Logitech G5 Laser Mouse (Blue/Black) price range: $239.88

The good: Easy to use, on-the-fly sensitivity changer; customizable weighting system; updated design includes two thumb-side buttons; new higher sensitivity laser sensor; fully cooked Vista support.
The bad: Thin thumb buttons might be tough to use for those with large hands; electric-blue styling reminds us of a SpikeTV sports drink commercial (for some this might be a "good").
The bottom line: Logitech finally earns a CNET Editors' Choice award with this update to its flagship gaming mouse. An extra thumb button, an updated laser sensor, and more convenient and flexible customization options than the competition make this mouse easy to recommend to any PC gamer.

Ehh, I don't like it even though I used to use it a lot
by Niiro13 on January 24, 2008
Pros: Nice dpi switching, 2000 dpi, weight adjustment
Cons: Scroll Wheel weird, texture weird.
Summary: For some reason I don't like this mouse as much as other people do.

The texture was so weird when I first use it. I was like what?? It's hard to describe the texture.
The dpi settings on the mouse is really nice. It's the best method for on the fly.
Scroll wheel kills my finger. I use mouse3 for ventrilo talking. Because I kind of press mouse3 pretty firmly, this mouse kills my finger. The reason being is because the scroll wheel is thinner than most mice that I've seen. Also, the added left and right feature is useless. The wheel is tilted to the right a bit, so a lot of times I would accidentally move it to the right instead of pressing it down.
Weight system is very unique. It makes a difference, but I don't think that the range of weights make enough difference to get the mouse just for that.
The 2000dpi isn't noticeable from 1800 dpi, so I don't think that it should be bought just for that either.
Other than that, I am not entirely sure if the mouse is worth more than $45.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

The only thing missing from the older G5
by Dr_b_ on March 24, 2007
Pros: Now it is complete with the missing thumb button
Cons: hope the surface doesn't attract skin oil, and hope the components quality improved

Summary: The only thing missing and imperfect about the older G5 was the lack of the extra thumb button, which it now has. I do not think the button is too small and I never accidently hit the small button or big button because of their size. It just might be the ultimate mouse now. The only thing wrong with logitech is the tendency for the buttons to wear out, due to cheap components, but they have exceptional warranty.

Definitely a really nice mouse
by bhoyt47 on March 5, 2008
Pros: Pretty much everything you could ask for in a mouse
Cons: Looks a little silly. Not cheap.

Summary: This is a great mouse. It's comfy, very responsive, and has more options than any other mouse I've ever had before. Also, don't be fooled by the whole "resolution battle" that the mouse manufacturers seem to be having right now. I'm a pretty hard-core gamer and I don't even turn this thing up to close to it's maximum resolution. You'd have to have the reflexes of a fly to be able to use it like that...

worth every penny, awesome, sometimes mouse messes up
by scooby4844 on April 26, 2007
Pros: comfort, programmable buttons, changeable dpi, and weights

Summary: I bought this mouse at Best Buy for 60 bucks, thought it would work good and my other mouse broke. I used to play css(counter-strike source) with a normal mouse that worked fine, then I bent the end and decided to buy a new one. I plunged it in and started using it and it was great!!! my css playing was a lot better and the mouse was a lot more comfortable. after I installed the software the mouse started moving to fast or to slow, it can be fixed by pressing the + or - dpi arrows, but i didn't press them to change it in the first place!! it is a minor flaw, and the price may be to high for this price range, but I highly recommended it, especially for css players or computer gamers.
this mouse is a gaming mouse and if you are looking at this for some other usage you can probably go cheaper1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

