Great... Unless You Want to Reassign Buttons
by HKApple on November 9, 2007
Pros: Basically works as advertised; smooth operation and high-quality "look and feel"; compact for superior portability.
Cons: Lack of driver support limits customizability.

Summary: This mouse works as advertised on a ThinkPad notebook running Windows XP. Bluetooth pairing was painless, and I'm pleased with the smooth functioning of the mouse, not to mention the elimination of the transceiver unit--one more black box I'd have to schlep around.
Size and shape are matters of personal preference, and I would agree with those who suggest trading off some comfort (which would mean a larger size for my hand) is an acceptable compromise for portability. Overall, this mouse has a quality feel and seems to be well made; it has a nice heft to it, and the buttons and wheel provide solid, reassuring tactile feedback.
My biggest beef with this mouse is the lack of a dedicated or inclusive driver. It does not come with a driver disk, and it is not listed among the supported models in the latest Microsoft IntelliPoint software. (I have no idea to what CNET editor Dan Ackerman is referring when he writes "Microsoft wants you to install its custom driver software.")
Please don't misunderstand: this mouse works fine out of the box under Win XP (and, presumably, Vista). You'll only want a new driver if you're not happy with the default button assignments.
I called Microsoft technical support about this omission, and they confirmed that anyone who wants to reassign button functions is SOL... for now. The tech rep would not confirm whether a future version of IntelliPoint would support this mouse, but I remain hopeful.
As of this writing (8 November 2007), therefore, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this mouse. As soon as the software side of things catch up, I'll be singing a different tune.6 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

This is so cool
by joem86 on September 30, 2008
Pros: good shape
laser tracking
bluetooth
side buttonCons: no "the mouse is on and connected" indicator. I had to wiggle the mouse to confirm it worked
Scrolling down is a tad bit sticky at times. I probably would not play games with this.
Scrolling up is consistently loud.Summary: Maybe I'm just impressed with my jump to bluetooth. I've owned corded laser mice before and the tracking is just as smooth. The shape of it is small ...
Summary: Maybe I'm just impressed with my jump to bluetooth. I've owned corded laser mice before and the tracking is just as smooth. The shape of it is small enough to fit in my backpack, but not too small to be uncomfortable. I can use this thing across the room without any problems! I got a good deal on this particular mouse, but I'd gladly recommend it at full price.

I'm content!
by jimmyco2008 on July 18, 2011
Pros: Bluetooth, accurate, good connection, pretty ergonomic.
Cons: Scroll wheel button is a little too easy to press imo, but you get used to it so that you dont accidentally press down on it when scrolling, it's probably because the mouse is considerably smaller than my old one, like I said, just gotta adjust. The back

Summary: A lot of people complained about this mouse in the reviews, however I think it's a great mouse, could be better like all things, it's not perfect, but it gets the job done. As for that non-reprogrammable back button, I've never had a mouse with such an extra button as that, so I don't really care, and I use the back button sometimes, it's more convenient than not. Like I said, I'm content and satisfied with the purchase, which is, contrary to Office Depot's website, only $40.99 (at least at my local retail store), compared to Bestbuy's like $55. So what are you waiting for! Buy it! lol

Great Mouse for traveling!
by ltwhiteagle on March 1, 2011
Pros: Great Battery life with standby mode. Syncs immediate after it turns on. Responsive. No need for a Bluetooth adapter if your computer has Bluetooth built in. Easy to use and sync. Lots of buttons.
Cons: Could be more responsive.

Summary: The mouse is small and feels great in the hand. It was easy to pair and has stayed pair with my computer, HP EliteBook 6930p for over a year now without needing to my re-synced, even after a battery change. Also over the year, I've only gone through one set of AAA batteries. It has an efficient sleep mode if you forget to turn it off. It has a nice set of buttons like scrolling, last page viewed, left and right click, and center push on the scroll wheel. It also has a nice battery indicator light that I rarely even look at with such a huge battery life.
Overall, I really like this mouse, especially after using previous Microsoft versions that required a Bluetooth adapter to stick out the side or back of your computer. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a compact mouse for traveling, just make sure your laptop has Bluetooth built in. -
I use this mouse with my BT enabled laptop
by Eval_Evaluator on February 17, 2011
Pros: Correct size (for me), no connection problems with Win7, no drops in connection, accurate mouse movement, responsive
Cons: I take one star out of a perfect 5 because of the dismal battery life which is measured by days, instead of weeks
Summary: I would recommand this mouse with reservations on battery life.

Updated on Oct 7, 2011Summary: I would recommand this mouse with reservations on battery life.
One problem I am having with this mouse is actually related to Bluetooth technology. BT interferes with WIFI so, if I am doing heavy WIFI activity on my laptop (i.e. transferring a large file via WIFI) the mouse operation becomes erratic. So I keep a wired mouse handy when I do large file transfers.

No success! Can't locate a driver. Please help.
by Jennifer Wall on November 16, 2010
Pros: It needs to come with a driver for those of us who are using a bluetooth adaptor and don't have bluetooth installed otherwise.
Cons: I like the size but want to use it. At present it is simply an annoying ornament!
Summary: I would be more than delighted to comment here when I get the driver and can use the mouse.

Works as advertised, pathetic battery life
by PhilParsons on September 13, 2010

Summary: I bought this as a portable replacement for my notebook which has built-in bluetooth. Originally I was getting a month or more battery life, and then suddenly it seemed I was replacing an aweful lot of batteries, so I started tracking and found I was now getting (on average) 8 days per pair. I thought that perhaps the box of batteries I was using may have been older, so tracked the life through that box (24 duracell) with the same result, 8 days average. The next box I bought, the same stats held, so my next recourse is to try a replacement. I know it is capable of a month or more per pair of batteries, but 8 days is too expensive. I did try hi-capacity rechargables, but they were even worse that the Duracells.

Microsoft sells it; doesn't provide the driver for it
by Messinger on September 10, 2010
Pros: Feels great in my hand, the buttons and scroll wheel function really nice. Small size and quick, reliable pairing makes this a great match to a laptop with bluetooth built-in.
Cons: Why does Microsoft sell a mouse without driver support? Others here have commented that buttons cannot be reassigned, which is correct, but doesn't tell the whole story. The wheel button, for example, can't even be made to have default functionality.
Summary: Don't buy the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 until such time as Microsoft provides a driver for it.

Excellent mouse
by domer1980 on February 25, 2010
Pros: Freedom (no wires)! Pairs in seconds to Belkin mini Bluetooth adapter. I'm a fan of all MS mouses (never liked feel/function of other brands). Tracking's VERY responsive (much more sensitive than corded USB mouse), which took a little getting used 2.
Cons: Small-ish (but not uncomfortable.). BT connection sleeps w/ inactivity (expected), but 'wakes up' w/ a shake (like its owner). Scroll wheel is noisy.
Summary: I have experienced NO problems with this mouse. ~~ If your laptop does not have internal BlueTooth (my old one did, not new one), you need an external BT adaptor. I ...
Summary: I have experienced NO problems with this mouse. ~~ If your laptop does not have internal BlueTooth (my old one did, not new one), you need an external BT adaptor. I didn't like the standard 2"-3" long adaptors, so got Belkin's mini adaptor that sticks out about 1/2" (slick!). ~~ I truly like this mouse but now yearn 4 similar MS Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 w/ presenter/media controls & laser (PowerPoint!).
