if it seems too good to be true...

Pros: value per capacity, it is a cheap drive for the capacity since it came out and still keeps that adavantage
Cons: once you use it a while you'll start to notice a degradation in access speed, then it starts increasing it's operating temperature, and finally it starts failing.

Summary: I bought this drive for it's comparative cheap price and offered capacity, I figured the price difference would be mostly due to slower transfer rates, so for storing pictures and documents seemed a good option. Now with the drive failing after 10 minutes of starting added 2 more fans just because of the drive), it has become almost impossible, right now looking for some solution that would keep it online for at least the time needed to get my data out of it.

Had TWO of these crash in ONE WEEK!

May have been good at one time, not anymore

Pros: Quiet drive, none quieter. Appears rather fast despite the awful 19ms access rate.
Cons: Access time on my drive is 19ms, which is slower than any drive I've owned in five years. WD customer support is non-existent.

Summary: Was very impressed with the drive, especially that I couldn't hear it above my computer fans, until I started running tests on it. HD Tune and HD Tach report the access time as 19ms. The common access time on this drive is 13ms. Asked around and found four other people who've recently bought this drive have the same poor access time. Emailed WD over a week ago and received no reply. Emailed again a few days ago, same. May have been a good drive before but I suspect they've cheapened it up to cut costs and sacrificed quality.