If you are looking for a gaming mouse, this is it.
by thok06 on May 19, 2010
Pros: Great button placement, wheel works really well in-game, love the on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment. Not too expensive: ~50
Cons: Sometimes is painful after holding it. Maybe I played too much? The edge on the right side of the mouse seems sharp and digs into my hand. I've tried a couple of different ways of holding it and eventually sorted it out.
Summary: Bought this after looking at online reviews, and many people seemed to like it. It has a great feel to it, lots of grip, has this crazy little tray of ...
Summary: Bought this after looking at online reviews, and many people seemed to like it. It has a great feel to it, lots of grip, has this crazy little tray of adjustable weights that pops out the bottom so I can adjust how heavy it is. But occasionally this tray will fall out. I love the software that comes with it, makes the mouse fully customizable. It is lighting quick too, an advantage over wireless mice that sometimes can lag out on you. (Which is not good in multiplayer) One of the edges is a bit sharp and depending on how you hold the mouse, can get painful if you're not careful. Try a few positions out, keep gaming sessions under 10 hours and you'll be fine.

The G5 is an every-man kind of mouse
by Tom_Wright on July 10, 2009
Pros: Comfortable right-handed design
Well-placed buttons
On-the-fly DPI switching
Good customization options
Weight cartridge
DurableCons: That stupid, stupid "middle mouse button." Clicking down the scroll wheel is a pain, and it never works out right. It's a good thing I never need to do that.
Summary: I see the Logitech G5 as a mouse that pretty much everyone can be comfortable with. It works for most grip types, and is comfortable for most people. It definitely ...
Summary: I see the Logitech G5 as a mouse that pretty much everyone can be comfortable with. It works for most grip types, and is comfortable for most people. It definitely beats any ambidextrous mouse in terms of comfort for right-handed users.
The buttons, with the exception of the middle mouse button, all work very well. They are responsive and easy to press, but not so easy to press on accident. It is possible, however, to hit both thumb buttons when trying to press just one of them.
Extra features like DPI switching and weight cartridges are a lot of fun. I always get the strangest looks when I show people what my mouse can do. People don't realize that there are mice out there that do so much more than their little Microsoft OEM mouse.
The G5 lasts. I've had my G5 (old version) for two years now, and it still looks brand new. I use a mouse clip to protect the cord, which might fray along the edge of the desk due to its texture.
The mouse tracks perfectly. It's a great purchase. I only wish it had 3200 DPI like the G9 for my big monitor rather than 2000 max. -
Gamer's requirement
by FrankQC on January 20, 2009
Pros: Easy to use
Weights are easy to adjust
Slim look
Side thumb keys are useful when gaming (key assignment for VoIP hotkeys)
Adjustable on-demand sensitivityCons: The scroller makes 'ticks'

Summary: This mouse is a definite requirement if you are a heavy gamer. The extra keys provided will come into use when you join VoIP servers where you need an assigned hotkey to talk (push-to-talk). I myself game somewhat a lot and I highly recommend this mouse.
This mouse is perfect for both MMORPG and FPS players. You can revert sensitivities from high to low, making it an essential element at a gamer's hands. -
Click Wheel Ruins It...
by iamrta on December 7, 2008
Pros: Good size, good texture, nice weights, solid design and strong cord.
Cons: Click wheel sucks sucks sucks. Too high, too sensitive, to loose. Clicking it sends the wheel scrolling. AWFUL if you melee with the wheel click. You WILL change weapons and die. Side click option on the wheel is WAY to sensitive.
Summary: Great mouse if you don't mind your scroll wheel not working for you.

Very nice upgrade over my previous Logitech MX510
by JayRW on August 17, 2008
Pros: Very smooth movement, On the fly DPI adjustments, Adjustable weight

Summary: My previous MX510 mouse was great but the wheel finally started to fail, I was ready to buy another MX510 but then saw this newer revised G5 on sale and ended up getting it instead, Im glad I did because its basically the same design as the MX510 but with more features and improvements such as an adjustable weight tray, on the fly DPI adjustments, smoother movement thanks to higher sampling rates, better grip due to it's rough surface texture and a bigger wheel which is easier to use.
Overall Im very impressed with the G5 and dont have any complaints other than its dull blue / cracked look.
