The good: New Finder features; better interface responsiveness and overall speed, even on legacy hardware; Safari includes improved performance and RSS; QuickTime 7.0 offers higher-resolution video; new Automator allows systemwide scripting; Core Data and Core Image open up new opportunities to developers; better cross-platform compatibility.
The bad: Most upgrades are hidden under the hood; features the average user will notice, such as Mail, clash with Apple's own user interface design; some features are unavailable on hardware older than a year or two.
The bottom line: Though its new user features have mixed appeal, Tiger's technological changes and speed improvements make this an enticing upgrade, especially for those who passed on Panther.

You're a bit late - Leopard is just around the corner
by VegasOnline on February 6, 2007

Summary: This reviewer is a bit too late, Leopard 10.5 is coming in a few months. I highly suggest this OS over XP for everyday use. However, if you need specific programs for running nuclear war-head-armed satellites, then maybe this isn't for you.
I've tried to stall and crash this system, but no luck - XP on the other hand, couldn't keep up.
Bottom line, it will take a few weeks to adjust to the simplicity (read: NOT FOR KIDS simple, but JUST PLAIN WORKS FOR ADULTS WITH REAL WORK simple) and reliability if you're coming from XP.
Keep in mind, should you really need XP, there are options to install XP with(in) this OS. I suggest eliminating XP altogether in order to understand the significance of this OS. -
What the heck, this review is a bit behind the times.

Pros: Excellent OS. Smooth to use.
Cons: None once you get used to it. It would be worth the switch.

Summary: This review seems to have been written a long time ago and just now dusted off and posted. With references to Longhorn (Vista), which hasn't been referred to as Longhorn in a long time has now been released. I would expect more from a resource that is supposed to be reviewing the latest and greatest. Leopard is near, hopefully we won't have to wait nearly two years to see your review on it.

Summary: Tiger is a very stable fresh ui. Works great with all its applications. Still years ahead of Vista. The features that are said to work just do that work. With vista you have to play the guessing game and run that new rating system for vista. Still ive seen moments where some things on vista didnt work and the rating system didnt say anything about it. Ichat is amazing and in the end tiger does what its suppose to. Its and operating system a great one at that. Not a crappy pain in the ass product that keeps crashing like microsofts. But hey if it werent for all the problems you wouldnt have companies exploiting them to make money.

Summary: Macs were once the dominant computer OS. They were amazing machines for their time. Then Windows came along along blew it out of the market. There was a reason for that. Windows is the better operating system, and this is shown by the number of people who own Windows compared to any other OS. There is also a reason why Apple computers can run Mac and Windows, and other pc's don't run Macs. The Apple users need Windows for reason or another. Mac OS is USELESS to Windows users. Windows does everything Mac's do, and more. The one thing Tiger had was its user interace. It was nicer than windows xp. Now Vista comes out, and once again Windows stands on top.

THANK MAC OS 10.4 FOR VISTA' S release is'nt the review way late?

Summary: Look, first this review was due some yr and a half ago. Leopard, MAC OS 10.5 or 11 is due in less than 6 months. While MAC is a great operating system, it has it's moments and I've got freinds that use Mac. Because PC's challenge you; you don't swet the small stuff. MAC heads seem to cringe if Macs sniffle. Mac's are anti comp skills in a world of people who already can't read; While saying their for the intellectual. So Mac OS 10.4 is good if you don't mind spending the amount of a good used car to bye it and the machines their in. Mac needs to get into less costly Machines with more capability. So the OS is great, if you can afford a cadillac CTS

Don't be fooled by Apple-haters : try a Mac yourself, you'll know.

Summary: First : the "latest" iteration of OS X Tiger is not what CNET reviewed : 10.4.6 came out in april 2006 and has since been upgraded twice (it's been 10.4.8 for 4 months).
OS X is for people who just want to USE their computer : nothing to fix, nothing to do to "make it work" (and no weird "activation" process : Apple isn't Microsoft, it won't spy on you).
I don't understand why there are still so many Apple-haters online (not only on Microsoft-sponsored websites). Some of them even pretend they're Mac experts, when obviously they are not.
Ten years ago, these guys predicted the imminent death of Apple. When that failed to happen, they predicted the imminent arrival of viruses ; OS X has been out for 5 years now, where are those deadly viruses ? So I wonder what these "experts" will know predict ... (BTW, the same people did also predict the failure of a certain ... iPod).
The only drawback with OS X is that it is not for gamers - yet. I don't play, but my kids do : they have to reboot their computers with BootCamp and XP.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Why does it cost so much?
by ferretboy88 on February 5, 2007
Pros: looks good, nice software comes with it
Cons: you have to pay for it
Summary: I just bought Vista for only $20 more. Apple needs to release for less money. Ubuntu is way cheaper at zero dollars.
