Beautiful Picture with no frills for a great price

Summary: I own a Dell 2405FPW which has the Best LCD Picture quality I have ever seen even better than it's predecessor the 2407WFP. I bought 4 of these Samsung 245BW because I wanted at least one with no dead pixels to work in dual mode with my 2405FPW, but guess what? Not one of them had a single dead pixel!!
The picture quality is nearly exactly the same as my beautiful Dell 2405FPW LCD, which makes sense because the Dell 2405FPW does have a Samsung Panel. Well after spending a few hours adjusting settings with both 245BW & 2405FPW side by side, I decided to run 2 of these 245BW dual instead & finally sell my beautiful Dell 2405FPW. I really don't need or want all that additional bull 2405FPW offers (i.e. memory card readers, picture in picture etc. BLAH!!! Who cares? (Although USB ports were nice on 2405FPW, USB hubs are so cheap these days (practically free) having a built in USB hub is not a priority for me. Picture Quality is what really counts.
245BW are Beautiful no frills 24" WUXGA Monitors at a great low price with quality where it counts.(Only paid $479 free shipping at Dell) Plus I got $14.37 cash rebate each too!
Highly Recommended. Black is DEEP BLACK White is bright white.
Like the 2405FPW, these are WAY TOO BRIGHT out of the box, you will need to spend at least a few hrs adjusting color, brightness, gamaa etc.
You will not be disappointed. Buy it!
Another thing, they only weigh 18.7lbs! Almost a full 4lbs lighter than my 2405FPW at 22.7lbs!
Dell 2405fpw is the best LCD I have ever sampled, so considering I am actually going to replace it now with 2 of these, that should tell you something about these. Their picture quality is identical.10 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

Size Matters! And this 24" whopper tops the list.

Pros: Flawless image quality.

Summary: You've GOT to see this monitor to believe it! But don't be mislead by the display demos set up in many high-volume retail stores. With a maximum pixel clock of 154 MHz, the picture quality will almost certainly be limited by their video distribution system instead of the monitor itself. If you have a laptop, take it to someplace that carries this monitor, and ask to hook it up directly. The sales representatives at Circuit City were most accommodating in helping me connect my laptop directly to several monitors to do an "apples-to-apples" comparison. If you do this, be sure to crank up your screen resolution to 1920 by 1200 to see what this monitor can really do!
Image quality is the best feature of this monitor! Text is displayed with crisp, sharp edges without the color artifacts you often see on "electron beam" monitors. Photo images are equally sharp and incredibly vibrant! It is as close to perfect as I have seen. After reading other reviews, I was concerned about the intensity variation as a function of up and down viewing angle. At extreme angles, I can see it, but not to the extent I was expecting after reading the reviews. When seated in front of the monitor, the intensity is very consistent and uniform. Also, I was concerned about the interference from my laptop power supply, which is discussed in other reviews. I have a Dell D420 laptop. I moved its power supply all around my monitor and even wrapped the video cable around the power supply, but I can't see any problems.
The monitor is a little pricey, which is why I didn't give it a higher score. I paid $450, which is more than I wanted to spend. Don't get me wrong...this is a quality monitor, and I feel I got what I paid for. But I wouldn't call it "a steal". Also, the User's Manual is in pdf format, which is clearly translated from another language.
In summary, I am extremely pleased with the Samsung 245BW! I bought it mainly to do CAD schematic capture and layout, for which a large 24" monitor is perfectly suited. However, after seeing how nice photos look on this monitor, I suspect I will be spending many hours enjoying slideshows of my favorite photo shoots!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best monitor for price $369.00 Very big strong colors set it the way you like. Brightness does not hurt my eyes. You have to move your head more but worth the big screen had a 20 and 22 inch this is nice 24inches. Text is fine. You can set for anything pics, movies and etc.

Great Quality LCD, Spacious Screen, Small Footprint
by 65mojoe on February 16, 2009
Pros: LOTS and LOTS of real estate to work on! Clean, simple glossy frame that is Square! (Some of the new Samsungs throw you off visually with their curved bottom edge) Great Color, No Dead Pixels after 14 months of consistent daily use. Great for design!
Cons: Typical black bezel shows a lot of dust. Had some installation issues with the color calibration software. Some of the presets still don't work correctly.

Summary: This is a great 24" monitor for the price and is a real workhorse when it comes to graphic and industrial design work - albeit CAD, adobe software, etc....Having the extra room for your toolbars is a definite PLUS+ I would invest in a Spider or some other type of screen calibration tool if you are serious about color calibration as the Samsung software is a bit buggy. Overall, out of the box, this LCD is a great performer. Will be looking for another one soon! 24 x 2..... :-0

No question the best all around monitor for its price.
by RyanD77 on January 17, 2009
Pros: The Samsung Syncmaster 245BW provides the best bang for your buck. Its massive 24" provides plenty of desktop real estate, it's great for word-processing, surfing the web, using it for gaming and even watching blu rays. Look no further!
Cons: There aren't many bad things to say about it. However, when displaying 1080p from a 1080p source I'm often receiving lines of flickering interference. It also weighs 18.5lbs but that's no big deal as you're not holding it while you're watching it.
Summary: I use this unit as a computer monitor, a tv (connected through my computer), and it is also connected to a Playstation 3 (for gaming and blu-ray movies). It displays ...
Summary: I use this unit as a computer monitor, a tv (connected through my computer), and it is also connected to a Playstation 3 (for gaming and blu-ray movies). It displays everything incredibly bright, clear, and with amazing contrast at its 500 nits, 400cd/m resolution, and 3,000:1 contrast ratio. When gaming it never blurs or ghosts due to its incredible 5ms response time, and its viewing angle is amazing at 160 degrees horizontal and vertical; great for when you have multiple viewers watching it. If I were to rate its functionality I would give it no less than 10/10.
When set to a 1080p resolution outputting from a Playstation 3, some games and blu-ray movies play along with flickering lines of interference/snow. This is most likely the hdmi to DVI cord I'm using as what's behind the flickering lines is amazing resolution. As a result I've been using a 720p resolution which displays perfectly and still looks unbelievable.
A great feature in which I also use often is MagicBright. The monitor alone is extremely customizable if you like to adjust your own contrast, gamma levels, brightness, etc. Engineers have already programmed optimal settings for different uses i.e. surfing the web, gaming, watching movies, and the list goes on. All of this is accessible at the touch of one button. Did I mention how user friendly this monitor is?
Right out of the box, this beast of a monitor is ready for anything. Its features and functionality are well worth its price. Before this monitor I had the 20" Viewsonic VG 2021, which isn't widescreen or HDCP compatible. I did my usual extensive research before buying a new monitor that was HDCP compatible and worth my money, and as soon as I came across the Samsung 245BW there was no comparison of what it offers compared to others within its price range. Samsung seems to be the best of the best when it comes to a reliable hi-def product.
Bottom line is I've done extensive research before finally purchasing this Samsung 245BW. When I went in-store they didn't even have one on display to compare it with other monitors. I believe it would put them to shame. If you're doing your own market research and interested in buying one, stop here go out and buy one. You will not regret it. -

Summary: Very nice monitor, looks great on my desk. The picture quality is exceptional considering the price, with excellent color reproduction. The stand is stable, the monitor does not move around if the desk gets bumped.
The monitor is pretty deep (about 4"), but I haven't had that detract from all of the pluses I've found with it.
Overall, it's a great monitor for the low price. -
