- Description: If you're even considering getting a small-format controller keyboard for your rig, you have to check out the M-Audio KeyRig 49. With a KeyRig 49, you don't have to take the complete plunge of buying a more advanced and expensive controller that features a ton of knobs and sliders you may not really need. You don't even have to mess around with a power supply. It gets its juice straight from your computer's USB bus. What the KeyRig 49 has is a set of 49 excellent synth-action keys plus the standard keyboard controls, such as pitch and mod wheels, as well as octave up and down buttons.A keyboard controller won't do you much good without some virtual instruments to play with it. Luckily. M-Audio hooks you up with some killer virtual keys. GM-4 adds 128 awesome General MIDI instruments to your DAW. SP-1 drops grand pianos, classic electric pianos, a clavinet, and then some into your collection. Then there's the MS-2 Polyphonic Synthesizer for your old school pads, lead, basses, and any other clicks and whistles you want to create. Top it all off with the MB-3 Tone Wheel Organ, and you've got yourself a full-scale lineup of killer keys. If you haven't already figured it out, these synths alone would make the KeyRig 49 a sweet deal without the keyboard controller. Use them in standalone mode or with any DAW, and if you don't have a DAW yet, don't worry — the KeyRig 49 comes with Ableton Live Lite. So what are you waiting for?
