- HP markets the Officejet H470wbt to the mobile business professional, but it chose aesthetics over performance. The sleek design and cost-effective cartridges give its rating a slight boost, but the degradation of print quality from the previous model is definitely a deal breaker.

The good: Relatively fast; low cost per page; sleek new color scheme.
The bad: Poor-quality prints; glitch-prone paper feeder; dSLR owners will miss the CompactFlash port.
The bottom line: HP markets the Officejet H470wbt to the mobile business professional, but it chose aesthetics over performance. The sleek design and cost-effective cartridges give its rating a slight boost, but the degradation of print quality from the previous model is definitely a deal breaker.

Okay, but a pain to set up for wireless networking.
by ClashBoredom on May 15, 2009
Pros: It's very portable, easy to configure for USB. The drivers for Vista 64 work great. The quality of printing is very nice and it's very fast over USB.
Cons: To set up over WIFI may require endless hours of tech support who insist the product is out of warranty. Wireless G is not supported even with their 802.11 b/g wireless printer adapter. You may have to change your PSK to something easier to hack.
Summary: The printer is great. However, it's easy to get paper to start loading crooked if it's ready to print and the paper isn't preloaded. The WIFI printer ...
Summary: The printer is great. However, it's easy to get paper to start loading crooked if it's ready to print and the paper isn't preloaded. The WIFI printer adapter accessory can be a pain to configure / install. I talked with over a dozen tech support people, all of who I had to pretty much argue with to get some support under my 1 year warrant from date of purchase. None of the support people were able to solve the issues. I spent hours on the phone with them while they jeapordised my security trying futile fixes that didn't do anything.
Suggestion #1...
If you buy an HP product, have someone who works at the store open the package so you can see the date on the serial number label... if it's been close to or over a year from when the manufactured it, don't buy it unless you are prepared to wait up to 72 hours while you prove you bought it recently should you have any issues with installing / configuring it.
I have always like HP products, and up to now I've not needed help installing any HP products, but going over wireless with this was the worst nightmare I've ever had with any electronic device.
I find it extremely unprofessional that they would label a wireless printer adaptor as being 802.11 b/g when G clearly is not supported as I had to lower the security of my router to use mixed mode as G only wasn't recognizing the printer over the network.
I find it extremely unprofessional that symbols like ^->~* and or a PSK of 20 characters does not allow it to save the settings to the wireless adapter. Especially when the dialog text says 8 to 165 characters long and any alphabetic, numerical, or symbols can be used.
And in the end, they blamed it on my router configuration... not the lack of protocol and standards they should have supported.
They lost a lot of credibility with me over this device.
To summarize, beautiful printing... poor WIFI support... poor customer service.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

CHEAP - do not buy HP!

Summary: After five years of wanting to go Office Space on this piece of you know what...I did. From day one this printer has been a headache. Printer will print half of a page then decide to not print the rest and just shoot out the paper. Also, will sometimes print the item that had previously printed out when trying to print a new item (gets stuck in the line even if correctly/successfully printed the first time). Even though there is an option to organize printing front to back or back to front it WILL ALWAYS print back to front no matter what setting is chosen. Also, paper doesn't feed correctly and will often get jammed or the edges will get damaged from trying to go through the printer unevenly. Printing quality is terrible and photos fade fast and come out poor. For the price of this printer (which is gawking), it is absolutely not worth it being just a printer that doesn't even work correctly. Wireless is a pain to set up and NEVER once worked for me. That being said, today it yet again malfunctioned when trying to print a photo and I proudly beat the bajeezus out of it Office Space style. It was cheaply made so it didn't take much. I will never buy from HP again.

Can you spell J.U.N.K?
by fisher6815 on February 26, 2011
Pros: The print quality was far better than my old iP90. Ink last longer too.
Cons: This printer is noisy and fragile. The print heads won't travel accross the length of the machine without geting stuck. After trying all of HP's troubleshooting techniques I finally said to hell with it and bought an iP100. Don't buy it!

A Real Disappointment
by bluemouse3 on January 19, 2010
Pros: Realtively small and portable
Cons: Papere jams far too often, software setup had a number of problems, print quality on simple B&W documents is just average at best

Summary: This was a great disappointment. It took several installs and reinstalls to get the software to work - the printer kept mysteriously showing up as disconnected. Then when I downloaded updates they sent the printer into disconnect again. Rather comically HP tech support suggested that I not use the updates as they have a llot of problems with the H470 and the updates. The print quality for a letter on very high quality paper is at best average. One has to constantly check the paper feed as the machine fails to pick up a sheet quite often. Machine is expensive and for this money you should get much better quality. I do not recommend this model.

fantastic printer for travel
by pilotdave on December 10, 2009
Pros: easy setup, small, pretty fast and good quality printing.
I bought the H470 with battery, and used an old Bluetooth (kensington dongle) to connect wirless. Works great! No need to buy HP's Bluetooth accessory.
Price from Newegg.com was $174.Cons: Was told I must remove ink cartridges prior to airline travel, or ink might leak. I do not plan on testing this theory
Summary: bottom line - GREAT

Poor print quality
by Onthego73 on October 14, 2009
Pros: Small, portable, works
Cons: double line printing, straight lines come out crooked, text randomly bold, blurred, double, et cetera
Summary: Save your money, this printer is crap, and HP has nothing on their website to help.

absolutely awful customer service
by Howard M on June 30, 2009
Pros: Prints OK when it works, which isn't often enough.
Cons: Cartridges leak when you take the printer on a plane. Printer failed twice, dealing with HP customer service is the worst experience I have ever encountered. Incompetent, lying, useless.
Summary: BUY ANYTHING BUT HP.
