Summary: I am 48 yrs old.. used to 70-200mm F/4 L USM and happy with the lens untill I try the F/2.8 IS. this lens is for those who is looking for the best and crisp detail/sharpness.
the big different is in small detail such as human hair, bird's feather etc.
The Image stabiliser is really help.. I can managed to get reasonable sharp pictures at 200mm at average room lightning condition which will be blurred without IS [ Aged problem..
.] But The price and weight is on the high side.
IF you looking for crisp detail/sharpness and nice/smooth Bokeh( blurr BG ). this lens is just right for you. But if you are looking for cheaper, lighter and don't ask for the best and crisp detail/sharpness the 70-200 F/4 will be your choice. I am keeping both..

Summary: My husband and I love this lens. We bought one and fought over it so much that we had to buy another one. This is anamazingly easy to use lens with all the bells and whistles. Because of the f/2.8 it is great for lowlight and the telephoto range is very versatile. The autofocus works almost all of the time without jitter. The quality and crispness of the images is excellent. The only downside is that it is too heavy to use without at least a monopod. The tripod mounting ring works very smoothly. If you can only buy one lens and you can afford this one, this is it.

Summary: I am a photography enthusiast/amateur. I do not have any professional experience. But, I have about a 1 1/2 years use of this lens. This is a fantastic lens. I do use it a lot less than my 24-70 USM 2.8L. However, I like this one a lot more. I use this lens when doing sports photography. The IS feature is phenomenal. The "L" glass produces sharp clear pictures. The only downside is the price. $1550-$2000 is a lot to shell out, but it is well worth it.

One of the best tele zoom lens

Summary: I have the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. The f/2.8 aperture is as wide as you can get for a tele zoom (you need a prime lens if you want a wider aperture). The IS version works great in low light action handheld shots. The optics are superb, as good as it can get for a zoom lens. I bought this lens to take photos of my fast moving 3 year old, and it works great. However, the size can be intimidating to some people. When I use it in the children area of the mall to take photos of my son, the security came and thought that I was a pro taking photos of children without parental permission. The weight is not a problem. I carry this lens along with my Canon 30D, EF 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and my Sony HDR HC3 camcorder all day without problem. The price is also on the hefty side, but the lens is worth every penny. And this lens will outlast the camera body.

Summary: This lens is incredible! Many, many more keepers. Only thing I have noticed and not all of the time, when the Canon 10D battery is running low this lens may cause a communication error between the body and the lens forcing you to shut down the camer, slightly dismount the lens and remount and then it works. It's pretty rare but for the price you'd think it would be flawless.
