Please Update Your Misleading Video

Pros: Reviews are hard to find, but the few that seem trustworthy uniformly give high praise for the HT-CT500 as a significant upgrade to the very highly regarded CT100 predecessor.

Cons: Hope it is sensational; it better be to justify the cost.

Summary: First of all my rating is meaningless since I don't have the 500 installed yet, so the five stars is an expression of my hopes since I could not submit this non-review review without filling in that field. I'm expecting delivery of the Sony HT-CT500 3.1 A/V Receiver-Sub-Woofer and SoundBar this Friday, July 24th. In the meantime, would you please remove/replace the misleading video that never mentions the subwoofer/A-V receiver, which is never seen nor heard (we are led to believe), yet it is the heart of the unit. I'll write a proper review (my first for CNET) once I have had the unit for a little while and have had an opportunity to put it through its paces. Thanks!

For under $500 you get a legit SRS effect that will have you convinced that there are invisible speakers behind you. The surround effects (movie, music, etc, via the GUI) do a good job at standing in for a ?real? equalizer.
This IS a home theater in a box, in spite of the meager impression from the CNET video. While the 500 does not have the most powerful nor the most sophisticated receiver section on the market, a 400 watt receiver it is, complete with a 30 pre-set AM-FM tuner section, and generous connectivity for the $ (3 HDMI in, 1 out, optical audio, component, composite and more ? all resulting in a signal that is virtually always significantly improved (and at least of equal importance, never degraded) via a trip through the 500?s upconverting processor technology.
The 500 is an excellent choice for spaces up to 25 x 40 feet or so, particularly where there is a need to limit the amount of speakers or wiring, and delivers real bang for the buck in more ways than one.
