The good: Norton 360 v2 includes more native support for the Firefox browser; enhanced backup options; enhanced PC Tune Up; works great on clean, new machines running Windows Vista.
The bad: Norton 360 v2 can be hard to install on legacy machines; places a gadget in Windows Vista without asking; requires personal information for access to a technical support section that can be confusing; costly to use.
The bottom line: A near-perfect all-in-one solution for brand new PCs, Norton 360 v2 may be hard to install and run on legacy machines. However, don't count on Symantec's time-consuming and expensive technical support for help.

Summary: Norton has a new business model. Charge under $100 for mediocre protection and then $99 to clean up the messes. What a great idea!! Renewed the 360 for @ $77. Got a virus DEC 2009 and paid $99 for removal. Have another virus and they want another $99. At this pace my cost of ownership this year will be $671. IM obviously shopping for something else. How does this get such great reveiws from CNET????

Old Machines beware
by Whoatever on January 27, 2010
Pros: I had Norton for years(even before 360)and never had a problem.
Cons: Apart from their legendary heavy application, if you ever have to reinstall Windows XP, Norton 360 will apparently install, but it just won't stay on. It "dissapears" and can't be reopened.
Summary: When came the time to install Norton after reinstalling Windows XP(by the way, it won't install unless you upgrade with SP2, which means going on the net without ...
Summary: When came the time to install Norton after reinstalling Windows XP(by the way, it won't install unless you upgrade with SP2, which means going on the net without any protection), everything seemed ok until I restarted. Then, no more Norton 360 on the taskbar. Tried to reopen. Nothing. Uninstalled/reinstalled a zillion times. Same thing. Formated/reinstalled XP with upgrades and tried Norton again. Nothing. Spent 4 hours in the middle of the night waiting for a Symantec technician who tried to fix it himself remotely(he must have been helping 10 people at once, because he was on and off the computer as I watched him do what I already did, plus some registry crap I didn't know about). At the end, when he thought it worked (he basically just reinstalled it), I asked him to restart the computer and watch, and that's when he realized it was more than he could handle, so he claimed it to be a virus and transfered me to the department that is trying to sell you "the big scan"(or should I say the big scam) for 139 USD.
So I said no and formated my machine again, reinstalled XP and installed the free Avast antivirus software , as our IT from work suggested (he hates Norton too)before I ever plug the ethernet cable to download those service pack upgrades again. Still, call me stupid, I did this only to be sure that I could install Norton again without a doubt for virus issues. So I went offline, uninstalled Avast and reinstalled Big Daddy, who managed to crap on my squeaky clean hands again. So guess what, I reinstalled Avast and now I'm going to post this blog all over the net telling honest people that they can loose money and countless hours if they dare not follow the Big Tech bandwagon.
So when CNET (which I love to read) says "Norton 360 v2 can be hard to install on legacy machines", I think they are just being polite. Because in my experience, it doesn't install at all. (by the way, I couldn't give less than 1 1/2 stars on the rating, somehow, so ignore this "overrated" rating). -
Customer service abysmal, product unstable.
by Zane_Clair on December 5, 2009
Pros: It's nice to be able to backup to Symantec, maintain your passwords in a secure place, and have many features automated.
Cons: The product does is not stable. The Norton task bar disappeared and tech support (India) took control of machine and crashed it attempting to rectify issue. Customer service? English not spoken here. Wait..........
Summary: The product is not stable nor intuitive although the features have good goals. I've used Norton for more than ten years but this is it--no customer service/support, or, ...

Same problem with Norton internet Security 2009.
by slancio on November 25, 2009
Pros: With no warning the product stopped working.
Cons: I was surpried that the Norton stopeed working completly when the subscription ran out. this is something new. In former versions, the product would continue to work, only you would not get updates. this is a serious CON, in more ways than one.
Summary: no more Norton... I'm looking for another solution.

