The good: The Crucial m4 solid-state drive is competitively priced and offers fast performance. The drive supports SATA 6Gbps and works in all SATA-based storage applications.
The bad: The Crucial m4's performance could be better comparatively, and it doesn't come with a drive-bay converter to work with desktop computers.
The bottom line: So far, the Crucial m4 offers the best value among SSDs. Though it's not the fastest, it's by far the most affordable among its peers.
Pros: Affordable, easy to transfer data w/ transfer kit, computer starts up in less than 5 seconds
Cons: SSD's still relatively expensive for larger storage sizes

Summary: I was considering two routes to make my computer life less stressful due to slow performance. I was either going to sell my 2012 Dell 14z w/ i5 and 8gb RAM and upgrade to a high-end i7 processor. Or I was going to gamble that a SSD would speed up my computer like I was wanting.
I went with the Crucial m4 256GB solid state drive. I opted for the one that included the transfer kit. I literally clicked 2 or 3 buttons, waited an hour and a half (240GB of data to transfer), and I was ready for the hardware install. I watched a You Tube video for 2 minutes, took another 5 minutes to swap the hard drives, and started my computer. It now takes less than 5 seconds to start from being turned off completely. It used to take anywhere from 20 to 30 seconds and even then if I opened programs too quickly they would freeze and create even more headaches. I ran a speed test and I am getting faster read and write speeds than those advertised by Crucial.
A solid state drive is a must for anyone who doesn't leave their computer on all the time and hate waiting for start up. Or if you want programs to open quicker and be more stable. I can't say enough about how fast my computer runs now or how easy the Crucial transfer kit made the process.
Pros: Good price, 256GB for around $200. Great speed, even in a SATA II computer. Works with no problems so far. Recovery was a breeze. Snappy and responsive. Great product.
Cons: Have yet to see any cons, with the exception being my machine cannot take full advantage of it seeing as the '09 MacBook Pros are SATA II, not SATA III.
Description:The award-winning Crucial m4 SSD delivers powerful performance gains for SATA 6 Gb/s systems. Designed to empower your system, the Crucial m4 SSD offers faster application load times, faster boot times, and increased durability compared to a traditional hard drive. The results speak for themselves: blazing-fast sequential read speeds of up to 500 MB/s - for any file type. Built with advanced controller technology, Micron proprietary firmware and high-speed synchronous MLC NAND, the Crucial m4 SSD is engineered to deliver consistent, blazing-fast SSD performance. From the extensive research and development that led to its ultimate design, to the hours of testing and validation spent on each NAND component, to rigorous compatibility testing in the Crucial Performance Labs to ensure component functionality, the Crucial m4 SSD is built to last. There's a reason the Crucial m4 SSD has garnered numerous international awards since its launch - it does what it's supposed to do. No matter what kind of files you're working with on a Crucial SSD, you'll experience high speeds with no drop in performance. Unlike other SSDs on the market, Crucial SSDs treat all files the same, regardless of whether they're compressed or uncompressed. This is important because the files most people use everyday - videos, mp3s, advanced graphics files and zip files - are compressed files and thus unable to be compressed any further. While many SSDs on the market achieve faster speeds by using file compression, many of the most common file types can't be compressed, resulting in SSDs that often deliver drastically slower speeds than originally advertised. With the advanced technology of a Crucial SSD, however, you'll never have this problem!
