First Impression on the p2570HD:
by pubillones on September 26, 2009
Pros: Samsung?s SyncMaster P2570HD offers plenty of inputs, a descent HDTV monitor, basic speakers, and a remote control with all necessary features. Also, great style and very good performance are included in a panel less than 2? deep.
Cons: No VGA cable, no height or tilt adjustment and Samsung?s website does not have an updated driver for Windows 7.
Summary: Suitable for: Those that need (or want) a new big screen monitor that might be also be used as a TV.

Specifications: LCD Display; HDTV/Monitor with 24.5 diagonal inches of screen. Paid $339.00 On Line.

Features and Performance: After searching on the Internet for reviews on the new Samsungs (not many found), decided on giving a try to this new product, the P2570HD. This is a computer monitor with multiple inputs; from VGA to HDMI that has an integrated TV tuner, speakers and even the power supply (connects directly to an outlet) in a fairly light device.
It is an attractive screen with lots of shine, transparent surfaces and a matte screen. The base is a shiny black oval with hues of red on the perimeter. A transparent glass bluish neck anchors the monitor. The aspect ratio is 16:9 which makes it very modern looking when compared to the Apple products. The borders of the screen have a 3/16? clear area with also some reddish hues and on the rear, all input jacks are recessed about one inch and face backwards, not downwards like other monitors/TVs. This can make hard flush wall mounting the device. Two small speakers face downward and there is an 18? area on the rear upper part for heat dissipation (remember that the power supply is inside the device).
I tested the monitor with a 2002 Dell XPS running Win-XP and also tried with Windows 7 on the same computer. On this latest OS, the screen did not perform as well as when running XP; images were fuzzy. Tried to get an updated driver, but none (at least yet). With XP and the regular NVidia G-Force Video card the monitor performed excellent. Refresh rate was awesome, colors were bright, blacks were not seen and no distortion or bleeding of the screen was noted. In order to ?stress? the video card to its limits (plus the shared RAM), was able to work with eight screens at the same time and even play a DVD trough the WMP-11 and at the same time, play that same movie stored on an External HDD trough VLC; no problems!
After a couple of hours, I decided to customize the settings for the display and used the remote control for this (instead of the touch sensing buttons on the lower R front area). The Remote is quite intuitive and settings were very easy to adjust for optimum viewing. Brightness and contrast had to be decreased to 67% compared with the factory settings which were 80% for both. Something unexpected, when switching from a regular 17 inch LCD monitor to this big screen, the mouse needs more area to properly work. Otherwise, adjustments need to make for said device but I?ll try that later.
Conclusion: This is my initial impression on the p2570HD and I am quite satisfied with its performance, and especially the cost/factor value. I paid less than $350.00 shipping included and consider that it is a great device and will work as an excellent Monitor/TV alternative in my home office-guest bedroom, especially when out of town visitors want to watch TV or even DVDs.
During the next few days I will test the Samsung?s TV (and HDTV) capabilities as well as playback trough the different inputs; HDMI, composite, etc. By that time I hope that Eric Franklin (my expert friend from Cnet) is able to conduct the proper performance tests with their equipment.
Recently read on several forums that a specific warehouse was selling this device for $350.00. I called all of them within a 50 mile radius of downtown Seattle and none had it. While you decide on which monitor/TV is best for your needs, here are some photos of the monitor so you can see what it looks like since obviously, you are considering it. As a monitor, I would give it four out of five stars. Let?s see how it performs as an HDTV or even an HD-DVD player.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good Value for the Money
by aemelia76 on December 9, 2009
Pros: Aesthetically pleasing. Sleek design As a monitor: Clear and vibrant resolution. Many different config settings to choose from.
Cons: Need to configure settings, since factory settings do it no justice. It was extremely blurry at first until I set to DVI-PC, now it looks perfect. Minor light bleed at top and bottom of screen, but only noticeable if you are using it in the dark.
Summary: Does not look great out of the box. Took me about an hour and half to configure settings and some research.

If you are using as a monitor be sure to select the correct type such as DVI-PC if using HDMI cable to connect computer, otherwise you will see ghosting. I am also using it as a TV, but have no HD content being streamed to it, so I can not comment on that.
Was initially unhappy and dissatisfied with this display. My first response was to get a refund, but I decided to tweak the settings and now it looks great. Settings are very easy to navigate. I would not recommend this monitor to someone who does not have the patience to configure. Awesome monitor for the money if you don't mind taking the time to configure. I purchased an open box model and found it for $281 with the full manufacturer warranty. Shop around. You can definitely find Tech For Less. :)1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

All of the other reviews cover this product well.
by McStud on May 18, 2011
Pros: Love the remote and large display. HDMI< DVI, and VGA hook up. Contrary to one of the reviews, Windows 7 was able to find updated drivers for my unit.
Cons: Limited ergonomics. Wobbly. Cheap plastic base.

