as paperweight or a doorstop this has my vote

Pros: Realy kewl with the cover off, inside the atx side window

Summary: A few years have already passed since my Deathstar, but recently 2 showed up while fixing pc's for close family members, like thanksgining at Aunt Bertha's who realy isn't any ones aunt nor actualy geneticly female. the mystic skill to swap out parts and install a os has drawn my extended family together.
anyhow after leaving word to have a new or differet drive dropped off I found that the Deathstar worked very nicely after removing it's cover, being carefull not to get fingerprints on the shiny thingy inside then sticking it inside the see through side on my atx case. it effectivly covers some of the horrid web of wires and pc cards I stuffed inside it gleefully before realizing that it was like having a see through door on the underwear drawer, that is in the living room at Aunt Beartha's on thanksgiving day, doing buffett duty holding the ambrosa, sweet potaoe with marshmellows, the cranberrys both ripple side and natural berry with stem, giblet gravey, well you know,
so I hafta give the good ole Deathstar extra points for hiding my pc guts. -
These drives are dropping like flies
Pros: Works well as a paperweight or doorstop. doubles as a weapon.
Cons: If it lasts longer than a year, then consider yourself ahead of most. I have had several of these drives- all of which failed within the first or second year. IBM will send a replacement, but guess what- SAME DRIVE. You would do well to stay away from

good........if they stayed working
Pros: mine were cheap
Cons: had two, both died with thi clicking sound, first one lasted a year, second one lasted days

Mission critical data? Look elsewhere.
Pros: Fast, when it's working.
Cons: Dies suddenly, with no warning. IBM utilities are useless. Truly not worth the heartburn it will cause you later.

Click of death
Pros: Aside from some bad sectors it worked for almost two years
Cons: I got the same clicking death of the hdd that many others have described. At least I got to record the sound to some mp3-files that I can sit and listen to now afterwards to remember my IBM Deskstar

had a bunch of 75GXP's all failed
Pros: Fast,ATA 100, 7200 RPM speed.Great when working
Cons: very non reliable, crash after a week or so of use, Scratching, grinding, clicking noises, DO NOT use for RAID arrays. I had a IBM deskstar 60GXP, and a couple 75GXP's, all failed to the scratch of death, DFT is no help, low level formatting only hides the

Summary: This is ridiculous... Fourt Drive sent back this year. I have 2 systems. Both run 2 drives each using them as a mirror raid (all 4 drives are 11 months old each). In all FOUR drives have crashed on me. I FINALLY saw some info about repeat failures on a site and did a search. I ended up here and saw that I was not alone. All I have to say is DO NOT BUY IBM DRIVES or you will regret it!!!!! I guess I will check out SEAGATE!

Summary: I have an Alienware which came w/ dual Deskstar 75GB drives. The first month I had it, one of the drives developed bad sectors. It failed the "smart" tests, and now, recently in a blaze of screeching and clicking, died. Unfortunately, I put too much trust in IBM and the quality of their drive and did not have the data backed up. Don't make the same mistake I did. All of your important work will be lost if you rely completely on these IBM drives (DTLA-307075). Lost all my work and trust....
