Good player made useless by obsolete firmware
by billsmithaz on December 26, 2009
Pros: Good picture, decent sound
Cons: VERY long load times, no equalizer settings or sound configuration options. Firmware nine months out of date as of December 2009, causing the player to fail to load/play many titles released since March 2009.

Summary: This was a decent home theater system when I purchased it nearly a year ago. However, Samsung hasn't released a firmware update since March 2009, nine months ago at the time I'm writing this. Between movie purchases and rentals, I've now had five discs that the player couldn't load. I've reached the point where I no longer buy Blu-Ray discs without verifiying that they were released before March 2009, as I refuse to gamble $20 - $40 for a movie that I'm not sure that I'll be able to play.
When I called Samsung tech support to ask when a new firmware update will be released, two different support technicians told me that the release schedule is for a new update every three months, meaning that there should be an update in January 2010. When I pointed out that their last release was nine months ago, they simply repeated that the next release will be in January, based on the release schedule.
I'm glad they have such confidence in a schedule that has apparently slipped for the last three updates. I have NO confidence in that schedule, and can't tell if Samsung will even continue to support this product. -
Unreliable System
by J_42 on November 25, 2009
Pros: Good Sound. Good Audio.
Cons: With just normal usage: within a couple days the speaker broke, and within a few months the Receiver/Blu-ray player broke 3 times.
Summary: I don't recommend buying any Samsung product until they get these kinks worked out.

Disappointed
by rmathews3 on April 15, 2009
Pros: Excellent picture quality and good sound
Cons: Doesn't play some BR disks and is incredibly slow. Sometimes I don't know if it's not going to play the disk or if it just working endlessly in loading the disk.
Summary: Buy something else.

Still On The Fence
by KS1680 on January 17, 2009
Pros: Great sound quality for the price.
Great picture and easy to use.
Plenty of inputs for all of my components.
Looks great with the piano finish.Cons: Long loading times (only on certain Blu Ray discs)
1.0 (not a huge deal for me, but it would be nice to have 1.1 or higher)Summary: I'm still on the fence. I bought mine in October and it worked fine. The sound shakes my entire theater room and I even hooked up the TV and ...
Summary: I'm still on the fence. I bought mine in October and it worked fine. The sound shakes my entire theater room and I even hooked up the TV and Wii to play audio through the 5.1 system. No complaints about the audio. Regular DVDs and Blu Ray discs look amazing through it on my Samsung HDTV.
Here's the problem. I tried to do a firmware upgrade and the machine wouldn't take it. I plugged it into the modem through an ethernet cable and the system wouldn't connect to the internet. I tried burning an upgrade disc and the machine wouldn't read the disc. I even had Samsung mail me a CD-R disc with the firmware upgrade on it and the machine still wouldn't read it. I sent it to Samsung for repair and they shipped it back in worse shape than I sent it out. I tried to get a new Blu Ray from Samsung and they said it had to go to repair a second time before they will replace it with a new one. I'm sending it out for the second time on Monday. Perhaps I just happened to get a busted Blu Ray player, who knows?
If the Blu Ray worked properly like it should, I would greatly increase my rating. I guess I will have to wait and see what happens. My advice, if you purchase this HTIB from Best Buy or a similar store, purchase the extended protection plan. I didn't and I have to deal directly with Samsung. Had I bought the protection plan from Best Buy, I could have just returned the Blue Ray for a new one (one for one swap).
The bottom line is that for $800 this HTIB is a great deal. The picture and sound quality are that of a higher grade system. I guess like all electronics, sometimes they dont work correctly. -
At first I liked it, now I'm taking it back.

Pros: The Blue Ray player is very nice looking. Very easy to set up. Lots of wire for each speaker. Great sound at first.
Cons: Having to stop a DVD or CD to adjust the speaker levels. Long loading time for disk playback. Center Channel speaker couldn't handle volume over 40 (I believe it goes to 50) speaker started "humming".
Summary: Even though I'm returning this product, I will only be exchanging it for another one. I'm giving it a second chance, as I may have just had a ...
Summary: Even though I'm returning this product, I will only be exchanging it for another one. I'm giving it a second chance, as I may have just had a faulty speaker. The blue ray player is stylish and the gloss speakers look nice too. When I initially set it up I tried a CD-R first and it sounded great (as a side note with the cd I never went over 40 on the volume). Next, I tried my Braveheart DVD which was good but I wasn't fully impressed till I popped in Spiderman, I turned it up to 42 and it sounded wonderful and then the dialogue started and the speaker sounded tinny and hummed with each word spoke. It was only the center channel speaker so that's why I'm giving it another shot. From a technical stand point, the speaker level adjustment is my only real gripe with this, it would be nice to hear what you're adjusting while still watching or listening. Overall nice product.

Nothing but trouble from day one!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by just_peachy on January 19, 2010
Pros: Amazing picture and sound when it works--unfortunately in the 10 months that I have owned it it has been in the possession of Samsung getting repaired twice--I am currently waiting for it to come back.
Cons: Pretty much everything--slow loading, wont play certain BR movies others it will skip through and lock up, the case in extremely delicate if you dont want the piano black case to look like crud.

Summary: I have had the system for 10 months--in it's short life at our home it has had the 1 and only firmware upgrade....twice since the Samsung rep didnt look at the file history and sent it again when it stopped working, it was sent to CVE (Samsung's chop shop...I mean repair shop) where they lost it, found it, said they fixed it, sent it back only for us to realize that it still doesnt work--still makes grinding noises, freezes up in the middle of movies, refuses to play some movies--Told Samsung I didnt want to mess with it anymore but was told it had to be sent for repair twice before they would replacesent it so I sent it back to them at the beginning of January (I marked it this time to make sure I received MY player back and not a stray on the shelf)--much to my amazement CVE lost my player again and took them a week and a threat from me to call the Attorney General for them to find it...today. Then the rep today at Samsung told me today that IF they replaced it, they would replace it with a REFURBISHED UNIT--after I kindly (hahaha) said that wasnt an acceptable option because I purchased a NEW unit that is still under warranty, they WOULD be giving me a new unit or giving me my money back. I have talked to AT LEAST 14 people in the regular customer service and 5 people in the ECR Dept. (Executive Customer Relations) and each time they say they are going to resolve the problem and I am just sick and tired of dealing with this.....stick a fork in me, I AM DONE!!!!! In closing 5 words sum it up DO NOT BUY THIS PLAYER!
