Product brief
Intro: The ViewSonic Optiquest Q19WB is a 19 in, flat panel computer monitor.Compared to other flat panel monitors on the market, it is inexpensive at around $170.Comes with a built-in set of stereo speakers. This model features a 1440x900 native resolution.Weighs 9.9 lbs.
Noteworthy Features: This monitor can eliminate the need to have PC speakers sitting on your desk?just plug your PC's audio into the monitor and use the speaker that it has built in.Its wide viewing angle (160 degrees) is useful whenever the screen is being viewed by more than one person at the same time.
Weaker Features: Has only 700:1 contrast ratio. This is not out of line with the product's price, but is lower than the average monitor on the market today.
Suitability: Built for those who want a spacious screen that will not hog their entire desk. The 5 ms response time of this screen makes it ideal for fast-moving games and for watching movies.
Value: Given its inexpensive price, this monitor has great features for the money. For example, when it comes to viewable screen size, the average price of flat panel monitors with similar viewable size is considerably more?in fact around $335.
Suggestions: (1) Before purchasing an LCD monitor, consider visiting your local store for a live demo to ensure that its overall image quality, color, and sharpness meets your expectation.(2) For more help in deciding if this is the right monitor for you, visit the buying guide for monitors at CNET Reviews.

Great value, but check compatibility
by andrewivan on May 28, 2007
Pros: Crisp clear images, fast response time

Summary: Very happy with screen when connected to my HP Pavilion desktop with NVIDEA graphics card (for which I had to upload updated driver from NVIDEA to allow screen to work properly). Images are great. BUT unhappy that the screen is NOT compatible with my HP laptop using an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M graphics card. ATI does not provide a driver that will allow monitor to function properly.

Nice, for a cheap monitor
by trebonius on March 9, 2007

Summary: I really like having the widescreen real-estate offered by the 1440x900 resolution. The screen is bright and sharp. In fact, I have to turn it down pretty far to prevent eye fatigue since I sit in front of it all day. The auto-adjust functionality is worse than any of the three other LCD monitors I've had, though, and it's the only one that doesn't remember its settings. It has to run auto-adjust every time it turns on. It often gets it wrong, and pressing the auto-adjust button doesn't help, so every morning I have to turn it off and on a few times until it correctly lines up the pixel borders.
The speakers are behind the monitor screen, and they weak and muddy sounding. I don't use them. But then, who buys a monitor for the speakers?
Everyone in my office got one of these at the same time, and we're pretty happy with them. Only one of us had a bad pixel. Beware if you're really picky about bad pixels, though. Their warranty doesn't cover less than five bad pixels.
The only other problem I've had is that I can't seem to get the colors to match with my other ViewSonic LCD. (Optiquest is a ViewSonic brand) I set them both to SRGB, but this monitor is distinctly bluer.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Cheap Monitor
by JTmarlin on December 3, 2008
Pros: Worked great for 16 months.
Cons: Didn't work after 18 months. I've never had a monitor fail after such a short time. Received no help from Viewsonic. Very disappointed, will never buy Viewsonic again.
Summary: Don't buy unless you regulary change monitors. I bought 4 and two are having problems.

Great monitor for the money

Screen size.

Summary: This monitor displays my games and DVDs perfectly. There is a huge amount of screen real estate and a good native resolution of 1440x900. The monitor has no extra frills (like those tiny speakers that don't sound good anyway) so the price can stay low.
The only bad things i have to say about this monitor is that you have to use a converter to make use of pretty much any newer video card, which have only DVI inputs. It is also difficult to see grays from the slightest of angles when on a white background, but that has only happened to me in a few isolated cases.
I have had this monitor for well over a year and still love it. I have had only a single dead pixel out of the 1.3 million the screen has. I recommend it to anyone venturing into the LCD monitor world. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this flat panel. -
Great monitor

Summary: My company first bought a Princeton LCD1908 but had to send it back due to what I call a "rainbow effect". This was due to the screws was to tight at the base and it looked like a rainbow.
Sent it back and got this one and it work perfect. I can view spread sheets in the intended format. Color is nice and bright. This monitor is use as extended monitor for my (IBM) Lenovo N100 laptop. You can really tell between the laptop monitor and this one.
Color are more vivid and white are brighter.
Would be very good monitor for people that do graphics design or ones that do photo editing like myself.
Note: Since this is a wide screen with lower neck to the base. It fits inside my cubicle with overhead storage nicely. -
You get what you pay for.
by nuhmizer on December 27, 2006
Pros: Attractive design, easy to setup
Cons: where do I start?

Summary: I was very leary of the whole "widescreen" thing and I was right to be. This widescreen monitor just stretches your desktop out. I doesn't give you any more usable work area for viewing multiple windows and such. I use CAD programs to design things and when I draw a circle, it is displayed as an elipse. This issue alone makes the monitor useless to me. But besides that, the display is below average. With smaller letter fonts (window menus) there is a very noticable shadow around the letters that makes them appear blurry. The monitor doesn't come with any kind of software to make adjustments.
All in all, like I stated, you get what you pay for. The widescreen idea appears to just be a marketing ploy. Unfortunately, I've decided it's better just to go back to my old CRT.3 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.
