When I attempted to intervene and try to return to the last 10 minutes of the movie, it would just have the scene on the screen but not play. I had to eject it and watch it on another player in another room (which worked just fine). I was a bit nervous when I read all the poor reviews once I got this player home but gave it a try anyway. The movies convinced me to return it (as I read another review reporting the same issue). I sure didn't want to get stuck with sending it to Samsung after reading the horror stories by others and all the poor ratings on this model. Glad I returned it. Looking for another more reliable product. Advice: check reviews by other purchasers before dropping the bucks (and heed their warnings!)

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS SYSTEM - MAJOR FIRMWARE PROBLEMS
by mbpollack on December 24, 2009
Pros: - Great sound
- Excellent Blu-Ray
- Streaming Pandora and Netflix
- Easy set up
- StylishCons: - MAJOR FIRMWARE PROBLEMS
- Sound delay when using optical audio with FiOS

Summary: I loved this system for the two weeks I had it. The sound was fantastic. So fantastic, in fact, that it earned complaints from my downstairs neighbors, who complained that the subwoofer was shaking their light fixtures. The video was excellent. It gave my DVDs new life and its Blu-Ray play back was very impressive.
And then I made the mistake of clicking yes when it asked me if I wanted to upgrade my firmware. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PEOPLE, DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE. The download bricked my system and I've been fighting with Samsung's customer service department for more than six weeks since.
When I first called, they told me to send in the system and that they would fix it and send it back to me within 10 - 14 business days. After 16 business days, I called them. My system was unfixable and they would be replacing it with a new unit. This would take another 10 - 14 business days. After 16 business days, I called again. They said to be patient. I was.
Yesterday, I received a call from Samsung saying that they were out of stock of the 1250, and offered to replace it with another system that is "exactly the same, but without the touch of color," the HT-BD1200. When I looked up the replacement system, I learned that it was not the same at all. It retailed for less money and was not nearly as well reviewed. It also came with completely different speakers.
When I called back today to ask them about this, the woman I spoke admitted that the speakers were "skinnier" but that the system "did the same things." I asked her whether she thought the speakers were an important part of a SOUND system, she replied "I'm a woman. I don't care about these things. If I can hear it, I'm good." Thanks, Samsung.
I asked for a refund for my system and they have refused to provide me one. I am currently awaiting a call back from a manager.
I've dealt with Samsung in the past and been very happy. I have a Samsung TV and I've had two Samsung cell phones in the past. But I can assure you, I'll never buy Samsung again. Do yourself a favor and get the similar LG system. -
Great system for $, but samsung lan stick is too much
by yermom on December 22, 2009
Pros: Surprisingly full sound for the size and feel of the speakers. Easy setup (even has extra long speaker wire for rears). Netflix and pandora are fantastic additions, and come off without a hitch, except...
Cons: ... if you have to go wireless; prepare to pay $60-$80 for $amsung's proprietary lan schtick or, IF YOU OWN A LAPTOP, set it up as network bridge, and jack it in when streaming. you'll thank me. go donate $20 to spca for me.

BlockBuster and Youtube available also.
by _prasad on December 20, 2009
Pros: New firmware is aviaible since June 2009 and now along with netflix and pandora, "Blockbluster" & "youtube" live straming features are also aviable. This is really a cool feature.
Cons: Samsung is very bad in its service. I got the new firmware version but after installing it, stopped my player functioning. Though samsung provided me new replacement after 1.5 mths, it frustrated me with so many calls to cust care & lot of follow up.
Summary: Except samsung service, when it comes to player, it is awesome. It gives a great experience with so much little burden on your credit card :-)

This thing rocks
by UndulatingAcrobat on December 17, 2009
Pros: DVD upconvert is the best I have seen. It has paid for itself with the savings I can realize bot not having to rebuy some DVDs on bluray. Looks cool with the red TOC look - which matches my Samsung 50" plasma.
Cons: Cons? For $299 retail ($344 with shipping and tax) that I paid on BJs website over Black Friday, not a one.
Summary: If you can get it at the price I paid, don't even think about. Even if you can't, it is worth the money if you need home theater ...
Summary: If you can get it at the price I paid, don't even think about. Even if you can't, it is worth the money if you need home theater in a box. There is not much to beat this out there.
