LAS VEGAS--Blu-ray home-theater-in-a-box systems are hardly unique anymore, but Samsung's flagship HT-D6730W is packed with features, including built-in Wi-Fi, wireless rear speakers, and two HDMI inputs.
The HT-D6730W is a 7.1 system with 1,330 watts of total power. Samsung is also offering a sound-processing mode called "3D Sound Plus"; we don't have many details on what that means yet, but we'll update this blog if we get more information.
The system's connectivity is highlighted by two HDMI inputs and it also features an iPod/iPhone dock. Samsung's press release indicates that it's a separate dock again this year, unlike the more convenient built-in docks offered by last year's LG and Panasonic systems.
The HT-D6730W's Blu-ray features are similar to other high-end Blu-ray players Samsung is showing at CES 2011. It's 3D compatible and also has built-in 2D-to-3D conversion processing. Of course, most 3D TVs we've reviewed last year can also convert 2D content to 3D, but it will provide buyers with another option for 2D-to-3D video processing.
The HT-D6730W also has built-in Wi-Fi and can access Samsung Apps, which opens up a wide variety of streaming media services, including Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, Pandora, Blockbuster, and Twitter. New for 2011 is Samsung's Smart Hub, which is a unified search feature that looks through all of the streaming media services for content and also to make viewing recommendations. Of course, that's what Google TV promises, too (and didn't quite deliver), so we're eager to see how Smart Hub works in practice. Its also DLNA-compliant, so you can stream your personal music, photos, and videos from a connected PC.
Samsung also has a new "1-foot connection" feature for Wi-Fi connectivity, which allows you to connect to your router without using a password if the device is within a foot of the router. One-foot connection only works with compatible Samsung routers, however.
Samsung says pricing will be announced closer to the release date, and right now there's no specific release date except "first half 2011."

Amazing Home Theater System!!
by M-Evans on January 14, 2012

+ Calibration was quick and accurate off by a foot or so
+ Samsung menu is easy to navigate
+ iPod base and connectivity
+ Price is very good for everything you getCons: - Remote control does not light up

Summary: I've Read the items specs, reviews, and comparisons before I purchased this item before I was moved just enough to throw away $700. (Throw away, not waste) I'm sure if your reading this you must know the basics. Its 1300W, 7.1 surround sound, with wifi, iPod, and online hub capabilities. Yea yea cool cool, my Samsung TV does the same thing minus the iPod function. I first opened the box amazed at how well packaged it was and a little skeptical that it could be setup so fast. Never the less, the item was up and running within 30 min. Its pretty simple, just big.
It's loud and very clear! I can tell you that right off the bat but I'm more interested in its sound qualities for when I want to have a nice surround sound experience in the comfort of my home. I don't really use 3D mode as I don't yet have a 3D TV. Vertical mode is just louder than all other modes. You hear all the small things as well as everything else through all the speakers. Aside from that you have Music, Movie, Stereo, Prologic II, and Matrix mode which all sound different.
Of course I only play with Vertical, movie and music mode so keep that in mind as well. Movie mode for movies has to be turned up so you can hear all the tiny voices, but when its time for an action sequence it get's a lot louder than necessary but sounds exactly like your at the movies. You can hear shell casing hit the ground and bounce around in the small rear wireless speakers very clearly. I'm Impressed simply by that really. The best experience though was playing Battlefield 3 with the system in Movie mode. The best gaming experience and test of this system I've ever had hands down.
You are in the center of everything. You hear planes, and helicopters taking off and moving from one corner of the room to the other. You can identify locations through the sound of footsteps, or whoever is giving commands at any point around you. Truly unbelievable. For what this system can do at its price point I am completely content. If there's any other system that can do more than but cost's more, than its purely over kill if you ask me. If you have the cash, and your looking for a similar experience this is the system to get!

Great if you can overlook all the glitches/defects.
by oneupcanuck on April 15, 2011
Pros: - Great sleek look w/ LED blue lights on the blu-ray unit and touch sensitive controls.
- Sound quality is extremely crisp, solid bass performance especially in movies and great mid-high range
- Many controls to customize speaker setup/sound levels.
- 2 HCons: - First unit I bought had defective front panel where the lights would not turn on for volume and the video input would switch at random times
- 2nd unit fixed lighting issue but front panel slightly loose and had many glitches where the input would changSummary: If you can get it to work, it's one of the best HTIB units on the market at the time of my purchase. Having the HDMI inputs is a ...
Summary: If you can get it to work, it's one of the best HTIB units on the market at the time of my purchase. Having the HDMI inputs is a critical feature that finally makes the system worth buying over a traditional home theatre setup where you must buy parts seperately. In movies it will fill the room with sound. It's really incredible how powerful the bass and rear speakers are for their size.

Unbelievable sound quality, especially on Blu Rays
by Aridog123 on December 28, 2011
Pros: -Sound quality. Crisp high end sound and powerful bass.
- Looks great, tallboy speakers look awesome on either side of the tv.
-Built in apps like Netflix and Pandora
-Tons of customizable settings
-Very easy set upCons: -My ONLY complaint is that the equipment is prone to attracting dust, fingerprints, and doghair. It's because of that nice glossy finish that makes it look so good!

Summary: This is an excellent buy for anyone looking to create a true home theatre experiene. I got a 55" Vizio LED LCD a few months ago and have been shopping for a surround sound system. I am blown away with this one. Was using the Pandora app and it pounds so hard I thought I was going to have the cops called for a noise complaint. The iPhone dock is great too. WON'T DISSAPOINT!!!

Theater surround sound quality ability to convert to 3D
by tabandit on October 12, 2011
Pros: Great theater quality surround sound with full blown sound effects.
Great 2D conversion to 3D when properly hooked up right.
Ability to listen to I-pod or I-phone in surround sound.

Summary: I think that the surround sound quality is excellent and I agree with every positive review that I have read. Since I have not read a review on the ability of this system to convert 2D to 3D, I will deal with that subject.
The sound system receiver has 1 HDMI output and 2 HDMI inputs. I ran the HDMI output to my 3D emitter which connects to my 3D TV. Then I ran my Sony 3D Bluray player which came with my 3D TV to one of the sound system receiver HDMI input and I connected a HDMI switch to the other HDMI input. Next thing that I did was to run my Sony Playstation 3 to one of the HDMI switch input and my satellite receiver to the other HDMI switch input by means of my Google revue.
In addition to high quality surround sound effects, I can now covert all of my satellite programs, all of my videos games, all internet videos, all DVDs, all Bluray DVDs, and all of my Sony and Samsung 3D Bluray apps (including Netflix TV/movies and Vudu movies) to 3D.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
