Get over the banding fiasco--this is a great monitor!

Summary: After researching monitors for the better part of a month, I ended up going with the Dell 2007WFP. In terms of price, quality, warranty, etc, it was by far the best deal. I actually purchased two which sit on my desk and provide a wonderful panaromic view. I would give it a 10 if it wasn't for the aggravation of...
The Banding Problem. It's definitely there when you're hooked up in DVI, although it's something you have to look for, not necessarily a glaring problem under most circumstances. Hooked up in VGA (which I am) it goes away completely. I knew about this issue when I bought the monitors hoping they would ship me "fixed" models but knowing I could replace them if they didn't. Unfortunately, they sent me "banding" versions and I am in the process of having them replaced. Luckily, I get to keep the current ones until the replacements arrive, and in VGA mode, I am perfectly content. I am a little ticked off at Dell for shipping older models knowing that the vast majority of consumers won't notice the difference.
Overall, I would highly recommend this monitor in spite of the "issue". If you get a model A00 (check the serial on the back) go straight to the Dell forum and request a replacement from ChrisM the moderator. Aside from this minor pain in the butt, you're getting a top notch product.Updated
Got two replacement monitors today (rev A02) and there is no banding in DVI mode. Color and contrast are still excellent, no dead pixels and it took less than a week for Dell to send the replacements. So after the dust has settled, I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending these monitors.14 out of 14 users found this user opinion helpful.

A fantastic monitor that gives a lot of real estate for a very reasonable price

Summary: A fantastic monitor that gives a lot of real estate for a very reasonable price. Fantastic backlighting and viewing angle is superb. The ability to format a 4:3 image as scaled or stretched and even zoomed allows great flexability.
Text is clean and crisp, colours are pretty accurate, however due to the high contrast minor details can become lost in the darker regions of the picture.
Coming from a beloved Hitachi 19" CRT the screen is very bright and just shows how much LCDs have improved over the last 18 months. Backlighting and the increased contrast ratio (over the 2005FPW) are welcome improvements.
Gaming is superb with no visible tearing in NFS Most Wanted. Have yet to see any ghosting. I'm more of an occasional gamer, but I think this monitor performed admirably and even though the game was running at 1024x768 the graphics were still crisp showing the monitors processor does a great job of scaling. I don't really watch movies from my computer, but I did test We Were Soldiers. The dark scenes were a little too dark for my liking. This may be a result of the increased contrast. You can compensate for this through your graphics card drivers though, but this may be important for those who want use this primarily for movies.
The stand is easy to use, however my gripe with this is that when you want to pivot this massive screen you have to tilt the screen upwards else the corner of the screen hits the stand or desk.
The OSD is okay, but a little fiddly and you'll probably want to adjust the transparency to make it more clear which menu item you are actually on. Love the Pcture In P icture and Picture By Picture (PBP) modes, although the images are way too small in PBP to be usable. These are both only usable by Composite and S-video inputs and not by the analog input (assuming you are using the DVI interface).
The buttons on the base of the screen allow you to select any one of the four inputs, select standard, PIP or PBP modes or access the menu.
The inclusion of 4 USB ports (2 on the side plus 2 on the rear) is great and is a welcome feature. Cable management is also great and is very Apple like.
I would highly recommend this monitor, but if you are coming from a 19" CRT you won't get a massive increase in real estate, so you may want to keep your old monitor and use it as a second monitor for dual screen (as I have)... Depending on your needs of course.
Overall, I love this monitor and Dell's customer service is second to none. With a 14 day no quibble returns policy and a 3 year on-site warranty you really can't go wrong with this screen.8 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

A great LCD that shows some minor improvements over the 2005FP, and one small step back.

Summary: I moved up to the 2007wfp from a 17 in. CRT, so it's no suprise that I'm thrilled with the extra real estate and the wider screen. But what I wasn't expecting is how much sharper text is, or how vibrant everything looks. I think this is a great multipurpose LCD that shows some minor improvements over Dell's previous version, the 2005FPW, and one small step back.
First, a lot of people have been waiting on this model due to it's HDCP support. HDCP is a new type of copyright protection that may or may not be needed with the next generation of high definition media. While it's not critical for most users, those that use their computer as an entertainment center may want to take note.
Next, some people were put off by Dell's 2005fpw due to issues with backlight bleeding. It was generally found that you could see some of the lcd lighting leaking out around the corners when the screen was supposed to be dark. Luckily, that seems to be less of a problem this time.
This monitor does well to live up to Dell's reputation. Whether you like the new industrial look is largely up to personal taste, but other things like USB hub, full height and tilt adjustment, and screen rotation are just plain nice to have. Aspect scaling is still included, which is great if you have a game or application that doesn't agree with the widescreen setup. As a casual gamer I have yet to see any major problems with ghosting or tearing. However, there is one drawback.
Those who are into graphics creation and editing may not like the fact that this LCD shows color banding. To explain, banding is when a gradient (a slow shift beteen colors) doesn't display as smoothly as it should. I hardly notice it, but I'm no professional. Then again, those type of people can afford a more expensive monitor anyway, right?Updated
The price on the 2007WFP has been dropping and now this: a recent update to the firmware of this LCD is confirmed to fix the banding issues this monitor had in the past. That's right, 2 of the bigggest drawbacks to this screen are no longer an issue. If didn't have neough reason before, now the time to replace that fuzzy old CRT.4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I feel the record needs to be set straight with this monitor. At the sale price from dell it was the cheapest I could find with HDCP support. I do everything on my computer and have noticed no objectionable defects in the picture quality. The pictures from my digital camera and any gradient tests I have ran look as they should. I have no problem recommending this monitor to friends and feel any negative reports are unwarranted.

An excellent monitor

Pros: Bright, sharp, lightweight, plenty of screen real estate

Summary: I've been using this monitor for four days and it's excellent. No stuck pixels, no dead pixels, color looks good. It's connected via analog, not digital, but it looks very sharp to me. No sign of any color banding or other problems. I wanted a widescreen flat panel to run Photoshop and do image editing and this seems to be just what I was looking for. Contrary to what some other reviews (elsewhere) have stated, the stand is more than adequate to support the monitor without wobbling.
