Pros: Its fast! It sports an access time roughly half that of traditional hard drives and it really shines in loading Windows, launching applications & loading levels in games. Runs fairly cool
Cons: The performance of the WD Raptor comes at a premium; the drives are usually small and cost much more than equally sized drives. Louder than your average hard drive.

Summary: If you want the fastest, wildest drive currently available, this is it. From my experience, the WD Raptor is an excellent addition to gaming systems and for hardware enthusiasts. But be forewarned unused/unwanted software and registry settings can quickly negate the performance of this drive. The WD Raptor is not a silver bullet to speed up ones system; a streamlined OS in addition to the Raptor can make for an incredibly fast & responsive system that will have your friends green with envy. If you’re considering the WD Raptor keep in mind, recently released SATAII drives have comparable performance to the Raptor. Though not as fast, these drives have respectable cost/size/performance characteristics that are worth a second look.
Summary: I had THREE in three years because they kept breaking. I've had Seagate drives that lasted 4 years alone. These can't even last one? Garbage.
And when they sent me the replacement drive last year (the third one) I couldn't get their original back to them within the 60 days so they charged me--WHICH I UNDERSTAND. I was okay with the fact that they charged me because of my tardiness. But if they do that they should also renew the warranty. They didn't.
So when the REFURBISHED drive that they CHARGED ME 98 dollars for crashed--like they all do--it was passed its warranty and I was screwed.
Description:Designed and manufactured to enterprise-class standards to provide enterprise reliability in high duty cycle environments. With a next-generation SATA interface, 1.5 Gb/s data transfer rate, native command queuing (NCQ), and 16 MB cache, these drives deliver optimum performance. RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER), a feature unique to WD, prevents drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives. Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) optimizes operation and performance when the drives are used in vibration-prone, multidrive systems such as rack-mounted servers or network storage. WD Raptor features FlexPower connector technology that accepts power from either industry standard or new SATA power supplies.
