Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 710 Laser price range: $179.84

The good: Easy plug-and-play setup; nearly every button and key is customizable with included software; comfortable keyboard and highly responsive mouse; software works with all stripes of Windows, including Vista.
The bad: Easy to accidentally activate the quick-launch buttons along keyboard's edge; mouse may be too narrow for some users.
The bottom line: We like the highly customizable Logitech Cordless Desktop LX710 Laser, but we found its overly sensitive quick-launch buttons really annoying.

Great Functionality, User Friendly Features, Short Battery Life
by makeitpretty on August 30, 2007
Pros: Love the quick touch buttons and customizable function keys. The keyboard has a comfortable touch and user friendly features.
Cons: The battery life for the keyboard is exactly 30 days! No more, no less! I would have preferred a higher profile, but I have adjusted to the angles.

Summary: I use this as my work keyboard and I do large volumes of data entry daily. A comfortable keyboard is an absolute must for me. I have really enjoyed the customizable one touch buttons and absolutely love the Media Launch buttons. I like to listen to music and/or educational materials while working and I love being able to pause my materials with the flick of a finger when I receive a phone call and another flick and I've picked up right where I left off. The mouse is very comfortable; I am not a big fan of the monster mouse so the slim feel is perfect for me. I have one HUGE gripe; the battery life on the keyboard is ridiculous. I have logged my usage and regardless of my workload, I have to replace my keyboard batteries every 30 days. I am a big fan of sucking ever drop of juice out of my batteries, but once you get the warning on the keyboard batteries, you have less than 48 hours to change them. The mouse on the other hand will continue to function normally for as much as three weeks after the critical battery notice. All in all, I love this set. Accuracy and speed are imperative for my work and this does the trick. Just keep extra batteries on hand.

Summary: Used this with my labtop to replace the keyboard and after 4 years I continue to use it with my computer. I really like the feel of the keyboard but I have gone and replaced the mouse for something more powerful. Never any issues and one of the few pieces of hardware installed that i actually use the software that comes with it.

The legs in the back keep falling out.
The antenna is too delicate. I spent hours getting up & down to adjust it. the KB was only 8 ft away from the laptop & antenna. it would work & then stop, sometimes I had to reboot. . I elevated the laptop off teh floor & moved the USB cable. The antenna didn't move. Suddenly the KB works like a champ. A friend has the same problem, maybe it will fix his too. -

Summary: I have had the wireless keyboard and mouse set for two years now and it works pretty good. The programmable keys make it easier to access applications on your computer. The battery life is not that great, have to replace the battery on keyboard every other month or so. The mouse has a longer battery life and I like the warning that the software generates when battery life is low on either device. Once both the mouse and keyboard are connected wirelessly, they are good to go. I had to re-install Windows twice since having this set due to other malfunctions. The keyboard and mouse had a hard time re-connecting. After changing the batteries it would take about 10 minutes to get the keyboard and mouse to sync with the wireless connector. Other than that, once keyboard and mouse have a new start, they continue to function pretty good.

Great option for HTPC

Summary: Wanted a wireless keyboard/mouse for a new Vista Media Center setup - the LX710 is a good choice. Setup is pretty much automatic, and four programmable function keys = media center, netflix, hulu and youtube with one keystroke. Works fine at 15 feet. Keyboard would be a little flat for desktop use, but for this application that's not really an issue. Mouse works great. Build quality is excellent.

Useful programmable keys
by cr--2008 on September 13, 2008
Pros: The keyboard comes with numerous programmable keys that are very flexible (launch Word, URL, application, save, open file etc). The keys are fairly comfortable, none of the clacking or stickiness you get with cheap keyboards.
Cons: Even the higher legs on the keyboard leave it rather flat. Uses a fair amount of desk space. No light for caps on, although it does have a battery warning light. Comes with obligatory mouse that I'll never use, preferring a track ball.
Summary: Plenty of highly-flexible programmable function keys. Comfortable key touch. Too flat keyboard for my taste.

Good keynoard, OK mouse

The keyboard looks nice (and so does the mouse). The photo keys (zoom, 100%, rotate) are great.
The media keys are useful and work fine (I tried them with iTunes and Windows Media Player).
The mouse works great. It seems to be precise and works well on any surface I tried it on.
The wirelss range seems fine, although I haven't tried it from more than 4-5 feet away.
The wireless receiver is a small USB key, which remains hidden in the back of my computer which I like (unlike some other of the Logitech keyboard which have long USB wires and a receiver unit that must sit on your desk somewhere).
The software from Logitech to control they settings works fine.
I DIDN'T MIND:
There is no scroll-lock key on this keyboard (not something you are likely to miss anyway).
There is a small delay for the characters to appear on screen when typing. You will only notice it if you type very fast or if you start randomly pounding the keys).
I don't really see it since I don't type fast enough (eventhough I type using 4 fingers).
My kid (who plays video games) did not complain eventhough I saked him to specifically test this aspect in his fast shoot-em-up games. If you use games which involve multi-key firing, I suggest you try it out and see if it's OK for you. It certainly was for my son.
NEGATIVE:
I found that the zoom did not work with Photoshop Elements (it may work with Photoshop CS however, I haven't tried it). I did not find a way to reassign the keystorke using the Logitech SetPoint software that comes with the keyboard.
The 100% and rotate keys do work with Photoshop Elements.
The layout for the Delete and Insert keys is not standard. The Delete is bigger and the Insert has been moved to the row of keys on to the keyboard. The Home/End are also rearranged becuase of this.
This bothers me a little bit (I'm used to looking for the Insert/Home in the standard place), but not too much. I guess I'll adapt over time.
The extra buttoms on the mouse are placed in a position that makes them more difficult to use. I think they should have placed them better.
As mentioned in the CNET review, when moving the keyboard I sometimes hit accidentally the Photo or Media keys: it's not a big problem for me.
OVERALL:
If you can get this keyboard on sale, I think its great. -

Greatest keyboard that I've used

Summary: This is a really good keyboard. The thing that I like most about it is that it came with a USB extension. The tower of my computer is located in a cabinet with an opening in the back. The extension allowed the reciever to easily recieve the signals from the computer and mouse. When typing, the keyboard isn't noisy at all.

Summary: I orignally purchaed the another Logitech Keyboard set and was completely dissatisfied. I retured the unit the next day. I then purchased this model and I have to say that although the keyboard keys are sensitive, I welcome that. I also like the way the keys feel. Since I do not own a tower, and do not own any office furniture, I feel that this works very well for me.
The con is that the keyboard will not fit in my laptop case. Obviously, the Mouse will and that makes all the difference.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
