Summary: I bout this printer 2 years ago and its been fine, suddenly the print quality has gone down drastically, I've been advised I need a special maintenance kit for $280 after using the printer for just 1,200 prints. Be weary for costly maintenance and pricey toner.

Fast, economical running and dependable.

Pros: My trusty Laserjet III (15 years old and pages printed numbering well into the 6 digit range) finally gave up the ghost. I replaced it with the HP 2300 six months ago. The 2300 is installed on one computer, with a plain vanilla wired Ethernet router for
Cons: An area that may cause some users problems is the letter size vs legal size paper. To switch to legal, you have to remove the letter size paper, adjust the tray and insert the legal paper, then switch back when done. This is a minor inconvenience for me

Great printer for Mac

Pros: Fast printing, very clean text and graphics. Fits on my pull-out printer shelf. Fairly quiet. Nice control of printer settings from computer-based utility.
Cons: Background printing doubles the printing time, even if computer is not doing anything else.
