Dell UltraSharp U2412m price range: $320.11 - $869.99
- Reviewed by: Eric Franklin

The good: The Dell UltraSharp U2412m has great performance with excellent ergonomic support and a robust and easy-to-navigate OSD with tons of options for customization. It also has five USB ports, and it's currently available for about $350.
The bad: HDMI is missing from the connection options, and performance-wise, it's not quite there compared with high-end, pro-grade IPS panels, especially when it comes to viewing angles.
The bottom line: With thoughtful design, great performance, and plenty of OSD features, the Dell UltraSharp U2412 fills its value quotient to the brim.

Great Value for Money!

Pros: Good build quality, plastic is fairly solid and the stand is sturdy.
Image quality is very pleasing.
Settings very easily managed.
Plenty of connections.Cons: No HDMI connection.
No Display-port connection lead included.Summary: I've only had this for a few days, but so far so good.

Build Quality
This appears to be very good. it obviously doesn't have the same feel as the Apple display which is made of glass and aluminium as its made of plastic, but it certainly doesn't feel like it costs 1/4 of the money. The plastic is fairly solid and the stand is sturdy without much wobble unless you put it up really high but then thats silly anyway. The fact it rotates is also a nice feature.
Aesthetics
The display is actually very nice to look at visually (as in with screen turned off) there is a thin bezel and nicely rounded corners. Along with the matt textured plastic makes it overall very easy on the eye. I have it on a white desk with my Mac Mini and it by no means looks out of place and doesn't look like its only to be used in an office with no sense of humour.
Image Quality/Panel
Now for the bit that matters, the cream in the eclair, the batteries in the xbox controller, the...you get the point
The image quality is very pleasing. I was deciding between this and the Dell U2410, and as a photographer I was very tempted by the wide colour gamut of the u2410, but as well as showing more colours it tends to have more problems, for example colours looking over saturated on non wide gamut material. And as I generally shoot in jpeg (saving RAW for special things) an sRGB monitor is fine for my purpose and unless the wide gamut is REALLY necassary then you would be better off with this (u2412) plus a display calibrator than the u2410.
There is almost no backlight bleed at all and is only there when viewing an all black screen and being intently looked for. in operation it is neither noticeable or distracting. when viewing all very dark screens from an angle then you get IPS glow which is common with almost all IPS screens.
The resolution is very nice with things looking sharp, and having 1200 vertical pixels is very nice. Furthrmore the colour reproduction is amazing, and I have been seeing new insight into my photos and noticing things which weren't there before (part of the photo which I hadn't before noticed) I am yet to calibrate it but looking at test images, for example testcard F the colours are accurate and also looking at colour charts etc.
Additional information
The OSD is very nice to use with simple button system and everything available. I would recommend turning the brightness down on this monitor to avoid eye strain.
Mac compatibility is very good. I am currently typing this from my 2012 mac mini connected to the u2412 via apples HDMI to DVI adapter plus a DVI cable (included with the monitor) and there are no problems with it running full resolution, although I will move to display port when I can be bothered to get a cable.
The anti glare coating is not as bad as some other dells, from what Ive been told about them. On this monitor it is just about noticeable (more easily on large spaces of white on the screen) but it is not overpowering and is text is perfectly readable, so to make it clear you can just about notice it but it is not intrusive and doesnt affect the viewing pleasure of the monitor.
Personally I am a fan of glossy monitors so a glossy one would be nice but this is fine for me
Overall
I am very pleased with this as a purchase. For the money I think that it would be extremely difficult to match, let alone beat. the e-ips panel, although doesn't show a wide gamut, shines (not literally). I know some photographers would argue that wide gamut is essential, for most photographers, especially without endless money like myself, this is a great monitor and seems highly capable. Lastly, for cheap price of this monitor, I suggest check at: Monitorreviewsbuy.com/buy-dell-ultrasharp-u2412m/
I hope my review is helpful, good luck!9 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I will start by saying that this is my second Dell Ultrasharp. The first one I ordered was the U2312HM, about $70 cheaper than this one. However I was really disappointed with that monitor, the anti-glare coating was horrible, noticeable back-light bleeding and the edges of the panel seemed like someone had applied a permanent drop-shadow to monitor (photoshop users will know what I mean here).
I reluctantly ordered this more expensive model, however unlike the my first experience with Dell, I am very pleased to say that this monitor is perfect.
Build quality is superb, the stand is rock solid, adjustability is amazing. The monitor has a heavy duty "look" to it, but at the same time very easy on the eyes, the rounded corners are a nice touch.
I was really worried about the anti-glare on this since I couldn't stand it on the U2312HM. I don't know if I was delivered a "dud" the first time around but the anti-glare on the U2412M is much better. Everything is crystal clear, obviously it still has the slightly "dusty" look but I'm not joking when I say that looking at the last monitor made my head spin.
I found one of the major complaints in reviews was mostly the anti-glare coating Dell uses, this monitor I believe was only released a few months ago so maybe they listened to the feedback. Anyway I'm too small a sample size to confirm that Dell is using better Anti-Glare now so take from that what you will. Moving on...
Picture quality is brilliant as expected from the ultrasharp line of monitors. Colours were great out of the box, however I did notice that the image was ever so slightly "cool" but I dialled down the blue a few notches and now its perfect. Obviously I will still have to use a professional calibrator to make sure I get spot on colour (my work one will go missing for a few days tomorrow...).
The other thing that really strikes me about this monitor is the 16:10 ratio. Unfortunately manufactures are in a crazy fad of producing 16:9 desktop monitors. While it's great for TV and gaming, it makes no sense to sacrifice vertical space on a desktop monitor. The 16:10 ratio on this monitor makes working with images a dream, I sit about a foot from the monitor and all I have in my vision is my work.
As you probably can tell I am very pleased with this monitor, I would highly recommend putting up the extra cash and get this over the cheaper U2312HM. To be honest at the current price point it's a bargain for what you are getting.
P.S. for low price, if you're will buy the Dell UltraSharp U2412M, I suggest you have to compare prices before you decide at: *****************.info/Dell-UltraSharp-U2412M

