Great Laserprinter
by maxwell2006 on March 4, 2006

Summary: I have owned the Hp laserjet's 2,3,4,4v,3si,and the hp 4si, and this is the best laserprinter of the lot by far. I can't believe how off the mark the cnet review on this laserjet printer is, the review from pcmagazine is much more accurate.
A friend from work sells PC hardware as a side business and he has sold a few of these printers and his Customers have had NO problems. I mainly got this printer for the duplexer, and that works great. The print speed is fast even with graphics. You can add the network card to this printer if need arises. I will be adding more memory to this printer. I also like the backlit display on this printer, it is really readable. Be sure and use remanufactured toner cartridges as the OEM ones are overpriced. I paid $570 for thsi printer and I am real pleased with it.
I recomennd the purchase of this Laserjet printer.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Medium Duty Laser

Summary: • As before with it's predecessors the HP 2100, 2200, and 2300, the 2400 series provides a great medium duty laser printer at a good price. As usual the pricing is higher than it would be for a comparable competitors laser printer, but when considering the long run, the cost per page is lower, and so is the maintenance.
• The inclusion of an LCD screen is becoming standard on HP's mid-range printers, and does help with global settings and configuration.
• I've set up a few of these 2400 series, the only problem I have encountered is that all of them have been behind on the firmware code. This is simple enough to remedy through the driver

Summary: I run a small business and have used the HP LaserJet 2420d for two years. I've had absolutely no problems with it. The print quality is excellent, it's fast, the toner cartridge lasts a very long time. This printer has been perfectly reliable over two years of daily use.
IMHO, there are so many bad reviews for printers here on CNET, because those people who encounter problems with their printers are much more likely to post a review. On the other hand, people for whom the product worked perfectly don't necessarily feel compelled to post their positive rating. IMHO there may have been a thousand satisfied users for every 1 user who encountered a problem, but only the person who encountered a problem posted their low rating. So, the user ratings quite likely get skewed. -

Summary: This computer works very well for me because it is rugged and fast. I had and wore out a cheaper unit from Brother (a 5150d) that just wasn't up to the task. I needed a duplexing printer that would hold up, and so far, this one has done the job extremely well. The cartridge life is a lso much longer than the Brother's. It wasn't as cheap as some others, but it does the job. Highly recommended.

Couldn't have gotten a better printer..
by roatan4us on September 8, 2006

Summary: I have had this printer for about a month now in our non-profit office. I do a lot of printing of envelopes and that was a very important feature in deciding which printer to get. This one has the manual feed on the front (not on the back, like some models)behind a fall down door. I can stack up to 10-12 envelopes right there and off it goes.
The first job I did with it, was about 450 banquet A6 size envelopes, and not a single jam, or problem. I just sat there feeding it a stack of envelopes when needed.
This job would have taken me a good portion of the day with my old LaserJet 4. It was done in no time with this one. I only have one tray for papers, I think you can buy a second one as an option. Very easy to install.
The one thing that I print once in a while, that this one can not do, is large posters that are folded in half. Our other LaserJet 5 can do those, not this one. Another feature that I really like, is that it recogizes if you have a paper in the manual feed. On the old printer I had to tell the printer to take it from there, but on this one I can put a regular 8 1/2 x 11 in the manual feed, and it will take it from there automatically.
If I have to give a con, it would be that it is a bit loud. The idle/sleep is very quiet, just somewhat loud during printing. -
roller, gears & fuser problems - nothing but trouble. plus HP warranty sucks.

Pros: fast and quiet
Cons: manual feed problems, roller problems, gears broken, fuser needed replacing all within 1 year

Summary: We have two HP2420d printers, each in different offices. One office has had to replace their printer 3 times; 1st-replace rollers, paper jamming; 2nd-replace rollers, paper jamming; 3rd-broken gears, loud noise, could not use at all. The other office has had to replace their printer 2 times; 1st-roller problems, paper jamming & black marks on all prints (was not the toner); 2nd-fuser dead, squeky and grinding.
The "warranty" requires you to take it to an authorized dealer yourself and wait the 5-10 days for it to be fixed (free of cost-but do it yourself and you're without a printer the entire time). Or you can mail to HP at your own cost and at your own risk and they'll fix it and send it back in 15 days (again you're without a printer the entire time).
Because of these reasons I will never purchase HP products again, either at home or work. The customer service reps are terribly difficult to deal with and I've spent over 6 hours in 2 days on the telephone with them on the latest "warranty" issue with the dead fuser, still unresolved.
I would not recommend this printer to anyone. I would recommend an old HP 6P or 5P though, they were the last decent model HP made.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
