- Evoluent's updated VerticalMouse 3 refines its longtime ergonomic mouse product into a robust modern competitor. It lacks the wireless freedom of Microsoft's recent ergo mouse, but otherwise, it's just as comfortable, more feature-packed, and better designed. Just don't be afraid of its unorthodox looks.

KeyOvation Evoluent VerticalMouse 3 price range: $109.00

The good: Keeps your arm even straighter than the competition (assuming that's ergonomically sound); DPI toggle button with LED indicator; software allows you to configure application-specific button profiles.
The bad: At $80, it's not cheap; not wireless; needs another thumb-side button; DPI-switching button inconveniently located on the bottom of the mouse.
The bottom line: Evoluent's updated VerticalMouse 3 refines its longtime ergonomic mouse product into a robust modern competitor. It lacks the wireless freedom of Microsoft's recent ergo mouse, but otherwise, it's just as comfortable, more feature-packed, and better designed. Just don't be afraid of its unorthodox looks.

Tendonitis in wrist relieved in a very short time.
by grammary9902 on September 12, 2008
Pros: Ease of use. There is a wireless version now.
Cons: It's a little big for my stubby fingers. I have to make a conscious effort to keep the side of my hand on the desktop. It's also easy to hit the bottom button with your pinky if you're not careful.
Summary: I bought this mouse specifically to relieve the tendonitis in my wrist. I suffered a great deal of pain and couldn't bend my wrist in some natural positions without ...
Summary: I bought this mouse specifically to relieve the tendonitis in my wrist. I suffered a great deal of pain and couldn't bend my wrist in some natural positions without pain. After only one month of use, the tendonitis (I call it "Mouse Wrist") is all but gone. Perhaps in time Evoluent will come up with a couple of different sizes. The buttons are a little sensitive, but overall it just takes using it to get better at it. My overall take is if you're having wrist pain, BUY IT! There is a wireless version available now and I bought mine from PCConnection.com and paid about the same as CNet's sources.

E for Excellent Evoluent
by mandy, otr on October 26, 2007
Pros: Encourages neutral forearm and wrist; has the technology to significantly reduce total number of mouse clicks

Summary: I regularly perform office ergonomic evaluations and this mouse has been helpful in reducing upper extremity discomfort related to prolonged mouse usage. It puts the arm in a neutral position at both the wrist and forearm which places less stress on the soft tissue structures that when aggravated can cause discomfort. Most people who use a standard mouse have used it for years and tend to use it incorrectly. This handshake position helps improve behaviors that are nearly impossible to change with a standard mouse. There is a learning curve with this mouse, but I have found it easier to learn to use the Vertical Mouse than to get someone to use the standard mouse correctly. The high dpi allow for smoother and shorter movements to operate the mouse which decreases the reach required for operation. The button tension is reduced to decrease the force required to click. This also helps decrease the tendency to over grip the mouse which is common with a standard mouse. The vertical hand position decreases the tendency to hold the wrist in extension as well as compression from resting on the desk edge. I have used the Vertical 2 and was excited when the Vertical 3 came out because it addressed the issue of what I call "pinky drag" with the new flanged edge. One of my favorite features of this mouse is the "auto click" function which combined with assigining a "double click" to one of the buttons greatly decreases the total number of mouse clicks. Although the current size works for the "average" population, I can see this mouse benefitting more of the population if it came in a couple of sizes (i.e. small, medium, large, x-large). Also, a wireless version would be a great option although I don't think it's necessary. Based on the size/shape of the mouse, its not really ideal for travel but that's not to say it wouldn't be worth taking along. Overall I think this is a well designed and innovative product. Although the cost may seem high compared to a standard mouse, the quality of this mouse is worth it.

