HUGE, big, noisy, did I mention HUGE?
by MrWareWolf on May 14, 2009
Pros: FAST. Even when saturated with I/O traffic for hours on end, these things keep chugging away. Barracuda & 32mb buffer; kind of says it all..
Cons: Noisy. Mine has always made a weird seek/re-seek sort of sound, but hasn't failed me yet. Worked like this from day one, so I have no complaints. Checked SMART drive stats to be sure, and it's all a-ok.
Summary: People reported there were issue's with certain models of this drive, and I checked into this as I integrated it into my system. I had a newer rev in ...

Summary: People reported there were issue's with certain models of this drive, and I checked into this as I integrated it into my system. I had a newer rev in their internal bios, than the problem models, so I had no issues. I plugged into a cheapie PCIe card I got for $15. I get same input and output rates as the older 500gb model I have, from the Barracuda family. I'm sold. These are great.

Astonishingly Horrible
by Zefram on January 15, 2009
Pros: It comes in a pretty box.
Cons: It fails and corrupts the data. The manufacturer's recovery software, for both windows and DOS, crashes. The web site offers no assistance and the "chat" technicians hang up on you.
Summary: Bought two drives, one in July 08 and the second in Dec 08. Bought the second because the first had a corrupted boot sector, and now the second has the ...

Summary: Bought two drives, one in July 08 and the second in Dec 08. Bought the second because the first had a corrupted boot sector, and now the second has the same issue less than a month after I purchased it. Tech support is shrugging their shoulders (after a 45 minute wait to speak with someone and another two hours on the phone) and Seagate's engineers deny that their software is broken even though it's a known issue on their web site forum for over a year and a half. I have now spent over two weeks of man hours trying to restore all of my data, because now the newly-minted drive is broken as well. I'm sticking with Western Digital's black series.

Not So Reliable Huge Internal Hard Drive
by peterdmar on July 10, 2010
Pros: Considering the huge size of this hard drive, it appears to be a good buy. Also, it's very quiet when in operation.
Cons: it's very unreliable, it accumulated 11 bad sections in one weeks time and is heading for failure. It was then RMA back to the retailer for a refund.
Summary: Because of these problems, I would stay clear of any 11th series Seagate hard drives. This hard drive has the latest firmware.

They have a problem, but keep cranking themout!
by vjmassive on February 17, 2010
Pros: I thought it was good value
Cons: Failed after 7 months and Seagate knew it had a high failure rate and still flooded the market. Evidence is here "http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1050374/seagate-barracudas-7200-11-failing" and all over their internal user bulletin boards.
Summary: I'll stick to Western Digital from now on!

75% failure rate on 4 drive RAID5, 3 failed in 3 months
by adascoli on December 27, 2009
Pros: Any pros are outweighed by an unacceptable failure rate.
Cons: *** WARNING - DO NOT BUY*** I was a huge fan of Seagate running a 4 drive RAID5 NAS for years. This time I went direct connect Intel Matrix Storage Manager RAID5 using 4 1.5TB drives. I had one drive fail each month for the past 3 months.
Summary: It does not matter what other product you buy. Never in 25+ years have I experienced or heard of a failure rate this high (even on a IT support desk, ...

Summary: I replaced my internal Hard Drive about a 2 months ago since my old WD Raptor died. The drive has transformed my Dell Precision PC with dual 3ghz Xeons. It boots up faster than anything I have ever seen. And its running in SATA mode, not SATA 2! On top of it, I can't hear the drive it is so quiet. I highly recommend it.
This is how I installed a 1.5 TB Seagate hard drive:

Planning to return this one and try Western Digital.
My mother supports SATA drives with 3 GB/s and has a working SATA Blue ray Dvd player.
