Poor power button design is a dealbreaker

Summary: Stay away from this product. Like many others, I was very happy with the picture quality on this monitor. However, 4 weeks out of warranty, the small round power button on the front of the monitor broke (disappearing into the case) which renders the whole monitor useless. HP customer support couldn't care less--they tried to sell me another monitor. HP doesn't even offer any kind of paid-for repair service that would help me recover part of my investment. Since I can see from Google searches that the power button problem is common with the HP F2105 (many are breaking inside the warranty after only light use), you would do well to trust this product no longer than its warranty period.

Beautiful display, extras leave something to be desired

Summary: I am very impressed with this LCD display. The colors are beautiful and text is clear. The only problem that I've noticed is the fact that there is backlight bleed from all four corners. This is only noticable when the background is dark (during movie play for example). Otherwise, it's not a problem.
The unit was very easy to set up and it works well with my laptop in Dualview mode. The menu is easy to navigate. The overall package is clean and unobtrusive. A swivel adjustment feature would have been a nice addition.
What really needs to be addressed is the quality of the speakers. Why put a cheap set of speakers on a higher-end display? They are not the worst sounding speakers but HP could have chosen a better set to represent them.7 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Display.......except........
by Star Rose on November 3, 2005
Pros: Picture is briliant, good price.
Cons: Has an apparent conflict with my brand new dual core Athlon 64 or video card. The native resolution tends to spread the desktop image out too far, thus creating noticeable distortion of said images.
Summary: I bought my pc Systemax dual core 64 with a ATI Radeon X700 256 Pci-Express video card, and for some odd reason HP moniter simply keeps losing video signal whenever ...
Summary: I bought my pc Systemax dual core 64 with a ATI Radeon X700 256 Pci-Express video card, and for some odd reason HP moniter simply keeps losing video signal whenever I try to use it. Tried using other moniters, with my computer, which work fine, and the HP works find on other pc's !!!
Problem is HP had no useful advice, or could help me in any way to resolve this issue.
So be aware that some graphics cards may not work with this otherwise admirable and beautiful moniter.

Summary: I just bought this monitor two days ago, and I really love it! It's big, bright, and does everything well so far. I've watched one DVD movie on it, and the monitor was great.
Having the high resolution (1680x1050) is really taxing my video card, so I suppose I'll have to upgrade it (as if I needed an excuse...).
If I had to nitpick, the only things I can think of are the built-in speakers and the front-panel buttons.
The built-in speakers are pretty good, but don't quite match the audio quality of the 3-spkr set (with sub) I have, but they do fine.
The front panel buttons are small and flush with surface of the faceplate, so they're a little hard to press for big fingers. Having the buttons small is good for asthetics, but not as good for actual use. It's a good thing I don't need them much.
Having the Audio Out is great, as I have the Audio In connected to my PC and the Audio Out connected to my old speaker set.
The speakers and buttons are just minor things, the picture quality is what counts, and this picture is excellent.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Monitor design is great but text is REALLY disappointing
by jkaufman101 on May 7, 2006
Pros: Excellent design; bright screen; vivid colors

Summary: I thought I was buying a top-rated monitor when I purchased the HP f2105, but I thought wrong. Text reproduction is so poor (DVI and/or VGA modes) that I can't tell if it's appearing in black or dark red -- or dark green. Text ascenders throw multi-colored shadows off to their sides which makes some characters -- like double-L's (ll) -- blend together in a fusion of subtle RGB hues. I spent hours fine-tuning the monitor -- I even ditched my video card and bought a new $500 one -- but nothing corrected the problem. And as usual, HP tech support was as unhelpful as always. Contacting them is always a losing proposition. So today I returned the HP f2105 monitor to CompUSA and bought the Samsung 215TW. It is a much better solution for me because of its crisp text and extremely vivid colors.
So if you buy the HP f2105, don't say you weren't warned!

Summary: When using the monitor with its native resolution there is always a white shadow close to every letter. I tried the VGA and DVI and none of them works. I think the panel is ok, because when I set a lower resolution centered in the screen the text is solid black and sharp. Also you notice only when background is dark (gray). I have tried 2 monitors and both behave the same.
As a bottom line, for movies could be ok, but definitely not for internet or reading work documents.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Power button problem, per other reviews

Summary: I had the power button problem, also. After talking with 1) India (no help), 2) HP Corporate headquarters (who got a manager to call me), 3) and a service manager, here's what I got: "It's broken, and we can't fix it, at any price. Wanna' buy a new one?" Do not buy any HP product, by there own admittance, they will simply replace it if it is in warranty, and if not, they cannot provide any service. If it sounds like I'm exagerating or overreacting, call 800-HP-Invent and tell them your power button is broken on your f2105 monitor.

Great Picture Very Poor Lifespan Poor HP Warranty Service!
by MartinSchn828 on November 15, 2006
Pros: Picture is as bright or brighter than any other LCD

Summary: HP says the warranty is 1 year, but when I called in for service I was told that the 1 year is from the Manufacture Date, not the purchase date. Monitor now shows a yellow/gold line from top to bottom. This monitor was a gift from my son & now I must ask him for reciepts for HP to approve. Never mind that I have a list of over 20 HP products showing that monitor as a 7/06 purchase. HP accepted that as accurate then, but now when the unit needs servicing, HP want to fight it. For over 10 years I have relied on the HP Name for quality now I must rethink that plan and find another manufacture.
