Summary: This is a great printer for light duty use. As with the 1200 and 1300 series these are designed for low volume use. Far too many business's have adopted these types of low cost lasers as workgroup printers. Although the maintenance cycle is around 150-200k pages, the maintenance itself is cumbersome and the parts are not cheap.

Summary: I am a student who recently purchased this printer and am astonished with the poor reviews. It is not meant to be a small business printer it is meant for home usage and should be rated as such. I just converted from inkjet and am enjoying the cost savings and speed increase.

Great printer for the price!
by jpeckiii on July 16, 2006
Pros: High duty cycle, comes full FULL toner cartridge, Drum & Toner Intergrated
Cons: No actual trays, no straight thru path

Summary: Having just had a bad experience with a Brother HL-2040, this printer is a much better buy, although it was more expensive. The toner and drum are integrated units that are only around $70, much better than Brother's separate system with the drum being more than the cost of the printer! That means every time you replace the toner, you are also getting a new drum, keeping you away from poor print quality problems. With full built in cancel and go buttons on the panel, this is a better buy than the HP 1020, especially considering this model comes with a full toner cartridge and has a 3,000 higher pg/mnth higher duty cycle.

Don't buy it!!!
by luiscorreialopes on February 5, 2010
Pros: Worked well, with good quality printing, before Snow Leopard arrived.
Cons: HP have not updated the drivers for Snow Leopard. After several complaints, since November 2009, they told me to be patient. My machine now only prints odd-numbered pages and, after any printing, all the lights keep flashing until I switch it off.
Summary: I bought an HP LaserJet 1022 and the factory did not update the drivers properly, to work with Snow Leopard. I have not been able to use my printer, in ...
Summary: I bought an HP LaserJet 1022 and the factory did not update the drivers properly, to work with Snow Leopard. I have not been able to use my printer, in multiple pages, for almost 3 months and I don't know when I'll be able to. HP should be punished for this neglect.

Summary: This is the main printer at my workplace, a small historical society with seven employees. This printer is perfect for us. It's been in the office for close to 6 or 7 years and we've never had a problem with it. The only thing that could be better is if it printed color!

Great Printer, cheap to use, super on our home network
by avro105 on November 20, 2009
Pros: My Canon Pixma was costing a bundle in inkjet cartridges, so we went to the HP 1022 and use it on our home network with our 5 Macs.It has never let us down and very cost-effective. We do a lot of printing and a cartridge lasts about a year.
Cons: Lack of colour printing.

Do not use in networked office
by wmpierro on September 23, 2008
Pros: Nice printer for local connection only.
Cons: The HP software doesn't play nice with Microsoft on a TCP/IP network.
Summary: I would purchase this printer for a stand alone PC only. If you try to use it in a network setting it will give you nightmares.

Summary: I don't know what good this printer would be in an office environment, as it will not print a merged document without hitting the paper feed button between every page or envelope.
After going back and forth with HP, they finally admitted this limitation. If you specify the sections (s1 - s30) on merged letters it might work, but it will definitely not do merged envelopes.

Sets the install process back 10 years

Summary: The first step in the install is to take the CD out of the box and throw it away, and download the latest (320MB) software from the HP site. Next, pray that the printer will accept your USB cable - which only happens half the time. Other cables may work on everything else you own but for some reason this printer will refuse to work with them.
Finally, be prepared to go into device manager and reload the driver for USB Print Support, because the installer may still load the drivers for Win98.
After you've jumped thru all these hoops, it's a decent little printer with a fast warmup time. It also still includes a cover for the paper tray. By the way - what's the point in the foldup door on the paper tray? It's hardly a portable printer.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
