The good: A 5.1 home theater system with built-in Blu-ray player; two HDMI inputs; outstanding sound quality for a home-theater-in-a-box system at this price range; Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, and Pandora streaming; built-in Wi-Fi; plays music, videos, and pictures off a connected USB drive or via network; 1GB onboard storage.
The bad: No wireless rear speakers; requires a dongle for iPod connectivity, rather than a sleeker built-in design; buttons on top of the player are inconvenient; last year's Samsung Blu-ray players had reliability issues.
The bottom line: The Samsung HT-C6500 packs outstanding sound quality, Blu-ray playback, and tons of features into an excellent home theater system, with only some design quirks holding it back.

unreliable product; extremely poor customer service
by lilrebels on September 16, 2010
Pros: I bought it to stream netflix and when it does work, I like the service. Fairly easy to setup and use
Cons: 1st unit had problems right out of the box. 2nd unit has issues EVERY time they issue another STUPID software upgrade. Netflix activation is "lost" and certain system settings are "lost". I have repeatedly told tech support and they won't/can't fix
Summary: DO NOT BUY ANY SAMSUNG product. They do not stand behind their products.

Samsung's quality and service are slipping

Summary: The unit I purchased came with 2 problems right out of the box. It "wobbled" on flat surfaces, with no apparent issues with the feet, leading me to believe the case was warped or twisted in some manner. There was no output from the control unit for the left front speaker. Switching speakers that worked in other positions verified that the problem was the ouput of the control unit, not the speaker wire or speaker. Samsung provides a speaker test in the setup which was very useful for checking that all speakers work and are connected to the correct output.
I called Samsung customer service and was sent a UPS label that required me to pay the freight charges.. The 2nd try resulted in my being sent the correct label, pre-paid shipping by Samsung..
A week later I received the "repaired" unit, except nothing had been repaired. It sitll wobbled and there was no output to the left front speaker. Their customer service Rep said I needed to return it again. I disagreed and asked that a new unit be sent to replace mine before I returned the defective unit.. She said it would need to be repaired 3 times without success before that could happen. She also asked if I'd accept a "comparable" unit in the event this is not repairable or if I insisted about the model I purchased. I can't imagine that most people want to be surprised by what they send to replace a new unit they purchased with obvious forethought and consideration of it's features.
I own a Samsung TV and computer Monitor. I've been pleased with both. But this experience has soured me to Samsung products.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

System going back

Pros: Liked the sound and picture quality. Good for the type of room we have available.
Cons: Frequent source changes

Never got the system to connect to the wireless router and yes, I too tried everything. It would connect if I ran a wired connection 75 feet from the router to the blu-ray player.
Might have worked longer on the wireless problem (though I did get to the level 3 tech support people), if the system didn't randomly change "source" at fairly frequent intervals. It wasn't possible to watch a complete movie without the disc tray opening at least twice during the movie. Never got through a TV episode without losing the cablebox as the source and having to reset.Should be a good product and I got a FANTASTIC price on it at Costco, but not useable.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: on the occasion when a blu-ray disc plays all the way thru, the picture is amazing, the sound is full bodied, even in a largish living room. most of the setting right out of the box were good sound levels. if you connect an ipod for video, it has to be connected to your TV via a composite cable, so you will have to connect via HDMI for te good video, and composite for the ipod. the internet connect via wireless for netflix and such? forget about it, its not going to happen. yes i changed my router setting to WPA and WPA2 encrytpion. yes i tried both manual and auto settings. i tried to disable the firewall for this device within my router settings, but the device wont allow it. asked samsung about it, they said call u-verse. download the firmware upgrade from samsung web site, loaded it on my little flash drive, nada. it didnt work. this unit is just painfully hard to use. oh and the remote doesnt work real well if the unit is in a cabinet behind a glass door. save some cash, get the panasonic

Pros: Easy set-up, HDMI

Summary: Well after I returned the first one for a out of the box defect (No sound) I have had the second one for over a month now, not all channles have the same sound quality (could be cable provider) video is great with the exception of streaming video is the worst as is the sound if it plays at all (good thing I have a xbox for streaming) I am overall very disipointed with this product as I have a Samsung LED TV which has been outstanding. Maybe time to drop the whole Home Theater in a box idea and build a real one.

