The good: Solid-feeling and hefty; tiny USB receiver.
The bad: Bland design, no thumb buttons, mouse doesn't snap onto docking button securely enough.
The bottom line: Logitech's new V550 Nano laptop mouse adds a unique "clip and go" dock that lets you clip the mouse to your laptop's lid, but we're not sure it's a feature anyone has been clamoring for.

The Best Laptop Mouse I've Ever Used
by jonac13 on October 11, 2008
Pros: The mouse is a nice weight, the scroll wheel is very sufficient, and the battery life seems outstanding. The Logitech SetPoint software does not disappoint. I've used the mouse for gaming, as well, and it's quite sufficient for a gamer on-the-go.
Cons: The main selling point of the mouse, the feature to lock the mouse onto the laptop, seems a bit gimmicky. There are also no side buttons, for navigating web pages or programming for games. It also has a nondescript style.
Summary: In the end, the features of the mouse that are worth griping about seem so small compared the the pros. Like the Cnet review seemed to say, I can definitively ...
Summary: In the end, the features of the mouse that are worth griping about seem so small compared the the pros. Like the Cnet review seemed to say, I can definitively comment that this is best laptop mouse that I've ever used. It has the most robust feature set that I've encountered, and seems to execute on each element very well. And unlike mice that compete with this one, the $60 price point seems competitive. Anything else at this price, like the Windows Arc Mouse or some of the Kensington products that I was browsing over seemed to focus too much on style, without really paying too much attention to the strength of the feature set that a mouse really needs. In the end, I feel no regret making this my laptop mouse of choice.

Perfect for my MacBook Air
by CodeCavalier on November 8, 2011
Pros: Simple, elegant. Hyper-fast scrolling is AWESOME, a must-have. I don't know why more people haven't caught on, maybe it's because I spend most of my time in long pages of code. V550 silver looks beautiful alongside my MacBook. I've never had a trackin
Cons: Has relatively few features. Just the basics. For some people this may be a drawback. (I prefer it this way) It comes with an adhesive hook thing that allows you to hang the mouse on something (like a monitor) when you're not using it, but I didn't wa
Summary: No frills, just beautiful styling and powerfully solid performance.

Solid mouse with interesting features
by wizbang_fl on April 15, 2011
Pros: Vertical wheel with wheel that tilts for horizontal scrolling, wheel also can be freewheel scroll or have detents that keep the wheel from scrolling freely) App button (similar to expose' on mac) allows you to see all the open windows on your XP desktop
Cons: This model is now difficult to find.
Summary: I thought this mouse was ok when I first got it, but then after having to use another mouse for a couple weeks on a trip (I forgot this one ...

Nice mouse
by gjj1056 on October 22, 2009
Pros: 18 month battery life, stylish design, precision laser tracking, nano receiver, USB extension dock and dock clip are included, and the super smooth scroll wheel.
Cons: Scroll wheel loses its third button function, but you can program the button below it to act as a third button, something new to get used to. No darkfield technology like the Logitech Anywhere MX which can be used on glass.

