The good: The Dell UltraSharp U2713HM delivers excellent performance across the board, includes a huge array of customization options, and has great ergonomic support. USB 3.0 is a nice bonus.
The bad: There's a slight green tint problem when watching movies, and $800 is a lot to pay for a monitor, no matter what's included.
The bottom line: The Dell UltraSharp U2713HM is an excellent monitor that will satisfy both the performance snob and the features diva alike.

Good Monitor, Hope it lasts as long as my Previous Dell
by E-Ramirez on April 1, 2013
Pros: Bright crisp display with excellent color saturation.
Text quality is excellent, even in the smallest fonts, was really pleasantly surprised.
Solid Stand; tilt, swivel, Height, orientation adjustments.
Dell 3 year premium panel warranty.Cons: Does suffer from IPS Glare which is more noticeable in dark rooms, but effect was minimal.

Summary: There's been much talk about light bleed issues, with people popping up images of their screens taken in a dark room. Note: All panels will exhibit a little light bleed around the edges when viewed under very dark conditions, it's rare indeed to find Panels or TV's or even iPads etc that have no light bleed somewhere. We have 3 iPads here and all 3 have a little light bleed even my new retina ipad... just visible in v/dark room.
Fortunately the Panel I received suffered from no noticable light bleed at all, note these panels do suffer from what is known as IPS pixel glare near the edges when you move away from the optimum viewing angle, though in fairness, even this is only visible under dark ambient light. For normal conditions there is no issue at all.
The monitor also had ZERO bad pixels, so maybe I was one of the lucky one's, I had a Dell 2407-HC Ultra sharp which is still going strong after 5yrs+ and is still perfect with no bad pixels, so I just hope this new 27" one serves me as well.
The 2713HM monitor is quite a bit slimmer than the 2407 and is not such a big jump in size as one might imagine, this is due to the fact the older 2407 has a 16x10 aspect ration while this 2713 uses 16x9.
I did notice that whites looks noticeably whiter, than on the older panel, and viewing text is pretty sharp, so those closer pixels do make a difference, it's almost impossible to make the pixels out on the screen.
I also added the AY511 Sound bar mainly because the previous 510 sound bar I was using was in silver and ideally you need a black one with this monitor, I also suspect that the current 510 soundbars probably protrude at the front due to the thinner panel when they are fitted. I say this because the new AY511 soundbar would have looked better maybe if it was recessed a little, when its fitted it just comes flush with the front of the monitor, AIS I suspect the 510's may stick out a little, unless they have made them thinner since I last purchased my old one 5Yrs ago.
The 511 soundbar sound wise is much better than the 510 as you would expect, using touch controls which work okay, but it does NOT retain it's settings if the unit gets powered off from the mains, it retains them in stanby ect but not if completely dis-connected. Can I recommend the sound bar, well yes I can if only because it looks far better than the 510, and other than weak bass the sound quality is not bad at all.
So back to the Monitor itself, assuming you can get a decent one, then this monitor is amazing, it delivers in abundance, it's pretty cheap for what you get, this one cost me $100 less than I paid for the 24" 5yrs ago. It certainly runs much cooler, as even after several hours use it's barely warm on the top, and I'm also pleased to add that on this model the USB 3 ports actually work properly, as the USB2 ports on the 2407 never really worked properly, but no issues at all this time round.

Good Monitor at bargain price, with superb warranty, what more can you ask for.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Glad I chose this over the Apple monitor

Pros: Beautiful display.
Full-featured and versatile.
When it's on sale, it's a great value.Cons: The base is hollow.

I was surprised that it arrived so quickly. I only ordered the monitor on Tuesday and it arrived in two (business) days! Dell had estimated May 13 delivery date; Christ, that's overly conservative!
After I unpacked the monitor and set it up on my desk, I connected the Mac mini to it with a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable ($20 at Canada Computers). But for some reason, the monitor did not come on. No joy for me—I started to panic.
I connected the monitor to the Dell PC (using DVI) and it worked fine. I did a little digging on the Internet and eventually figured out that I had to tell the U2713HM to use DisplayPort via the monitor's menu.
Then I wanted to try swiveling the monitor and adjusting its height. I couldn't figure out how to do it. After watching the CNET review video, I realized I had to **push** the monitor down from its top height. (And, of course, you have to pull the monitor up from its low height.) There is no latch or button, which is what I was looking for. It's actually quite elegant.
To swivel, you twist the supporting column overcoming the stiff resistance. You can also twist the monitor itself, but I worry about excessive torque damaging the monitor. (I'm rather OCD that way.)
Initial examination shows no hot or dead pixels. For the next 30 days, I will monitor (no pun intended) the situation. If I return the monitor within 30 days, they give me a brand new one. After 30 days, they give me a refurbished unit.
Despite user reviews complaining about the "sparkly" matte finish on the Dell monitor, I don't see any issue with it. The display is gorgeous!!! And it really cuts out the glare from my room's floor lamp. If I had purchased the Apple Thunderbolt/Cinema Display, there is no doubt that the glare would be bothersome. Users who complain about the matte finish are really quite OCD.
The U2713HM has its own USB hub giving me 4 additional USB ports. This is extremely well-appreciated, as I've used up all 4 USB ports on my Mac mini.
So based on my preliminary review of the Dell U2713HM, I highly, highly recommend this monitor. It is the best $600 I've spent in over a decade! Great value. Excellent quality. The monitor comes fully color calibrated from the factory. The display is exquisitely beautiful. -
Great specs, poorly manufactured.
by stanoh on March 25, 2013
Pros: This is a great monitor ONLY WHEN it's working as it should. Great color, sharp pixels, doesn't have the grainy coating that older 27" DELL monitor had, lots of input options, great value etc, BUT..
Cons: From my experience, it's really poorly manufactured! I had 2 replacements within 9 months, and third one is now on the way.

Summary: The first one, after about 6 months of use, the panel inside the monitor starts to slide down, and there was a clear gap at the top and some pixels on the bottom became hidden behind the monitor's frame. Dell folks replaced it with a "new" refurbished monitor, as in warranty (I live in HK). When I turned on the replacement, I immediately noticed that it had the same problem. The panel inside was off-centered and tilted a bit with some pixels on the bottom not visible and a large gap at the top. Basically the replacement came pre-dropped. Dell gave me another replacement - again a refurbished one. The third one started to make a high pitch "electric current" noise after a couple of months, which started only when the monitor was displaying dark things on white background - word docs, most web pages, and it got worse and worse. One day it powered down by itself, and refused to turn back on since. (it's not the fuse or the power cord).
Within 9 months after I spent US$800+ for a monitor, I am waiting for a lousy REFURBISHED replacement for the third time. Now I pray for a reliable unit before my warranty expires, staring at 27" of sheer darkness.
As a side note, I also have 23" Apple CinemaHD Display that I bought in 2004, and it's still working perfectly in every sense after 9 years. Only reason I bought this DELL monitor was because Apple didn't include HDMI or DVI port in their new monitors.0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