Summary: If you have around 350 to 400 dollars, (price may have gone down on this particular model) you will get an excellent HDTV/Monitor. Being able to switch easily from TV to Monitor is great. The most important feature in so far as ease of use is concerned has to be the remote control. No more fumbling around with bezel buttons!

Good HDTV and 1080p Monitor, with DVI & 15pin PC ports
by timtower1 on February 26, 2011
Pros: Bright displays, excellent 1920x1080 display with my PC using DVI, good with VGA (15 pin).
Good sound & HD reception
Simple, uncluttered remote
Easy to switch between TV and PC
Easy connector access at rear.
Nice looking.Cons: Not great viewing angle - probably typical of these displays. (Loses some brightness if one moves more than about 15-20 degrees of perpendicular).
Touch controls on the panel are invisible and not very sensitive. Better to use the remote.Summary: During the past month (Jan/Feb 2011), I purchased 2 HD TV/ PC monitors from Legend Micro, who provided good service:

Samsung P2570HD 25in LCD TV HDTV 1080p
Samsung P2770HD 27in LCD TV HDTV 1080p
I was looking for a monitor that had a DVI port (digital) for my PC, plus has 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080). These are hard to find. I finally tracked down one at Legend Micro. It was the 25" Samsung, refurbished, with 90 day warranty. It arrived within a week as promised, and was nicely packaged, as new. It works great - good TV reception (I use only an antenna), good sound, and very good PC display on DVI. It also has an analog (15 pin) PC connector which works OK but has slightly poorer resolution, as is typically the case. Both give 1920x1080 with my PC. The antenna works even when placed in my basement window, which is at ground level, although here I can get only PBS 9.1, 9.2 (my two favorite channels) and a couple of others. Using the other antenna (in our attic) I can get about 20 + channels, all free. This antenna is a $20 unpowered version from Radio Shack. It probably helps that we are on 45th St in Wallingford, Seattle, which is up about 250 ft above the lake. We face but can't see the city
I liked the 25" unit so much that I ordered a second one. This time Legend Micro had a 27" unit also refurbished. Arrived just like the previous one. I like this even better, as it is larger. Both have brighter displays than my (2) 21" Samsung LCD monitors (1600x1200) (Models 214T), but have to be tilted correctly, using the built-in tilt mechanism, as the viewing range is not as good as on the LCD monitors. Not an issue with me. It is easy to switch from PC to TV, using either remote. These are simple to use (uncluttered).
I measured the power usage on the TVs, using a wattmeter : 45-50 W (25"), 50-55W (27"). Both use < 1W in Standby mode, which is unusual. (They aren't actually off, just awaiting the PC to wake up). -
Great Monitor, Works well when used correctly

Summary: This monitor is a high quality product when used correctly. Many of the reviews and comments on other sites list the monitor as "faulty" or "bad quality" when it is usually an lower quality input to blame. I ran my 2010 17" MacBook Pro into it via VGA and was confused when the quality was less than acceptable. I then switched over to DVI, which (of course) gave me the full 1080p HD resolution I was looking for. I've also used the monitor to play Xbox 360 and watch cable tv, both of which work perfectly. I couldn't have been happier with this monitor.
The only downside I can find is the lack of an audio in when using PC inputs (DVI, VGA). When running media server software to watch movies and tv, I am forced to continue to run the audio through my MacBook's speakers. It isn't bad, but it would be more convenient if I could use the monitor's internal speakers.
Overall, I don't see why this shouldn't be an option for anyone -
Worked right away with my MacBook Pro!
by DaveFromIndy on October 22, 2010
Pros: Worked immediately with my MacBook Pro.
VESA mount option - eliminates any need for the included base to tilt, since I have a VESA desk-mount arm.
Menu system is sleek and easy to use.
Great looking text, images and movies.Cons: If the base tilted I might not take my old monitors off my desk-mount VESA stand. But since I have the desk stand, it's a non-issue. If I had to use the included base, I probably would not have purchased the monitor. It really needs a good tilt.

Summary: I have had a "Mid-2009" 15" MacBook Pro for about a year now, and had never connected an external monitor. I got a DVI mini display port adapter, a DVI-D extension cable, and this monitor.
Bam! Right out of the gate - the monitor came up to the max resolution of 1920 x 1080 and looked fantastic.
I will be the first to admit that I have used it very little so far, but those with a MacBook will be interested to know that connectivity is not an issue. Apple apparently has an allergy to HDMI, so I did not buy the Mini-display to HDMI adapter, even though the monitor came with an HDMI cable. I think as long as you stick with a DVI connection on Apple's in general, you will have success.
Text, images, movies - everything I tried so far has me very pleased with my purchase. That comes from surfing with Safari, working on HD iMovie projects and manipulating images in iPhoto.
I have yet to connect cable to it and see how the TV tuner works, but that is not really why I got it. I hear the tuner is decent. I will likely get something like a Roku box soon, and then I will see how the HDMI connection turns out. -

Summary: I purchased this as a simple living room TV (and occassional monitor) on my wifes demand that I "buy something pretty". And this is a very handsome unit. It's hard to do justice in ink or even in pictures but this monitor is stunning. I know that sounds subjective, but trust me, go look at one in real life and you'll understand what I mean. Picture quality is good out of the box and it is a versatile monitor handling the display duties for the 5 devices (2 Windows 7, linux eeepc, ipad, psp) that regularly wonder through the living room. Price was reasonable.

