Fast Printer, poor overall value

Summary: Nice size and very fast printer for its cost. Toner is expensive $70 for 2500 sheets, about 3X the cost 5 years ago (3 cents a sheet vs 1 cent). Ths single sheet feeder is pure crap. The engineers must have NEVER tested it before releasing it. Took 15 attempts to get 5 sheets printed. Has 3 modes of loudness. Very loud while printing, Loud in idle mode, quiet in standby mode. As a reseller I have bought many HP laserjets over the years. This one flunks. If you buy a bigger model you will save in the long run due to the expensive toner that this one uses.

Fast but virtually unusable manual feed
Pros: Fast printing, small footprint, built-in double-sided printing
Cons: Virtually unusable manual feed function for envelopes, checks, etc. No pull out tray or snap-on manual feeder tray. At first, I thought it was left out of box until I checked users manual. If they had this, it would be a perfect small office printer.

This printer cannot print sheet music properly!

Summary: Attracted by good reviews, the automatic duplexer, small footprint, and price after rebate, I purchased this printer mainly for high quality printing of sheet music. It was disappointingly inadequate for this purpose. While text printing is good, printing music does not produce acceptable results and therefore makes this model unusable for the professional results required by my clients. The problem occurs where the vertical barlines cross the horizontal staff lines: a permanently fused toner smear frequently occurs at these points of intersection in a downward direction, opposite to the travel direction of the paper. It happens regardless of media quality, file type, or printer driver settings. On a whim I also tested printing an accounting-style box consisting of many horizontal and vertical lines, with the same unfortunate results. After an hour on the phone with customer support, the decision was made to return the printer for a replacement. The second unit was worse than the first one! While on the phone this second time (this time an hour and a half) I offered to email CS both the source file (PDF) and a scan file of an actual print showing the smearing symptoms. I was told that they could not receive email, which I felt not only further hampered CS from resolving the problem, but which I also find somewhat odd for this day and age. I have returned the second unit and will not be requesting a third. It is a shame that an otherwise excellent printer has to be flawed by the inability to adequately handle such a simple task as printing crossing lines cleanly - hardly a demanding graphic task for a current day mid-level laser printer!

Summary: yup, it's a good printer, but watch out if you're replacing an 1100 or 1200 - the 1320 has a relatively large amount of cooling fan noise. Even if you print a single page, the cooling fan _always_ runs for 3 minutes and sounds like a PC from ten years ago. Once the three minutes are up, it's silent. We have a lot of HP printers (old and new) and this is the only one that behaves this way - and HP have checked it and say it's normal. If you value quietness, audition this printer before you buy.

Good printer, manual feed doesn't work
Pros: Output was good when I could see it (see cons). Test and graphics look sharp, duplexer rocks. Speedy!
Cons: I had a defective unit that only printed on the right side of the page. Tried it all.. shifting the toner cartridge, messing with rollers, different power sockets. While talking to HP customer care they mentioned that the manual feed was a problem w/ shee

Summary: I just got this printer and one of the reasons I bought it was its ability to print double sided. Even though I have heard from other reviews that Mac OS X Tiger does not support duplex printing, I find that such info is incorrect. My printer is connected to Airport Express and I am able to print double sided. There is an option on layout which ask you whether you want to print single sided or double sided.
A very good investment, since printing double sided helps to reduce paper usage and storage.

Buy it for the automatic duplex printing.
by Gordon Bear on June 28, 2005
Pros: Prompt output, very fast, quiet, can purge a job at the touch of a button, and especially the automatic duplexing.
Cons: Feeding an envelope or a letterhead is a minor nuisance. Manual on disk, not booklet.Sony ICF-S79V Weather Band Shower Radio

Summary: I bought my 1320 after reading the 30 reviews posted here and am glad I went ahead with the purchase (which I made just before HP's $100 rebate expired on 6/25/05). I've had none of the problems that the others reported. My unit seems quiet at its loudest, does just fine in printing tables with lines crossing at right angles (admittedly not exactly sheet music, though), and properly handles envelopes and letterheads fed through the slot in the front. Perhaps others had the problems they reported because they used paper of a kind that suits this printer poorly. Still, I recommend the machine (enthusiastically!) only if you want to do extensive automatic duplexing and only occasionally need to print an envelope or anything else that must be fed into that poorly designed slot. Apart from the duplexing, I suspect the machine is undistinguished among its competitors.

At home great, at work not so good
Pros: From the test page I printed quality looks great. Duplexing for the price is great. Printer footprint is great. It has to be too good to be true.
Cons: Why am I sending this great printer back after 5 minutes of use? Because of its paper path, you can't run pre-printed checks through the main tray (or any other preprinted numerically controlled forms for that matter!) You could use the manual single sh

A sheer delight to use!
Pros: I have been using this printer for 6 weeks now, and it's been a sheer delight. It is beautifully compact, looks elegant, and most important of all it produces excellent printouts at very good speed. The price is also affordable. But that's not all: the ic
Cons: The only (minor) set-back is the lack of a fold-out tray to enable smooth manual feed. There is a slot at the front, through which paper is supposed to be sucked in, but my attempts resulted in a couple of "paper jam" errors. However, I can live with this

Manual Feed HORRIBLE
Pros: + HP (I've spent too much time and money evaluating products that don't offer HP's compatibility) + duplexing + quick printing (overall and first print) + small footprint
Cons: - poor replacement for the LaserJet 1300 - if you don't need the duplexing, this is an expensive printer - there is no manual feed tray! it's just a slot that you must (literally) manually feed sheet-by-sheet into; print more than one envelope? like to ha
