The good: Compact; lightning fast prints; overall good text quality; multipurpose input tray is convenient; low per-page costs; 24-7 tech support.
The bad: Encountered a major, reproducible text error; graphics quality needs improvement; expensive relative to some of the competition.
The bottom line: The HP P2015dn has the right features to make it a good fit for a small office or home office, but the competition offers a better printer for less money.

Summary: After doing my homework on which Laser Printer to buy for our 12 person office, I went with the P2015dn. The setup instructions on the CD are great. The HP Toolbox Utility is fantastic. Network setup was a breeze. I've been printing over 200 pages a day since I turned it on and it's performing better than I had hoped for. I'm happy with this purchase.

I'd rather eat glass.
by lex204 on March 7, 2012
Pros: It works well as a paperweight.
Cons: Even though it has a USB port, it doesn't work with the USB Port. The online drivers don't work with XP and the USB port. The website makes dealing with the DMV and IRS seem like a dream.

Summary: HP used to be a great company. Now they are demonstrating that they take their customers for suckers. Customers cannot get through to them and are treated arrogantly. Their website has bad links, missing information and wrong solutions. The printer is not plug and play. It is not recognized and the drivers/installers do not work. If you buy it, throw away all knives, razorblades and weapons in the house.

The Windows ME of Printers
by walterdog2 on January 29, 2011
Pros: I can't think of any.
Cons: All you have to do is search the web and you'll find legions of people complaining about the HP LaserJet P2015.
Summary: This printer in the Windows ME of printers. Enough said. Owner are resorting to baking, yes baking as in oven, to get their printers to work.

Unreliable, flimsy build

Summary: We bought these printers to substitute some HP 2200DN printers(which was a true workhorse, we still have 1 running after 8 years printing hundreds of pages a day). I guess HP build quality just isn't the same. The ethernet ports are flimsy and over time become loose, losing connection unless you actually tape the cable to the printer to hold it in a certain position. As the port is soldered to the printer it cannot be changed by buying a new card like on the old 2200, so we had to scrap these printers. We had paper trays fail as they would no longer hold the correct length (2 out of 3 printers). This printer is in no way of similar build quality to the old HP 2200, which is a major disgrace. Hp used to be my favourite printer company, but after these problems I will look around for other makes next time.

OK when it works but undependable
by anderthom on September 21, 2009
Pros: quality of printed pages is very good. speed of output is impressive.
Cons: This machine too often jams or just decides to stop working. One has to unplug, reboot, utter an hour's worth of incantations, etc. to get it to function. This happens weekly or more frequently and is extremely frustrating.
Summary: HP used to make solid, rugged, inexhaustible printers. Perhaps one day the quality and reliability will return.

Excellent printer, reliable, and a work horse
by ranron on September 16, 2009
Pros: Fast print, prints duplex without any hassles, text looks sharp, graphics aren't so bad either with enough RAM (have printed many gray-scale pictures), reliable, networking easy to configure with web utility, web utility can be password protected
Cons: Not the best value, needs more than 32MB of RAM to really do well, HP software package is abysmal, firmware can only be updated on Windows, paper tray at 250 sheets isn't that big, users can print font lists and test pages via web utility
Summary: I looked at some of these reviews and I don't think those bad ones do this printer any justice?

