  Clicks incessantly and shuts off randomly...

  Pros: No pros whatsoever.

  Cons: Click of death. Turns off and back on randomly. COMPLETELY untrustworthy and a waste of money.

  Click of death problems after switching to China.

  Pros: Does not heat up much, speed is satisfactory, and price is very good.

  Cons: Recent unreliability issues, specifically the ones made in China.

  Summary: I used precisely 21 of these drives in the last couple years. The first bunch I bought were made in Thailand, still using them 24/7, with no indication of any problem at all. The more recent purchases are labeled "Product of China". Out of these 8 drives, 4 of them randomly clicks but still functional, though they're on their way out obviously. The last one I purchased does the "clicking" on every start-up consistently, and randomly clicks during usage, freezing the system sometimes temporarily. And it has been doing that right out of the box! I used to recommend Seagate drives to everybody for their reliability over the many years I've been associated with computers but now the trust is lost. I was shocked to see so many people with similar/same complaints, What'll happen if I go back for the warranty? It'll be replaced with the same drive, with same potential problems. I'll never feel safe using these again, new or not. I'm clearly done with Seagate as of this moment. I will use whatever I have till they die - obviously soon - and already switched to WD caviar Green / Samsung spinpoint combination right now. I'll never stick to one brand again, that's another lesson learned.

  Both Drives Failed

  Summary: Don't buy Western digital drives. They used to be solid reliable products but they are now junk.
  Cumbersome software that sleeps drive and is hard to remove. But the real problem is that the first drive failed with a defective USB port. You can't turn of the power saver feature if this port is not working. Then the replacement drive also failed with corrupted sectors and total data loss.

  Pros: none, Well they eliminated a choice of manufacturer so i don't have to think so much in the future.

  Cons: Click of Death. May not work right straight out of the box.

  Summary: Even on their own forums they acknowledge manufacturing defects, yet offer no solutions. Just sub diverge.
