Product brief
Intro: The Dell Color Laser Printer 5110CN is a 40 ppm, color laser printer.Compared to other color lasers on the market, it is midpriced at around $1,280.This unit features 600dpi.
Noteworthy Features: Prints at 40 ppm speed. This is faster than the average laser printer on the market today, but is to be expected for a laser printer of this price. This printer supports color at a resolution of 600 dpi x 600 dpi. This printer can be plugged directly into a LAN, so it can serve as its own print server. This product also supports duplex printing, which allows you to print on both sides of a page in a single pass. The printer?s 400 MHz processor allows the printer to transform a complex document into its printed form faster, speeding up printing.
Weaker Features: This printer requires optional trays to achieve its 2150 sheets, which is 1500 more than its out-of the box capacity.
Suitability: Made for those who need high volume color printing. This printer can handle A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in) and legal (8.5 in x 14 in) documents.
Value: Overall, this laser printer's features seem a bit weak for its price, compared to most other lasers.

Summary: I have read many "posting" and comparison with other printers before purchasing this unit...It seem's to me that some people where more or less happy with the previous model 5100cn from dell, but this 5110cn performed flawlessly in my case. Printed 500 double sided (1000 sheets} 25% color including pictures in one session on high quality paper and the prints where very impressive from first to last. The ink cartridges where down to 85%. Had the same laser prints done at a local printer and the quality was the same, but my cost per prints 4 times cheaper, in all i'm very pleased with this unit and highly recommend it!

Summary: I have used this printer for about a month, here is the good: This Dell 5110cn is a good printer, not great, but good. It gets the job done fast! This is one of the cheapest color lasers on the market. The print quality is good, but I have seen much better with other models, mostly the Panasonic Workio. The Dell gets the job done very fast, and for the most part, very economically.
Now the bad: In one month I have sent about 12,000-14,000 prints with around 30-60% coverage, replaced the cartridges 3 times, and replaced the transfer and drum unit once. I?ve contacted Dell about this directly and they told me the specs for the printer are: 90,000 per month max for B&W. 45,000 max for color. The recommended ?normal use? for this printer is %5 of that 45,000. That get?s you 2250 normal use prints a month. If you want to push this printer to its limits?don?t. You WILL burn it up. If I send a larger run, say 400 copies of the same document in succession, the printer leaks either yellow or magenta on all pages. The only fix that Dell told me was to print in batches of 100 and let it cool down for 20 minutes and then print another 100. This has solved the problem, but it?s also a pain in the buttocks. The ?normal use? is not just for Dell, it?s for all printer specs.
If you are looking at this printer for doing over 10,000 prints a month, you might want to try something beefier. The print quality is nowhere near as good as the comparable HP and higher end Panasonic. For the money though, it is a really good buy, and all said, I would probably still buy it for my needs. Just be aware of what you are really getting.

Summary: I used to work for Epson as a Production Engineer for 8 years, now I?m an IT consultant for a large American IT outsourcing company here in the UK, so I like to think I know a bit about lasers. I also used to be involved in comparative tests between manufactures and endurance testing too.
Compared to my old C1900 Epson the speed is fantastic, especially the warm up and colour performance.
One reviewer quoted the device to be flimsy , ok I can understand that but all printers are built to a price but the basic print engine seems sturdy enough which is the really the important point.
Problems not really, it was shipped with a small crack in the case so I phoned Dell and received another the next day, which was great (I gained an additional set of toner).
Would I recommend it? Definitely yes!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Spent $900+ on supplies for toner, drum, + roller. Spent 2 hrs with customer support trying to remove the old drum + roller but to no avail. They apologized then said i have to spend another $500 for tech too come out. When i was told that i can return the supplies for refund so i can buy different printer which would be cheaper, they transfered the call to ordering dept to process the refund (they said no) and hung up on me. I've owned a lot of Dell stock for 12 years (mistake and lot of losses) but i've still been pretty loyal for our office and home with their laptops, desktops and then printers when they started producing those. But this is now just pathetic and not the company it used to be.