Summary: The first thing that attracted me to buy this mouse was the 18-month battery life. Logitech's Setpoint software estimated over 547 days of use with my V550. It's really a big deal for me if I really need to change the batteries as often as 6 months or even a year. 18 months of battery life is above the standards of wireless mice.
The second thing that I like most about it is the nano receiver. It is so small that I would never need it to be unplugged again, even when I travel. There's also a bluetooth model, the V555b, in which you wouldn't have to take up a USB port, but I guess Logitech's advanced 2.4Ghz communicates much better than bluetooth, in terms of using mice. And you would also need to enable bluetooth every time you use it.
Logitech has proven its reliability for me, I have a 10 year old "BALL" mouse that runs as good as new up to date. I hope this model can last more than that. -
This is the perfect mouse! I love it.
by ibcnunabit on August 7, 2009
Pros: Wheel scrolls very smoothly, and has enough inertia and low friction that you can spin/scroll the whee completely through a long file with a flick of the finger. Lively and accurate response; simple, beautiful, minimalist design. L/R scrolling!
Cons: No cons really for me. Could use a couple of extra buttons, I guess, for gaming or whatnot--but they would mar the elegance of this fine little device. I think it looks REALISTICALLY futuristic (as compared to cinematically futuristic).
Summary: This mouse doesn't look especially impressive at first glance. But I'm here to tell you, that first glance is wrong. Any but perhaps the most ardent gaming fans ...
Summary: This mouse doesn't look especially impressive at first glance. But I'm here to tell you, that first glance is wrong. Any but perhaps the most ardent gaming fans will love this mouse, once they've used it. It's perfectly fine for gaming, but it's perfect for heavy users of the internet, word processors, or spreadsheets. This scroll wheel's a real gem!
Hot Geek tip: Attach a dock clip to your belt for quick-draw nerd supremacy! (At your side for "gunslinger style," or at the belt buckle for "spy style."
First off, I don't see why this is called a notebook mouse. That's just marketing if you ask me. Sure, it's perfect for a notebook (or, as in my case, a netbook)--but it works really great as a desktop mouse, too. I got one for my netbook, and went back and got another for my desktop.
Installation was nonexistent. Plug it in. It works. Mouse away. The batteries are supposed to last 18 months, which is a long time. LONGER if you turn it off when you're not using it. (When you put it on the dock clip it turns off automatically, also--as well as when you put the USB receiver in its special little hidey-hole inside the mouse for storage.)
Fits fine in the hand; very comfortable. Simple, attractive shape. I like the shiny-silver, minimalist design. I wouldn't put one of the clever little metal dock clips on my nice new netbook, but I did put one on the file cabinet beside my computer desk where it hangs conveniently for me when I need it. Perfect! I know otherwise I'd be searching for it every day. (That's one good thing about a corded mouse--it's attached so you don't lose it.) Mine came with three dock clips, two with a silvery satin-finish look and one black. I'm sure I'll find places for the other two.
The scroll wheel itself is perfect. Normally I like detents (light ones, not too clunky), but the ability of this wheel to spin combined with just the right amount of inertia beats anything else I've come across. With this mouse, I've become a convert to smooth scrolling. The features that distinguish this smooth scroller to others I've hated in the past are twofold--low friction and sufficient mass for adequate angular momentum. It's a flywheel!
Big Excel users NEED this mouse. Ever try to scroll through a big Excel file---scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, it takes forever--or you hold down the little scroll arrow buttons, still slow....then you try to drag the tiny, shrunken toolbar (from a lot of rows) and it zooms by so fast that it skips everything? With this wheel, you flick it--and everything just keeps moving past until it slowly comes to a stop, then you can just flick it again. Ni-i-i-ice. It's not the first mouse to have this feature (MX Revolution?), but it's the first one that I'VE had and it's awesome--and at half the price of the MX.
The left/right leaning side scroll is great, too--again, especially for Excel. But it makes a great, intuitive game control as well (great for a dodge, sidestep, strafe, or left-look/right-look, as you prefer).
I was surprised to see that it comes with a little USB extension cord and stand--a handy little extra. I had no need for it with the mouse, but it nicely allowed me to extend the reach of my graphics tablet, so that was cool. Also makes it handier to plug in a thumb drive without having to reach and try to plug in blindly.
Bottom line: whether for a desktop, notebook, or netbook--get it; you'll never look back.
A must for spreadsheets--save your scroll finger! Smooth and responsive. Great value at $49.

Or for students--- inside at the top of your book bag, back pack, or hand bag so it doesn't get lost down at the bottom.
Commuter computer users can put one on their car dashboard or car door for convenience.

Great Laptop Mouse
by andresg01 on January 5, 2009
Pros: Good quality, accurate, portable, you can customize all buttons and scroll wheel. It looks nice, not too flashy, not to plain.
Cons: Useless clip-on feature, I mean who wants the mouse hanging on the lid of your laptop? Little pricey! You can find it cheaper online.
Summary: If you want a high quality laptop mouse, with a really small receiver and some degree of customization, this could be the mouse for you.