Coating creates sparkling look - not good for office
by Philly_writer_75 on February 23, 2012
Pros: ISP panel plus 16:10 aspect ratio.
Cons: The anti glare coating gives the monitor a sparkling look. This is especially annoying when reading text. I run this monitor next to a 27 inch imac. The low picture quality of the Dell monitor becomes particularly apparent in such a setting.
Summary: Given the quality the monitor seems very pricy. I use LG 22 inch monitors at work and for office applications that seems a much better and cheaper choice then the ...
Summary: Given the quality the monitor seems very pricy. I use LG 22 inch monitors at work and for office applications that seems a much better and cheaper choice then the Dell monitor. I used to buy Dell Ultrasharp monitors in the past and was really happy, but the current anti glare coating seems to render these monitors much less useful for office settings. Now I know why our IT does not buy these monitors. Lesson learned. I will try HP next.

Excellent monitor for the price.

Pros: 16:10 aspect ratio, excellent image and text quality, bright anti-glare screen, configurable image quality settings, adjustability.

Summary: Look, cnet can complain about how the IPS panel isn't as good as the 2410's, but let's face it, the price of this monitor is very good, and you can't expect to have the best IPS panel in a sub $400 monitor.
I use this monitor for graphic design and web programming. I look at small lines of code all day long and have no issues with the clarity of text. It's sharp, and contrary to the other reviewer, the anti glare treatment does not detract from the quality of text, or images for that matter. I don't even notice it, and it does its job quite well.
Color rendition is good as well as viewing angle. I use this with a 2011 Macbook pro with an Apple branded mini-DVI to DVI adapter which works flawlessly.
The extra pixels from the 16:10 aspect ratio, which seems minor, makes a big difference. It's much better than 16:9 for what I do. Gamers may prefer the 16:9 ratio.
I researched monitors for months before buying the 2412, and looked at every single brand that offered an IPS monitor. No other monitor came close to the quality of the dell at the sub $400 price point and included the warranty that dell offers (very important.) I don't regret my purchase at all.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

- portrait mode by swivelling the monitor if needed.
- Wide screen monitor is perfect for movies and games.
- Ergonomics
- led backlight saves on energy
- great looking monitorCons: - Expensive monitor unless you get it on sale.
- For the price you could get a 27 inch regular (non ips) monitor from samsung or lg. Although I doubt it would have picture like this.Summary: I would recomment this monitor to others as I have no real complaints about it and it really high quality. Summary: I would recomment this monitor to others as I have no real complaints about it and it really high quality. Only thing is that its pricy and I waited till it was on sale for $300. I use it for gaming, work and internet browsing. Star wars the old republic looks fantastic on this monitor.

Very pleased with my U2412M
by jeffinfo on May 13, 2012
Pros: Great value. Bright, clear display. Full 16:10 rather than 16:9.
Cons: I'd like the stand to extend higher -- as high as my old 2405FPW did.

Summary: The U2412M replaces my 10 year old Dell 2405FPW monitor, and it looks to me to be just as good. I hesitated to buy the U2412M because I read some reviews complaining of viewing angle and color. I see no problem with viewing angle for my uses. Sure, if I stand up and look down at it or move way off to the side, it's dim, but that's not my normal use of my computer. The color is not the wide range of the Dell U2410, but neither was my old 2405FPW.
I'm glad I credited the good reviews and discounted the bad. I think this is a beautiful 24-inch, 1920x1200 monitor at the price. -

Summary: Bought this to use at my office and it works much better than the 17" monitor our IT department gave me when I started. I did not notice a sparkling look caused by the anti-glare coating and as an accountant I look at text pretty much all day every day.
