Dell UltraSharp U2711 price range: $939.84 - $1,803.86
- Reviewed by: Eric Franklin
- Reviewed on: 01/07/2010
- Released on: 01/07/2010
The good: The Dell UltraSharp U2711 has a super high-resolution screen that shows images in a fidelity we've not seen on a 27-inch display before. Also, the monitor exhibits deep blacks while watching movies, vibrant color in games, has a robust onscreen display, and has a plethora of connection options.
The bad: The Dell UltraSharp U2711 is missing the pivot option that the U2410 had. Also, buyers may find its price prohibitive.
The bottom line: The Dell UltraSharp U2711 is a feature-rich monitor with incredible performance that earns its high price.

Looks great; less surface area than 2709W, more pixels
by mrmondegreen on March 6, 2010
Pros: Great color reproduction and sharpness. Excellent, intuitive touch-sensitive controls. Wide range of inputs.
Cons: 16 square inches smaller than the 2709W due to the different aspect ratios. Text can appear a bit fuzzy on white backgrounds (this is a slight effect). Height adjustment is limited, compared to some of Dell's earlier 24" monitors.
Summary: The U2711 is an amazing monitor for movies and "content" and for those that need high pixel density or color accuracy. For those looking for clear text and more viewing ...
Summary: The U2711 is an amazing monitor for movies and "content" and for those that need high pixel density or color accuracy. For those looking for clear text and more viewing area, or if you are moving from another 27" monitor, beware that you may be disappointed. This monitor is the latest casualty of the 16:9 aspect ratio craziness sweeping the industry. A 27" monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio-- the previous "standard" for 27" LCDs-- like the Dell 2709W (1920x1200 resolution), has 16 square inches additional viewable screen space than the U2711 (2560x1440). What does this look like? Imagine getting a monitor that is 5/8" wider while losing slightly more than 1" of height. You'd need a 29.2" diagonal 16:9 monitor to get the same viewing height as the 27" 16:10 monitor.

The Anti-glare coating sucks!
by RTSchramm on September 14, 2010
Pros: High resolution, and lots of ports. Ok for games and movies. Not OK for accurate color reproduction.
Cons: The anti-glare coating is so intrusive, it tints all the colors a grayish tone. ONly good for general computing tasks. This monitor sucks for 3D graphics and photography work..
Summary: I don't see how this monitor can get anything above a two star rating. I have previously bought DELL monitors and I have to say the the anti-glare on ...
Summary: I don't see how this monitor can get anything above a two star rating. I have previously bought DELL monitors and I have to say the the anti-glare on this one is the worst. At its native resolution, text is really difficult to read; the letters seem to clump together due to the anti-glare coating. Although I don't like glossy screens, I plan on selling this monitor and replacing it with the 27" Apple LED monitor later this September..
! I feel like I just threw $1000 dollars in the trash.
Also I returned the monitor after a week of using it thinking that the coating was defective, so I was really disappointed that the replacement monitor had the same cheap anti-glare coating on it.
Don't buy this monitor!6 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

by rogerymw on May 1, 2010
Pros: Best Price in the same class of products, good picture quality
Cons: I exchanged 2 times, still have problems! heavy colour shift from left to right or dead pixel......I don't know they will change it again or not......but I am tired on that.

Nice piece of technology !
by froGGlicker on March 7, 2010
Pros: Has 4 x USB Ports and 8-in-1 flash reader.
Cons: It is a little expensive, yep.
Summary: TN panels are everywhere and are by far the cheapest option, although they do have a bit of competition from E-IPS displays.

Gamers (i am a gamer) should be happy with this screen as well, but content creators are the real target audience for this screen, with Dell?s specs claiming 96 percent of AdobeRGB coverage, and a Custom Color mode in the onscreen display that allows for tweaking saturation, hue, gain, and offset.3 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Amazing picture and color
by reececonrad on June 2, 2010
Pros: 2560 resolution is awesome.
Cons: You have to connect with DVI-D (Dual link DVI) for full resolution... that's the only way to get full resolution.... only way. Hearing me? can't do it with HDMI or VGA. So, if you're like me and bought it to connect to a laptop, you are screwed.
Summary: love it, wish i could connect it at full resolution to my laptop, but I don't know of any laptops with DVI-D out :(

Continues tradition of adjustable, great Dell Monitors
by toddcromiii on April 19, 2010
Pros: Very adjustable (*height*, swivel, etc).
Colors nice.
High res allows more windows at reasonable readability side by side than before.
USB ports convenient.
Many connectors (& great placement).
Sleep takes little power.
Menus & buttons easy to useCons: Requires a lot of power - Brightness 24/100, Watts Up meter: 70-74W.
A bit slow to sync to new signal - a few secs to more than that on boot/power up (BIOS screens nearly finish before monitor is rdy).
Expensive (not a terrible sin for this quality).Summary: The official CNET review is right on. Some users might find the dot pitch a little small, making text a little small; I changed the dpi setting in Windows XP ...
Summary: The official CNET review is right on. Some users might find the dot pitch a little small, making text a little small; I changed the dpi setting in Windows XP to 110 to match the monitor as measured with a ruler, and moved the monitor closer to me on my desk (21 inches from my nose), which helped.

A perfect monitor ruined by it's AntiGlare coating.
by Musicnotes4u on January 14, 2011
Pros: Great color - Great text at 2560 resolution.
Cons: AntiGlare coating looks like PERMANENTLY ATTACHED DUST.
Summary: The Story:
Wow Wow --- Look at the colors - look at the text at 2560 resolution - PERFECT.
Look at the movie - Wow.
Then my wife tells me ...Summary: The Story:
Wow Wow --- Look at the colors - look at the text at 2560 resolution - PERFECT.
Look at the movie - Wow.
Then my wife tells me - How can you do any work with such a dusty screen. She opened up one of our specialty wipes just for cleaning monitor screen.
But - *** - the dust wouln't come off !!! Then I realized it was the Dell's AntiGlare coating causing the dust problem. PERMANENTLY ATTACHED DUST.
That's how I can desribe it. I am so sad to see a perfect monitor ruined by dust.
My desktop system - Optiplex GX620 - ATI 5450 Graphics (Sapphire).
Screen needed for music production.
Had to return it back to Dell - Sincerely MusicNotes4u.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Incredible performance.
by markdoiron on October 11, 2010
Pros: It just doesn't get any better than this. I do a lot of general work, but am also an avid amateur photographer. Also, the monitor has a non-reflective screen. This monitor is what you need for serious photo editing work.
Cons: What's not to like? Okay, it's design (appearance) is nothing to brag about. But, it gets the job done.