Absolutely stunning

Deep blacks without loss of picture, white whites without loss of picture, the best picture i've seen on any tv except of course the samsung led 2010 series.Cons: none at all

Summary: I got rid of my 32" bravia 1080p 120hz for this and am very glad. colors are better than anything ive seen There is no cons at all, am a videophile and I have to say, the picture this reproduces even with 1080i from my hd/dvr from comcast is exceptional. I will never switch brands again. Samsung takes the cake in every category, the only thing they could have added are widgets such as netflix or blockbuster, but I have my xbox/playstation and computer all hooked up to this so it doesn't really matter. the only TV besides the Samsung LED 2010 series that beats this is the sharp aquos with quad pixel technology. but thats 1500 and this was under 400, less the size. But I use this in my bedroom anyway, I always watch TV in my bedroom, I have this hooked up with xbox 360 elite, playstation 3, and for sound I run a yamaha reciever with all components hooked up with toslink going to polk audio speakers. I would rather watch a movie in 1080/24p on this TV with my sound system than go to the movies to see it, that is how amazing this product is. Buy it now.

Amazing. Watch TV right on your computer monitor!
by djembeman on February 26, 2010
Pros: Plug anything into it. DVI-D, HDMI, VGA, Component, Composite, HD TV Tuner. Excellent picture for movies and computer applications. HUGE desktop!!! 24.6" diagonal is much bigger than you think. Reasonable price!!! HIGH Quality! LOOKS GREAT!
Cons: Nothing at all.

Summary: It really does what it is supposed to do and more. I've only had it a day and am using it as our temporary main TV in the living room until I can get the new Sony TVs that are coming out soon. Really there is nothing more that I want or need from this monitor. I think the 27" version would be too big for my desk. I have my PS3 connected via HDMI, Computer through DVI-D and 3.5 mini jack, 4 different composite (RCA cable) devices through a switcher to the one composite input, audio out to my Sony Speaker system via 3.5 mini jack. I will be buying the component cable for PS2 to plug that in for higher quality PS2 picture. Seriously, for what I currently own I do not need any more inputs at all! Maybe one more HDMI would be nice? It's an amazing MONITOR/TV!!!

Excellent monitor
by Thothren on September 16, 2009
Pros: Easy to setup.
Amazing picture quality.
Native 1080p resolution.
Looks great.
50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratioCons: Does not come with DVI cable. It's definitely no deal breaker, but it sure is a pain to have to run back to the store so I can hook up my pc.
Mediocre sound quality, but that was all that was expected.
No tilt.

Summary: Taking it out of the box, it was simple attaching the base, unlike some of their previous models. I set it on my desk and it just looks sharp. Getting ready to hook it up to my pc, as that will be it's primary use, I notice no DVI cable in the box, only HDMI.
After getting it connected, I grab the remote, select DVI as source, and boot up my pc. Looking at it in the store it doesn't do it justice. After getting to my desktop, I am amazed at how much room I really have. I download the latest driver from the website and it loads right away on my Windows 7 OS. The picture quality was excellent without any adjustments even if a bit bright. After tweaking the settings a little, I was blown away by the picture quality. Colors are vivid, and contrast is great, something that we have all come to expect from Samsung.
I attempted to run the color optimization program that comes on the disk, but all I get is the Samsung splash screen, then it goes back to my desktop. I also try another program from online, it too won't run. I attribute this to Windows 7, but the picture is so nice anyways, it's no biggie.
I the proceed to attach my blue ray and load up a movie. Picture is very nice, but after making a few adjustments, as expected, the picture is incredible. The sound through the speakers is nothing to write home about, but would be great for a dorm room or small apartment. I figure if you have anything bigger, you plan on getting a surround sound system anyway.
The remote control takes a little getting used to as far as menu structure, but it's pretty intuitive as far as remotes go. It would also be nice if this had picture in picture, but once again, it's no deal breaker.
The monitor is VESA compatible unlike a lot of the earlier Samsungs. I didn't get a chance to hook up cable to it yet, but the tuner to me was just a bonus, as this is primarily a pc monitor for me. As a pc monitor, tilt would have been real nice, instead I had to put a little monitor stand underneath it to get it to the best elevation for me. Being a bit on the tall side (6'4"), this may not be an issue for most.
They are still a bit hard to find, the only place I could find it was one of the major wholesale stores. I don't know CNET's policy on naming stores and such, but as far as I know there are only 2 major wholesale stores, shouldn't be too hard to find the right one.
Overall this is an excellent monitor, well worth the $369 I paid for it.