Finally...color laser that prints good photos!!

Summary: This printer beats out all the others combined. I tested a few, bought a HP Laserjet 3550 and my new Dell is the best. The color for my real estate photos look unbelievable! Not at the inkjet levels, but getting there. The speed that it prints my listing booklet is blazing..both sides! Well worth the money, the toner lasts an amazing 18,000 to 12,000 copies!!! Buy it! (DELL didn't pay me to say that)LOL!

VERY FAST!!! duplex network color printer
by Rich Park on September 11, 2007
Pros: FAST, duplex printing, easy hookup to wireless router for wireless printing
Cons: 30 second warmup calibration, some what loud, needed more memory, and very uglyl. May be a little too fast

Summary: This is a spectacularly fast printer. It may take a short while to calibrate and warm up (15-20 sec) but once it starts, look out. If I make a printing error, I have to run to the printer and hit the cancel button or kiss 20 pages good-bye. I can print a 45 page real estate contract and rush out the door in record time.
I am also quite happy with the color printing quality. I use the 5110cn for real estate flyers and property information sheets and the photos look good enough to market $200k to $600k homes. Please realize this printer will not equal the quality of any ink jet printer when it comes to photos. Text quality is excellent and photos are only acceptable. But the price per page and speed make this printer very worthy for my real estate needs.
When I bought this printer, I ordered it with the larger capacity cartridges. Don?t expect to get 8,000 to 10,000 pages out of these cartridges as 2% ink coverage per page is not a realistic figure for any printer. I have printed 6,000 documents so far and have fewer than 10% of the Black cartridge remaining.
The ink remaining feature for this printer is an only an estimate. After I printed a few hundred pages, the printer indicated 80% of the ink was remaining. Don?t let this bother you. This feature is not accurate and should be used only to help remind you to buy new cartridges or ink to refill the cartridges.
My first project with this printer was a color brochure with 12 high quality photos. I had some problems printing this large file. The Dell printer user forum told me to add 1 gig of inexpensive laptop memory to the printer and my problem should disappear. This solved the problem and I have not had a problem since.
I have been a HP user for the past 15 years and really like the HP printer software interface. Dell?s http printer interface takes some getting used to and can seem difficult. This printer has so many features in their interface that I have been forced to get help from the Dell printer forum. The Dell forum has helped me set up my printer on a wireless router, install ram and refill ink cartridges.
OK I better warn you this high speed printer makes noise when it prints, it is large and it is ugly. When you print a document a fan starts up and runs for 15 to 20 seconds. After the document prints, this fan continues to run for approximately 5 more minutes then stops. If you want quiet, pretty and petite look somewhere else. If you want a high speed beast with good quality printing and you want to save money (price per sheet) buy the 5110cn.
Good luck and happy printing -
The worst experience ever - DONT BUY THIS

Cons: cheapo, SLOW, SLOW, poor paper handling controls

We bought this to print flyers. When we changed toner it started having problems. Delll couldn't figure it out so they replaced it. BUT they told us the printer was not designed to print the same page multiple times. What is that? Ridiculous. There should be a disclaimer.
So, we sent our flyers out and wanted to just print the account exec's name and a half page flyer. Another problem. We had to use the multi purpose feeder (MPF) because the tray doesn't go down to half size.
More on MPF. We want to print different size sheets now ranging from half size to legal. To do this we have to go into the properties and change every time. What a drag. I have never seen a MPF like this. Even the cheapos have MPF that don't need that. The add'l controls are great, but the settings and access (half are in the printer itself) are lame.
SPEED. This print is SLOW. Do NOT believe their claims. The printer has to calibrate ever 25-50 pages. To print just our sales exec name on 500 flyers takes several hours!!
SPEED 2. The spooling for this printer is HORRENDOUS. I can print faster to a $100 HP printer than to this $1000 Dell printer.
Overall build. This thing is so flimsy. I can't imagine it lasting to long.
Well, I hope I can save people from wasting their money on this piece of junk.0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
