Summary: This Sony home theater package is very good, but lacks some important elements. First, since there are no coaxial or optical inputs, it is impossible to take advantage of 5.1 surround sound broadcast via the cable box. A check with Sony techs confirmed that 5.1 surround sound from broadcast TV is impossible. However, there is a Sound Field setting which takes stereo input and converts it to "Dolby Pro Logic II Movie" which mimics 5.1 surround sound. There are other settings to match other audio inputs.
The speaker setup is easy, but the speakers should have two mounting holes in the back to make more stable wall mountings.
The remote lacks a Zoom feature. A Universal remote would be more practical considering most setups require three or more remotes to fully operate the system.
The volume max's out when watching TV from a cable box, which makes this system good only for small-to-medium size rooms. I have it in my bedroom and it does a great job.
The automatic audio set-up works reasonably well, but one should manually check the speaker volumes [using the Test Tone] and speaker distances. I found one consistant error, which I corrected manually.
This is a new model and is worth the $270 I paid for it. Had the unit come with digital audio inputs, a universal remote and a Zoom feature, this would have been a perfect home theater package.

Summary: I bought this with high expectations with it being a sony but a week after buying it my cd drive had an error but that was easily fixed. The following week my cd changer jammed and I magically got it to work after 5 hours of different attempts. Another week after that it had an error which i used sony's online service to help me which was alot of help and the people were very nice. Now a month and a half after i bought this product, whenever i go to watch a movie, it will produce a very dark color to everything, so dark i can't see a characters face, for about 2 minutes, then for 10 seconds it will light up and go dark again, this cycle continues throughout the whole movie. I would not reccomend this product to anyone unless they enjoy when their electronics never work the way they want them to.

Summary: this player is nice great buy and easy to install and even has a good picture but the misleading thing is it wont play a dvd thats in hddvd format it will ony enhance a regular dvd i kept trying to play hddvd movies and it wouldnt play them after i called sony they said thats correct it only enhances reg dvd's to picture like high def very tricky marketing best buy even said it would play them when we purchased it i guess thats why good marketing can sell anything
