Product brief
Intro: The Xerox Phaser 6130/N is a 16 ppm, color laser printer.Compared to other color lasers on the market, it is very inexpensive at around $445.This unit has a maximum resolution of 600dpi.
Noteworthy Features: This printer supports color at a resolution of 600 dpi x 600 dpi.Ethernet capability allows this printer to be more easily integrated into a LAN network, without the need for a host server. The printer?s 333 MHz processor allows the printer to transform a complex document into its printed form faster, speeding up printing.
Weaker Features: Only prints at 16 ppm speed, which is slower than some similarly priced lasers. For example, the Xerox Phaser 6280N, at around $490, prints at 31 ppm speed. This unit does not support duplex printing.
Suitability: A color laser printer, suited for printing images, presentations, as well as documents in color. This printer can handle A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in) and legal (8.5 in x 14 in) documents.
Value: In general, this laser printer's features are as expected for this price.

Summary: I'm in real estate and just got this...my broker started charging for color copies. I wanted laser...afraid of the cost of ink jet cartriges. So far, this thing is great. Not nearly as heavy as I expected, and very very quiet. A full replacement of toner carts will cost more than the entire printer...will have to wait till it runs out to decide if I buy them!

Good Printer for the Price. Better Value than others in same catagory.
by demaxX on February 3, 2008
Pros: Prints are clean & Crisp. Photos may look better on an inkjet. 1yr on-site-warranty. Very nice small footprint. Much lighter and not noicy as imagined or purported by some people.
Cons: Not for Home use if you do litlle printing. Spits out start up pages when you turn on the printer. Uses 80Watts/hr in standby.
Summary: This is a truly a very well made printer, solid and compact. It's networking ready so you can place it in the corner of a room. The instructions are ...
Summary: This is a truly a very well made printer, solid and compact. It's networking ready so you can place it in the corner of a room. The instructions are Wrong - it says to use a crossover cable to connect to a Hub/Router. Not so - the correct method is to use a Straight Cable to a Hub/Router, and a Crossover if connected Printer to PC. (Funny it printed using both type of cables with a Xerox service man watching the set-up.)
It spit out 78 setup pages. Each time you do anything to change the printing it spits out 2 pages automatically. A BIG waste of paper and toner. It will also spit out 2 pages every time you turn the printer "off" and "on" again. So you will have to decide yourself whether its worth Toner and paper or 80 Watts/hr of standby electricity.
The IS (CWIS) setup page needs correction. Do not use the List giving the IP of computers allowed to use the printer. It will give an error in the OS Control Panel. After Xerox Service removed the list it printed nicely. (He said he reported that error to Xerox, its the number 1 problem in setup.)
A pricey Wireless Network Adapter is available. The cost of All Toner Cartridges exceed the cost of the printer at $279.99 if bought at Costco.
One nice thing it will continue printing in BLACK when any color toner runs out, contrary to a HP that will quit working when ANY cartridge/toner is empty or out of date.
There appears not to be much do-it-yourself tech support web pages available as with HP.
I was able to fix a 15 year old HP Laser, and doubt the same will be true for this Xerox.
The Phaser 6130 uses basically the same components as the Phaser 6120 with the exception that the Printer Cartridges are unique to the 6130.
The Series runs in this order: 6120 then 6110, 6115 then 6130, for future parts requirements.
All said I feel this printer is an exceptional value for a small business. Black 4,500 pages, and color 1,500 pages. The Drum Film Unit 20,000 pages Black, & 10,000 Color.
(If you have on-site-warranty, as I had, the service man shows up the next day, and as in my case he came the same day.)
The Phaser 6130 weights about as much as my HP 6110 All-in-one and the noise level is equal to my HP Lazer (Black only) and the HP All-in-one, as can be expected from most all printers and lower cost printers).
I didn't give this printer a "10" until there is an option to quit wasting paper and toner on "turn-on" and "on-setup". Therefore I don't feel this printer is as GREEN as made out to be. All Printers going back 10 years go into sleep mode when not used, so Xerox did nothing special to save energy but rather made the Phaser "Un-Green".1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Stuck with their wireless server
by Hawkflyer on August 27, 2009
Pros: Great price. Nice prints.
Cons: Terrible setup documentation. Forget about wireless configuration to a wireless print server unless you purchase their Xerox wireless print server for several hundred extra of your money.
Summary: If you want a printer that plugs into one computer only and makes good prints then I would say that you would do well with this unit.

Good, solid Printer, but slow...
by willbenner3 on October 17, 2008
Pros: Great Print Quality on black text and color graphics
Networked easily
Cheap to operateCons: Slow, definitely not "fast" like the Xerox website says...
Summary: Got a few days ago ($207 from vendor on amazon.com). Easily connected to my Linksys wireless router. Now anyone connected to the network can use the printer (even wireless...). ...
Summary: Got a few days ago ($207 from vendor on amazon.com). Easily connected to my Linksys wireless router. Now anyone connected to the network can use the printer (even wireless...). Great print quality, especially black text and color graphics. Pictures are above average for a laser printer. If you want quick print speeds, this is not the printer for you. It is a little on the slow side, but not bad if your print demand is low. Works great for my home office. Nice Printer! No problems yet!

A decent true PostScript printer with ok color and terrible manual feed
by cheshiredave on August 18, 2008
Pros: True PostScript Level 3, good value for price, good processing speed
Cons: Color is merely ok, price per page could be better, manual feed is terrible

Summary: I had been searching for an affordable true PostScript laser for quite some time. Costco had this printer for a really great price, and I went with it. Generally I like the printer very much; it's truer with some colors more than others, though I haven't played too much with different color options to try to get the best results. Where it really falls down is on the manual feed, which looks like it's pulling the paper or envelope straight, but when it comes out, the printing is crooked -- to the point where it's difficult to use for business purposes. If you want it for professional reasons and will be printing a lot of things with the manual feed, think twice before buying this model.

Wow ... very impressive
by stevebisel on February 3, 2008
Pros: easy setup, relatively small size, price, excellent quality output
Cons: print side down output, small capacity paper tray

Summary: I got this at Costco.com for $279. The setup went very easy. I installed both the PostScript and PCL drivers. The output is spectacular. I am not very familiar with printing photos to other color laser printers, but when I print photos to this one I used the "enhanced photo" properties. The print of a page takes longer than text ... like maybe 45 seconds or so, but the quality of the photo reproduction is much higher than I anticipated. Text quality is like any other laser printer ... very good. Graphic are reproduced very well. Hopefully this printer will hold up in my home-office environment.

Great Printer at a Great Price
by MRW1 on January 27, 2008
Pros: Easy setup, small footprint, quick nd quiet

Summary: I too ordered this from Costco after looking at Dell 1320c, HP 1600, 2605n, and 3600. For the price ($279 delivered) I could not go wrong. The operating cost is equal to, or better than all the compared printers. Toner avilability is not an issue. The printer arrived with full capacity cartridges, and from the time I took it out of the box to running the first page was 10 - 15 minutes. No fuss, no muss. The unit is 15 sq in, so footprint is reasonable, runs quiet, and has good print speed. The control panel displays english prompts, rather than having to figure out a complex LED scheme to troubleshoot issues. The construction is like a tank, not flimsy like the HP units. Overall, an excellent buy for personal and small business use.