I've owned this printer for over 2 years. What do I have to say about it is it has been my only printer and it has printed tens of thousand of pages. The first task I did was purchase more RAM. Please don't buy the HP RAM, it's just over priced, go to those memory resellers online that have the form that helps you choose the right RAM. With 32MB, you practically can only print just text, and if you want graphics good luck because there will be a lot of compression to do (don't forget, laser printers need to load the entire page?or 2 for duplex?before it can be printed). Armed with a 256MB upgrade to 288MB (max) for around $50, this printer is very fast. Graphics don't really need compression and text certain has no issues. Great if you have many jobs queued up or you plan to print a full page picture or two. I'm not particularly happy about the small tray size, but I'm used to it. I print a lot, so 250 sheets gets burned through quickly. If you print a lot you don't have to buy the HP branded toner. Just be sure to get ones from reputable brands.
The network installation process is easy on a Mac if you have Bonjour enabled; if you have a Windows installation, just download the latest drives from the website, find the printer and install. They have Bonjour for Windows as well. No idea about Linux sorry.
Printer is quite durable; it get moved a lot, often sits on empty boxes and have fallen a few times while running and it still works like new.
I've used all types of paper and I have had may only a couple mispicks; a quick cleaning with some rubbing alcohol solved that issue.
I do occasionally miss color as you can get a number of decent color laser printers at this price range. The only issue those are not single pass for color (meaning it's doesn't pass all the colors at once, but passes each color one at a time (which is why color takes 4x as long as B/W). If you want single pass, you're looking at paying a bit more. This printer is strictly B/W, so that's not something you need to worry about here.
Overall, I'd say whatever I spent on this thing when it came out was worth it (I don't recall anymore). I do think it may be a bit old now, but if you're looking for a quality printer this is a good choice.
/tl;dr/ Upgrade RAM with 256MB stick to 288MB (Buy RAM from third-party), just buy non-HP toner if you print a lot, printer is durable and hard working, I'm satisfied with it. -
Steer Clear - in fact, run like heck
by jomearajr on August 19, 2009
Pros: Good & uniform print quality, when it works.
Cons: This is a shoddy product. It never worked totally reliably. It stopped working altogether after 18 months. The problem is well documented on HP's own web site threads, but the company does not stand behind it.
Summary: Poorly engineered. The front door was never snug, and when the door would vibrate the printer would show a paper jam. Fixed by taping the door tightly shut.

The unit took about 50% more toner than advertised, which is mainly an annoyance.
After about 18 months and 25,000 copies (less than 2000 per month) the unit began to go off line, requiring a power cycle to bring it back. This went on for a month or so, and we found an thread on the HP site that listed this as a common fault, fixed by installing a new ($80) formatter board. HP will not offer assistance if the unit is out of warranty.
Then the unit turned into a brick (will never go online).
I install several printers each year, and it will be a long time before I recommend another HP printer to a client. I am plenty embarassed at this client, a small not-for-profit which can't afford shoddy work tools. -
Recurring Error
by jvtran222 on July 6, 2009
Pros: Great desk printer, fast prints, good size

Summary: I really liked this machine as it sits perfectly atop my desk and prints faster than our bulky corporate sized company machine. It was perfect and convenient for my uses. After a little over a year (HP only warranties for a year), the machine started getting error lights. I thought it was the toner initially so replaced it but the errors didn't stop. It stopped picking up print feeds from my computer altogether. I'd power it off and on, and I'd be able to print a few pages before it gives up again. After much research, it seems that most owners of this machine encountered the same problem - the formatting board would need to be replaced.
HP also discontinued this unit and does not sell this part anymore, so I'd essentially have to buy it from a 3rd party at a marked up price or purchase it refurbished. This unit is not worth all the headaches it's causing. Don't buy, it'll seem like an amazing machine initially but in the end, you'll pay for it. -
Not well made; eats toner; paper won't feed.
by EvaRoy on December 14, 2008
Pros: Easy setup even though Windows XP consistently gives me the message "illegal hardware".
Cons: Toner life; pickup rollers: main paper tray doesn't work; manual paper tray no longer accepts envelopes.

Summary: After years of using HP printers with great success, the reliability of this model and the one I owned before this have been very disappointing and certainly not up the HP's previous quality. Am currently looking for a high-quality photo printer and will NOT buy an HP. And it looks like I will need a new B&W laser printer for my business before the end of 2008. This printer is less than two years old. The main paper tray printer roller stopped working when the printer was barely one year old. Certainly not worth the price.