Would be ok if around $200 cheaper
by cnetfanboy on July 21, 2011
Pros: Does what it says
Cons: Sound not crisp as I would expect for the money I paid. The internet worked for about 2 days - enough for me to know I didn't want to use this slow beast for that...then the internet stopped working. It changes channels every couple days - on its own.
Summary: Might be a great product in the $200 range...not impressed with the sound clarity. Bass is fuzzy. It locks up on media USB drives. I should have listened to ...

Deserves the lousy rating I gave it!
by nationaljustice on March 2, 2011
Pros: Sounded great for two days ... right up to the point it stopped working.
Cons: The third day of use brought flashing lights on the unit and an inoperative remote. Samsung said there's a known defect and that we could either ship it back (OUR expense!) for repairs (2-4 weeks) or return it for a refund to Wal-Mart.
Summary: I'm appalled that an outift like Samsung would knowingly allow a manufacturing defect to remain on shelves to the detriment of consumers. This nonsense is the reason I am ...

This nonsense is the reason I am compelled to trash a product and company on the internet. If they don't have the decency to respect a consumer's time and money, there are MANY competitors with fine products. NO MORE SAMSUNG ANYTHING FOR ME!

Excellent sound and picture for a sub $500 HTIB-C6900W
by MikeHudsonATL on February 12, 2011
Pros: Clear and crisp sound with a good bass thump - the clarity of sound better than most HTIBs. Never had signal loss to wireless rear. Streaming internet media works well. Bluray/upconverted DVD picture on par with PS3. Speakers are small but loud.
Cons: No manual front/rear/sub controls on remote. No eject button on remote. Streaming apps slower than PS3 (Netflix). Good disk load times but clumsier fast forward/rewind than PS3. Gloss black finish attracts finger prints. Menu access. 2 HDMI inputs.
Summary: See my review of the HT-C6900W (not Cnet rated but their review of the C6500 applies). The C6900W is exactly the same unit as the C6500, the only difference being ...
Summary: See my review of the HT-C6900W (not Cnet rated but their review of the C6500 applies). The C6900W is exactly the same unit as the C6500, the only difference being that the wireless rear module is included in the C6900W.
If you are interested in an affordable HTIB, these Samsungs (both C6500 and C6900W) should be in consideration. I was hesitant to purchase one after reading many of these negative user reviews here on Cnet and elsewhere but I pulled the trigger on the C6900W when I came across one at a great price. I just did not see any reliability, wifi connection, HDMI input and other issues stated by these user reviews. Everything functioned well out of the box and remains to do so after 2 months. Perhaps I was lucky or they fixed out the bugs for models produced later in 2010. Maybe the C6900W is just more reliable. Don't know.
There are some minor cons that detracted one star from my rating but the essentials, sound and picture quality, are top notch for an HTIB in this price range. Most of these negative user reviews are due to reliability and operating issues; little on performance. Please see Cnet's page of the Samsung HT-C6900W for my full review. -
Great, but to Fantastic
by Musicizlyfe on January 22, 2011
Pros: Good sound quality, good picture quality, compatibility with other Samsung products, easy to set-up, built in wi-fi, multiple source inputs, cool light display
Cons: Difficult to upgrade sometimes, slow to load Blu-ray (not terribly slow, though), annoying to have to switch sources when it automatically goes to aux instead of HDMI 1.

Summary: I like it, but my family hates it. Whenever im not home and it asks for an update, it is hard for non-tech people to understand what to do when it freezes. the netflix feature is one of my favorite parts, and it streams in HD for those movies/tv shows that are available in HD. Whenever you want to turn everything on, (i have a samsung tv as well), you turn on the theatre system, and it turns on the tv, but to turn it off, you turn off the tv to turn everything off. I really like it however, I'm the one who hooked it up, so i understand how it works. Other people in my home, no such luck. For one, Samsung's remotes look the same, so sometimes the wrong thing will turn on. So if you know what you're doing, and you don't really mind fussing with your tv as your daily brain teaser, then I greatly suggest this product.
