Great printer for the price
by hmelnick on May 8, 2011
Pros: Print quality is good; even photos on plain paper are acceptable. it's relatively quiet, relatively fast. Easy to set up (I used the USB connection, haven't gotten around to the WiFi setup.) The one-sheet tray works as expected.
Cons: No cons as far as I'm concerned, for my home usage.
Summary: All things are relative. I was using a Konica-Minolta 2400 color laser printer; I bought it because it was only $200. When printing, it sounds like a Sherman tank crossing ...

Summary: All things are relative. I was using a Konica-Minolta 2400 color laser printer; I bought it because it was only $200. When printing, it sounds like a Sherman tank crossing a railroad track; frequent paper jams; supposed to print envelopes but wouldn't; no separate input tray for envelopes or other paper; software glitches. I decided I would replace it when the black cartridge ran out.
OfficeMax had a special on the HP I couldn't resist. This HP printer costs what I paid for the KM, and OfficeMax gave me $50 for my old printer. The HP is far quieter (about the sound of a small electric fan), is just as fast as the KM, does everything I want, has an input slot for different paper or envelopes, and prints envelopes. I've had it only a day but so far I'm delighted.

Excellent Afforadable Color Laser, Retiring The Inkjets

Summary: Was up till the wee hours NOT setting up this printer, but, printing wirelessly from computers on the network and generally giving the CP 1525nw a printing workout / checkout. This printer is a keeper as I've already printed 100s of pages of text and graphics. These are instructions, configurations, reports, stored forms (notepad / graph paper, checklist, musical pages), ePrint setup reference pages, test photos, etc....
Prior to any software setup, I went through all of the menu options via the front panel buttons and printed out reports, forms, learned features and enhancements, etc..... and learned quite a bit about the printer even before cracking the User Manual (on included CD).
Set up was a breeze, the slight oversight is the fact that the factory sleep default value is 15mins. While waiting for my slower home internet connection during the WiFi set up process, the printer took a snooze and wasn't going to be woken up. This stopped the setup interaction between the computer and the printer when connected to the USB cable. I finally realized that the printer snoozed and thus stopped the setup process at 15%, so I hit a button the front panel and the rest of the setup went smoothly. So if you are setting up your printer for the first time, you may want to learn / scroll through the front panel menu and disable the sleep time until after setting the printer up completely.
This is an excellent color laser, especially at the price I paid, I'm so very happy to give up the majority of my color printing on my various inkjets........ No more running colors on papers while caught in the rain.....

After nearly 8 hours, this printer still does not work.
by mburlingame@swbell.net on January 6, 2012
Pros: None - doesn't work.
Cons: I spent 3 hrs of my time trying to get this printer installed & 4 1/2 hours on the phone w/ HP Tech sprt.I have a 3 yr old laptop w/ an upgraded Windows 7 32 bit OS. According to HP tech, this printer won't work with an upgraded version of Windows 7!
Summary: I was told I have to wait 2-3 weeks for a patch to be developed. This printer is going back to the store.

Good value printer but cant print photos
by mikellewin on October 18, 2011
Pros: Cheap laser printer could have been good value.
Cons: Photo's print dark - specifically done by the HP driver to make this printer unusable for printing realistic photos
Summary: Very high impact problem if you print anything except text and charts

Does a fine job when you set it up properly!

Cons: Setup documentation needs improvement, Photos darker than what is on the computer.

Summary: I bought this printer after careful review of other printers at my place of business and research online. I have personally replace more Non-HP color laser printers in the 10 years I have worked at my current company. Xerox, Lexmark and Canon just couldn't stand up to constant use. The current HP printer at work has damage to internal components but continues to run with only a couple hiccups. I like a tough printer.
To setup the printer as a stand alone for a home wireless printer requires you to setup the printer via a USB cable. Once done, all one has to do is load the driver from the CD on all the computers you want access to it.
Toner cartridges are reasonable in price for a color printer (<$70) and they almost last forever (750 pages for the supplied starter cartridges).

Summary: I bought this printer to replace my Canon inkjet that I had to continually buy ink for. HP was running a special on this for $150 which was right in my price range and it has proven itself to be a very good buy. The print speed is very good and the output for color documents is exceptional for my needs. Color photos are not as accurate as an inkjet, though.
Im not sure why the other reviewer here gave it one star and was rattling off some French consumer protection laws and then complaining that HP hadn't CALLED HIM BACK?? What? You have to be kidding!!! Take some initiative and spend a few minutes with Google. Yes, the setup and documentation are a bit quirky and it took longer than any printer setup should, but come on, it is not THAT complicated. All I had to do was Google the setup and found a website that documented the procedure much better than the HP disk. I would recommend doing the setup connected through USB rather than wireless.

An outstanding color laser printer at a great price!

Summary: Given the price and quality of this printer, I would say, it is pretty hard to beat. As an IT Consultant, I purchase, install and support a lot of printers, including enterprise level printers; this is a great printer for a small business, small workgroup or as a personal printer. As mentioned above, my only complaint, and a minor one at that, is it does not have auto-duplex. It does support manual duplex though, which I have done couple of times. Most of the documents I print are not apporopriate for duplex printing. I have a very muscular Canon AIO laser that does high-speed duplex priniting, so duplex prining not a requirement for my CP1525NW - which I use mostly for business correspondence, such as proposals.

This printer will not install as promised
by peter_dalton on January 23, 2011
Pros: Clear vivid colour print, but slow compared with CLJ 2500 series
Cons: The CD disk stops half-way through installation with no promised choice of connection. No manual on disk. There is no obvious route to wireless connection - only USB.
So far support has not been forthcoming since 23 Dec 2010 - it is now 22 Jan 2011.
Summary: The lack of support and unwillingness to give it is unsurpassed in my experience of HP machines.

Obtaining toner cartridges has been difficult - some suppliers (HP nominated) have no knowledge of them.
Colour printing is quite excellent but the failure to connect other than via USB and the lack of support make this a dead product for us. After all we purchased what we thought would be an office wireless printer but the problem is insoluble, and with no User Guide it has to go.
In France a vendor is bound by the law, amongst others Articles 1642 and 1648 of the Code Civil, in that
1 - The seller guarantees an object sold against hidden defaults in that object which render it unsuitable for the destined use, or reduce noticeably that use, such that the buyer would not otherwise have purchased kit, had he known about them.
2 - If material defects faults show themselves the buyer must bring them to the attention of the seller or may bring an action against the seller within 24 months of the discovery of the fault. Any associated guarantee to repair or replace with the same or an equivalent article or articles may run for a specified period .
This applies is our case and HP seems oblivious although we have notified them. It remains to decide what action to take. We hope for a support telephone call this week.
