The good: No USB receiver required, ambidextrous design, thumb button included.
The bad: Squat shape not comfortable for long-term use; not as thin as other laptop mice.
The bottom line: For mobile mousing without the hassle of a receiver, Microsoft's Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 fits the bill as long as you don't mind its somewhat lumpy design.

Overall an outstanding product!!!

Pros: Flawless conectivity, connection is so easy and works without flaw
Incredible accuracy, the accuracy of the laser that Microsoft uses in this mouse is outstanding, if i was a gamer this would satisfy my needs perfectly.
Good feel, fits well in hand
Cons: The only negative thing about this mouse is the scroller, it is a little bit rough if your not scrolling straight up and down, if you dont then it "sticks" on the side, other than this it is perfect.

Summary: Microsoft has come through with another outstanding product, this is an incredible mouse for a not so hefty price like other mice come with. At $35-$40 this is and will always be an incredible investment. This is the first and if it stands up to its promise of durability will be my only laptop mouse that i will ever need.
It's not so bad.....!

Pros: Attractive appearance, bluetooth, works on any surface flawlessly, decent size - not too big or small so it fits well in my hand, and portable!
Cons: Noisy scroll wheel that sometimes sticks.

Summary: I bought this mouse a few days ago (30% off at Circuit City closing sale) and I'm quite happy with my purchase so far. I bought it for use with my Dell Inspiron 1420 notebook, and mainly purchased it due to the Bluetooth connectivity (hate those clunky USB connectors, and since my notebook has built-in Bluetooth, it was exactl what I was looking for). I run Linux on my notebook and I've had problems with my touchpad mouse being a little finicky - I constantly find myself having problems with it so I needed an alternative desperately.
Also since I run Linux, I've had no problems remapping the buttons as some have had in Windows (ironically since it's a MS mouse, hehe), so no comments there.
I had no problems pairing this device with my notebook and it's stayed paired since I began using it. I was surprised to find that there is no indication that it's on, except for the green/red blinking light when you initially press the connect button. This doesn't really bother me, but it threw me off at first not having this feature.
This mouse feels perfect in my hand. I've been using it almost non-stop for the past 3 or 4 hours with no discomfort. I am a female with smaller hands, however, and can see how it might not fit well in a larger hand. It fits well for me, not too big or small, and also fits well in my (small) laptop bag. Comes with a nice little carrying pouch as well!
My most definite favourite thing about this mouse is that it seems to work on any surface. I'm laying in my bed right now using only my sheets as a mousepad and it's absolutely flawless. Perfectly smooth with no skipping! When I bought the mouse, I also almost bought a hard mousepad to go along with it since I am frequently laying in bed on my laptop, and I'm glad I didn't as it would have been an unnecessary purchase.
The mouse is also quite pretty (again, female...), which is another reason why I chose it.
My only real 'problem' is that the scroll wheel is noisy - although I prefer a little noise over complete silence in a scroll wheel, this one goes a little too far. Moreover, the scroll wheel occasionally "sticks" in one spot, and a great deal more force has to be put into scrolling past this point, which lunges the scroll way further down than I want.
I expect that through frequent use the wheel will loosen up a bit, though, so I'm not real worried about it.
Overall a great purchase, IMO :)
Great Bluetooth Mouse

Pros: Battery Life, Strong Bluetooth Connectivity, Size, Accuracy, Sensitivity, Ergonomics, Clicking/Scrolling buttons aren't as sensitive as other mice
Cons: Size and Ergonomics are really a personal choice with this mouse

Summary: I've been using this mouse for about 6 months now and I have had absolutely NO connectivity issues. I find the mouse buttons and scroll wheel to be perfect in terms of sensitivity when clicking them or scrolling the wheel.
The shape of the mouse is really a personal choice as this notebook mouse is somewhat "stubby" and I think most people look for something that is thin and small when purchasing a notebook mouse. I personally find the ergonomics of this small/stubby mouse to be perfect for even my big hands.
The 2AAA batteries lasts about a month for me with at least 10 hours of use everyday.
The sensitivity of the mouse is phenomenal and I actually had to lower the settings for the mouse as they were too sensitive.
Changing the settings for this mouse are not a problem at all; just go to Control Panel and Mouse and you can change the pointer options, sensitivity...
I would definitely recommend this notebook mouse but I would suggest any potential buyer to go to a store to get the feel of it first rather than immediately purchasing it online since the shape and ergonomics of the mouse a subjective.
what a surprise !! smooth as butter mousing !!
by macfan123 on September 27, 2008
Pros: works flawlessly on my iMac. connects instantly .
works on any surface , even a very reflective one.
with Microsoft driver installed, you can reassign the extra buttons easily even on a Mac.
Totally Mac friendly !
Cons: a bit small. well... it's suppose to be portable although i use it for the desktop (imac). the size is not a big issue .
besides that ,it's a terrific mouse.
Summary: if you want a well designed bluetooth mouth that connects fast and easily to your pc or Mac, this mouse is for you.

if you want a mouse that is very accurate and runs so smooth , this is the one.
if you want a MS mouse that is Mac friendly. its here ! and this comes from a Mac user (!).
once you pair it , its ready for use at anytime.
glides smoothly and never skips.
as far as i can see - no lag or latency whatsoever. acts as a wired mouse. really.
has a proprietary laser technology and it actually works extremely well.
Works Better Than A Corded Mouse!

Summary: I bought this for my MacBook Air and it works perfectly. It never looses connection and is just as responsive as a mouse that is connected via a cable. This mouse is more precise than the Apple Mighty Mouse I use for my Mac Mini at home. I have customized buttons so it totally meets my expectations. The only question is... Does it have an AUTO-OFF feature?
hated it; sloppy clicking, uncomfortable even for my small hands
by fknwackadoo on August 1, 2008
Pros: established bluetooth connect and stayed connected
Cons: if you click more than once every minute or so, this mouse will make you crazy. The clicking feels remarkably sloppy and the tracking seems very imprecise compared to my desktop mouse.

Summary: I hated this mouse and am returning it as soon as I return from my business trip. The clicking is incredibly sloppy, the tracking is imprecise and it seems to be very fussy about surfaces. Further, while I have small hands and didn't thought this mouse would be a perfect fit, it is uncomfortable even for my hands after a short time. It also burned through batteries very quickly.
I should have know better, I had a microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse combo which I hated and have always preferred Logitech products (which I am currently using with my desktop.)
Easy to Set Up and Very Good Little Mouse!!