Norton 360
by Darron2015 on October 13, 2009
Pros: Nothing !!!!!!!!I didn't get to use but 1/2 of the subscription because it was worthless.
Cons: It is worthless unless you want more money extorted from you just to do what you bought it for to begin with.

Summary: I would not own Norton 360 Again because they say you never get a virus. DON'T GET NORTON 360. I think they give you a virus so they can get an extra $99. to clean it out of your PC. .Avg Free Caught 499 threats after I uninstalled Norton 360 .Norton caught none of them. When they did catch one they wanted $99. to get it off my PC. It is worthless unless you want more money extorted from you just to do what I bought it for to begin with.

bottom line: it's ok
by toyboy360 on September 13, 2009
Pros: basic, works in background
Cons: It's process ccsvchst.exe spikes up and takes up ALOT of system resources. Tells you that you need to back stuff up then after you do it tells you to buy more space. Which is very annoying, because you always think you have some spyware, etc.

Defective Backup, Not Automatic
by Euphrosynus on August 25, 2009
Pros: It was easy to install on both of my home computers. Includes 3 installations.
Cons: 1. Defective and SLOW automatic backup when using the online backup even with a fast DSL connection.
2. Program is not automatic in doing scans unless the computer is left on all the time.Summary: 1. Totally worthless for backup online. The program is advertized fraudently as a backup solution. First of all the program is not careful to warn you when the amount of ...
Summary: 1. Totally worthless for backup online. The program is advertized fraudently as a backup solution. First of all the program is not careful to warn you when the amount of data selected, exceeds the online or disk destination... until the destination is full. Then it asks for more money to buy more storage. To try to delete mistakenly backed-up folders/files is futile. ONLY ONE FILE at a time can be deleted and confirmation of deletion can take many minutes over a fast DSL connection before another file can be deleted!!!!!
2. The scanning, cleanup, and backup tasks are NOT automatic with a laptop. When a scan is missed (the computer is off or asleep), it does not restart when the computer is turned on or when it is idle but rather a red warning sign is posted indicating a user action is required.
** In summery: why is it that free antivirus solutions, even backup solutions can be crafted better than an expensive ($89.00 + extra for more online storage) solution? Maybe it was not intended by Norton but I feel ripped off and as a result am switching back to my free antivirus solution that I should have never left thinking that I would have less hassle with a commercial product. -
Tech Support Crashed My Computer/No Refund
by ckington on August 25, 2009
Pros: I have always relied on Norton and thought it was great. This product was good to begin with. Then my computer encountered a virus.
Cons: My computer picked up a virus, which was not stopped by Norton. Six hours and 3 techs later my computer was restored to 2 months earlier and data lost. No refund because I had enabled the virus.
Summary: Don't waste your money. It didn't stop my virus and tech support only crashed my computer then restored it to a previous version (2 month earlier) with a ...

Offers intermediate security for home users
by dinpm on August 9, 2009
Pros: Contains alot of features like SONAR, and Pulse update technology that updates your virus definition the moment something new comes up. Nice user interface and the main page lets you see an overview of your system's security
Cons: Does not offer comprehensive virus detection or protection. In its test it failed to detect plenty of virus attacks. In my own test, it failed to detect a trojan injector in my Cheat Engine.
Summary: This program offered me a intermediate protection for like 1 month before i uninstalled it. Its virus heuristics are poor as it cant even detect something as basic as Trojan ...
Summary: This program offered me a intermediate protection for like 1 month before i uninstalled it. Its virus heuristics are poor as it cant even detect something as basic as Trojan injectors? Not worth the money I paid. Norton 2.0 also contains its new backup feature which I liked very much. It backup-ed my operating system into a small file size. I don't know how it did that? But it was pretty impressive. Another thing I liked about this program is that the installation was CLEAN, BASIC, FAST and the size of the installation was small too. The best part is, that Norton improved this version of it to be not so of a resource hog. You can try comparing it to it's predecessors of a Symantec product. Most of them uses alot of RAM. I wouldn't suggest using this program if you are looking for a good protection.
