The good: Superslender soundbar home-theater system eliminates the need for an AV receiver; comes with a potent subwoofer; three HDMI inputs; supereasy setup.
The bad: Subwoofer-based connection jacks may require creative placement or cable runs; only supports four AV sources (plus Sony's proprietary DM Port accessories).
The bottom line: Sony's HT-CT100 soundbar/subwoofer audio system is a phenomenal value that sounds great with movies and music.
Big upgrade over TV Speaker. Surround effect minimal.
by bfarr on December 30, 2008
Pros: Relativeley low price. Lot's of HDMI connections. Good sound from bar and sub. Big upgrade of TV speaker
Cons: Surround effect is minimal. Subwoofer placement is limited and can be tricky depending on your setup. User manual is not great.

Summary: Overall I am pleased with the HTCT100. Sound quality is good and the sub adds some nice bass. I wanted a soundbar becuase my room is an odd shape and placing surround speakers wasn't going to be easy. While the soundbar is a big upgrade in both quality and power over the TV speaker, the surround effect is minimal but I hope to squeeze more out of it with some tweeking. I really didn't expect it to be great at surround given the reviews I read before purchase. I picked the Sony becuase of it's lower price compared to other units and it's four HDMI inputs. The setup is easy if you can place the sub close by the bar itself. The manual is not great so trial and error in using the unit is required. I kept my expectations low with the HTCT100 but it certainly has met or even exceeded them. I am happy with the HTCT100 given the price. If you are looking for great , emersive surround sound, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a big upgrade to your TV speakers for movies and games and want to be able to control HDMI devices from one box, the Sony is a good, inexpensive choice.Added a harmoney remote to my setup and it works great with the HTCT100. Still happy with the sound although surround effect is still minimal even with tweaking. I am not disappointed with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone looking for a big improvement over the TV speaker and an inexpensive way to control a few devices through one component.

No Volume - No Reason to purchase!!!!
by ergo_tu on November 29, 2008
Pros: None - The lack of volume defeats all other features in this unit.
Cons: Don't buy this unit unless you have the sharp hearing of an owl. This unit is a joke. I even went to the Sony Shop and the salesman complained about its lack of volume.
What a screaming joke - STAY AWAY FROM THIS UNIT IT STINKS

Great Soundbar, Excellent Price, Connectivity Galore
by nc4sc21 on January 26, 2010
Pros: 3HDMI's, 3 Opticals, 1 RCA, 1 Sony DM, Quick set-up, Nice Highs and Deep enough lows.
Cons: Remote sensor is on the bar, but read out is on the sub.

Summary: I have thoroughly enjoyed the added depth and richness of sound in the movies, music, and football games I've watched and listened to with the soundbar. At first, I was having difficulty with the optical connection to my DVD player. I later discovered that I needed to turn on the optical output. Sound was decent, but not very loud. Then I noticed I needed to turn on the Dolby Digital and DTS on the DVD player as well. Then I was blown away. So far I have very few complaints. The preset equalizers for sports, movies, music, and standard all suit their genre well. I also appreciate the readout, though a bit retro, much better than a system of blinking dots.
I was first in the market for an ipod docking radio, then thought for $100 more I could pick up a low end HT system. I am so glad I went this route.

Best sound for the price!

Summary: I bought a refurbished soundbar from sonystyle, was doubtful about the product's efficiency. when i hooked it up, it was stunning. the hookup is easy(USE ONLY HDMI cables). saves lot of space and wires. subwoofer is nice. I dont think going for a higher end model is advisable, if one is looking for a soundbar for small rooms. this is a perfect choice.
Great product for a low price.

Just what I was looking for!

Pros: Love the ease of setup and the sound is AWESOME without having to run speakers and wires all over the room. Perfect for our needs because we are typically in front of the screen anyway.
Cons: Wish the menus were on screen.

Good system and does not require a lot of wires
by chaplyn on September 10, 2009
Pros: No wires running all over the place
Cons: The system does not come with an HDMI cable, but no one seems to tell you this until you get home and realize it and then have to drive all the way back to the store to spend an additional $35.00 plus dollars for the cable

Summary: I have only had the system less than a week and it seems to be doing well. My wife who cannot normally tell the difference between the television speakers, but can with this system and really loves it and if she is happy with it I am happy with it. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but then again it's a Sony product