A Mouse For Our Times

Summary: I've had the Evoluent since it first came out. I was thrilled. I was developing carpel tunnel syndrome and was looking for help when I discovered this mouse through a Google search. It looked odd but after I read about it, I decided to give it a try and I've been a fan/user ever since!
It does take a few tries to get used to the unconventional shape but once you do, it's like dial-up, you can't go back!
The new version 3 hasn't arrived as yet so this review is based momentarily on the EVM2. According to the website, there are several improvements that I will evaluate once it arrives, but based on the over 5 years of using this revolutionary mouse, I can tell you that if you're suffering from wrist pain or discomfort, you should give this vertical mouse a try. It's just so comfortable once you get used to its shape and hand position.
It's very accurate although you'll have to get used to click activation when you release the button as opposed to activation in the down click. This is great in that it gives your time to cancel a click if you so desire. With other mice, once you click, that's it...you're on your way. This mouse gives you a chance to review your move before activation.
I just love this mouse and can't wait for the newest version which I promise to review after a few months. In the meantime, if you're having those wrist ailments, you would do well to check out even the EVM2. I promise you'll feel a big difference, a great deal of relief and a new ease of mousing. The only reason I gave this mouse a 9 is because it's not wireless. Jack Lo, its inventor, says that will be coming soon. Hurry up, Jack!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Cured by Carpal Tunnel Syndrome !!

Summary: I work on the computer all day and got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I had Numbness, tingling and pain in my hand, wrist and fingers. After switching to the Evoluent VerticalMouse at home and the office, my symptoms were about 80% improved.
Read the website www.verticalmouse.com to learn why this mouse works for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
I also wear a wrist brace only when I'm sleeping. This opens the carpal tunnel to relieve pressure on the nerves and allow any inflammation to subside.
This mouse is worth it's weight in gold because it relieved 80% of my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome symptoms. No need for surgery now!
It took me about a week to get used to the vertical mouse. After that, it was like I was using it my whole life.
Make sure you get the Vertical Mouse 3 as the wheel is improved (now has clicks). Also, another reviewer said the mouse is only available for right handed people. This is wrong - it's available in both right an left handed models.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

I was very much expecting this to be a good mouse...
by CareyVandenberg on December 8, 2012
Pros: Nice feel and design. Buttons very customizable
Cons: I set button 3 for a right click but on things it doesn't work and on others button 2 works as the right click. This thing is demon possessed.
Summary: The software of this device obviously has a lot of bugs. It's going back to Costco where I bought it.

EXCELLENT for ergonomics!
by suzkstein on August 21, 2010
Pros: This mouse is THE most comfortable for my wrist. I've only had it a week yet I no longer suffer with wrist pain thanks to this brilliant design. I'm not sure why given what we know about anatomy that it wasn't though of sooner.
Cons: There is only 1 complaint I have about this mouse. It's so tall that when I move my right typing hand over to the mouse I knock it off the pull out tray that my keyboard/mouse reside on. It's a matter of getting used to having a tall mouse I guess!

Summary: I love this mouse not only because it has the DPI toggle switch and programable buttons but MOST of all because it is comfortable for my wrist. I was experiencing serious pain due to tendonitis which is now virtually gone. The minor draw back of getting used to placing my right hand on it without knocking it off the desk will be easy to overcome in a short time. I recommend this mouse for anyone who wants to avoid wrist pain or cure current wrist pain! We purchased it on ebay for $45 new. It was well worth the price.

Cursor Freezes
by muggsy50 on August 6, 2010
Pros: I like the ergonomics, but mouse does not work - freezes frequently and they will not replace it.
Cons: My company has 5 other of these mice and all work well on desktops and laptops. Mine freezes frequently and customer support will not replace it. Wasted a lot of my time going through numerous questions and troubleshooting steps to no avial.

Summary: Mouse is worthless if warranty is no good. More than enough evidence points to being a bad mouse but they will not send out a new one. Rather, they would frustrate the customer with "testing" under various conditions, and then sending the mouse back for Q/A testing for 5 days, and then "maybe" sending a new mouse.

Stopped my wrist pain!
by deekae on September 14, 2009
Pros: This is the only mouse that permanently stopped my wrist pain - and I've tried quite of few others. It took a week to get used to using the vertical design, but my wrist felt better within days.
Cons: Can't think of anything I don't like about this mouse.
