The bad: Side button hard to use with a standard mouse grip.
The bottom line: Microsoft's Arc mouse is almost as functional as its form is pleasing. The travel-friendly features make perfect sense, and in general, it's a serviceable mouse for Macs and PCs. Only a few minor design issues hold it back.

A Cool Idea That Doesn't Pan Out
by hubec on May 15, 2009
Pros: Very cool shape that is elegant and makes you think "why aren't all notebook mice like this?" Unfolded it reminds me of those bad-ass rolling/shooting force-field droids in Star Wars...
Cons: It's not as accurate as other modern top of the line mice. The wheel doesn't always register a movement. The working ergonomics are poor.
Summary: I expected better performance from the mouse itself (poor point & scroll accuracy) this isn't a cheap mouse, I expected better precision. I also expected much better ergonomics when ...
Summary: I expected better performance from the mouse itself (poor point & scroll accuracy) this isn't a cheap mouse, I expected better precision. I also expected much better ergonomics when actually using the mouse. Your thumb and pinky have no place to rest when using this mouse. On a normal mouse when I'm making broad movements my thumb and pinky are resting on the side of the mouse, when I'm doing very precise movements they're touching the desk and dampening/controlling the mouse movement. You can't do either of those things with the arc mouse.

Summary: Microsoft called me back Friday 11/07/08 saying they wanted the 3 mice I had shipped to them as this was the first they had heard of a problem I told them to check the internet as there are many many of the same scroll button complaints. They said it would be a while before I got Replacements. I assume they didn't know because places like best buy do not return items or report problems very easily instead they just sell the stuff in bulk as return merchandise.

Sweet design-lousy engineering-Scroll wheel design flaw
by n721pc on June 15, 2009
Pros: Well built frame, excellent concept. Clever BT storage. Beautiful idea, bad execution
Cons: I've had two of these. The scroll wheel stopped working within 2 -3 weeks each time. Web search shows this is a common problem This time I'll call Microsoft to see if they have fixed the problem. If they have, I would recommend this mouse to anyone.

Summary: I was taken with the design. and impressed with what seemed like high quality construction when I opened the box. Even the packaging was impressive. The "feel" wasn't to my liking out of the box. The pointer was extremely smooth, but less than one inch of movement caused full screen travel of the mouse. This can be reset in Control Panel each time it is necessary to switch from the desktop to the laptop mouse. That gets to be a pain but is easily remedied by downloading and installing the Arc driver software. So bottom line - it's curently a flawed product with the potential to be great. I hope they get it fixed.

Super nice feel, well built & works right out of the box
by Ironhorse99/Mike on October 28, 2008
Pros: It works so well on ordinary surfaces. I use mine on a 70 yr. old wooden desk & it slides along like it's on glass. And as far as looks go it's simply elegant.
Cons: none. I have heard though that the wheel has broken on several units.
Summary: I just purchased mine today(10/28)at Sams club for $39.86. I?ve never used anything but the touch-pad on my Acer Lappy & after today I?ll ...
Summary: I just purchased mine today(10/28)at Sams club for $39.86. I?ve never used anything but the touch-pad on my Acer Lappy & after today I?ll never use it again!! As Sam?s is owned by Wal-Mart don?t be surprised to find it there at a similar price point. This device is so smooth on even a hard wood desk that I use & is very elegant looking as well. I can?t find a single issue that comes close to a negative. It fits very comfortably in the palm of my hand & works right out of the box?.no drivers needed. I did however download the app for it though you don?t really need to.It has a very solid feel. You won?t be dissapointed if you decide to go with it.

One of the best mouses ive used but has its flaws
by Stew94 on September 11, 2011
Pros: LIght weight
Easy set up for the spare button commands
Easy to take with you
Pretty quick for gaming or just normal useCons: The spare button cant be hit if your pressing on the left mouse button
They only last a couple months (well my last five did)Summary: I would have given it a higher rating if they never broke so often. If you even do buy one of these make sure its covered if you break it ...
Summary: I would have given it a higher rating if they never broke so often. If you even do buy one of these make sure its covered if you break it even though its about $40 if you keep using these buying them over and over adds up. But apart from that a great mouse for gaming, house hold use or just at work
They just dont last.

A great mouse for a great price

Summary: This mouse is really great. It did take me around a day to get used to the design, because you have to hold it in a different way that a standard mouse (more towards the front). I rarely change the batteries, and I use batteries in China where I live, which typically have horrible lifespans. The laser allows the mouse pointer to move well, regardless of if it's on our marble table or even on our couch!

Summary: The Arc Mouse is a perfect mouse for laptops. It features a lightweight design and comfortable shape that can be essential for long mouse usage. The inclusion of a 3rd button, sporting along the side of the mouse is a nice touch, wit the exception that it can't be programmed for custom commands. Its strange shape, although comfortable, is hard to use at first, becoming easier with prolonged use. Its quite a stylish mouse and folds up to 60% of its full design.

Nice, but not a keeper
by mavi22 on February 3, 2010
Pros: It's nicely styled, lightweight and portable.
Cons: The side button is nearly unusable because of bad placement (can't push it without right clicking at the same time) and the precision is very bad in general, a disaster for any kind of gaming.
Summary: The arcmouse has a few flaws, mainly the precision is very very bad. Even clicking a minimize button from a window is becoming difficult at times. The side button (back ...
Summary: The arcmouse has a few flaws, mainly the precision is very very bad. Even clicking a minimize button from a window is becoming difficult at times. The side button (back button by default) is nearly unusable, the scorrlwheel is very toy-like plastic and feels extremely cheap. this mouse, althoug stylish in design, is too expensive and uneasy for my liking

HORRID...Do Not Buy!
by Chaos-Katie on January 23, 2010
Pros: Nice design, cool fold up feature, and sleek looking

Summary: Absolutely horrible on a functionality level, sporadic scrolling, shaky and jumpy, sometimes wouldn't connect to USB. I really liked the design, fits hand well, folds up so it's good for on the go (was the reason for purchasing it in the first place). After a month and a half I finally went out and purchased a $20 wireless Targus and has worked great. This mouse was the first Microsoft mouse I have purchased and would be the last. Don't buy, it really is a bad purchase. I found similar reviews on Best Buy as well.

Great mouse!
by Wolfie2k5 on July 21, 2009
Pros: Folds up to 60% of it's length, accurate, durable. Still on the 1st set of batteries 4 months later. Feels just right in my hand.
Cons: No rechargeable batteries.
