Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse price range: $19.95

The good: Long battery life; easy to install; stylish design; innovative scrollwheel; ambidextrous.
The bad: Wordy instructions; no user manual.
The bottom line: Microsoft's new Wireless Optical Mouse is the ultimate choice for everyday mousing.
Priced at a reasonable $45 and available in a variety of shimmering colors, Microsoft's updated Wireless Optical Mouse may be the ideal everyday mouse. Plus, it's cord-free, so there's no need to worry about dreaded desktop entanglements.
Though Microsoft's instructions are overly wordy, our test setup for this mouse was simple and quick, taking less than 10 minutes. The base, which is housed in a cool-looking opaque case, comes PS/2 and USB ready. It is not, however, a recharging station for the mouse, which instead boasts more than six months of estimated battery life, as compared to the average of three months for most other wireless mice, before you'll need to replace the two AAs.
The overall look of the Wireless Optical Mouse is slick and stylish. It sports a comfortable ergonomic design, with added points for being ambidextrous. Perhaps because of the latter, Microsoft sticks to a simple three-button layout, which you can configure however you desire.
The most notable feature of this mouse--and of all new Microsoft mice--is the Tilt Wheel Technology. This nifty attribute allows you to scroll through windows horizontally by simply tilting the scrollwheel to one side or the other. Another unique trait is the smooth movement of the scrollwheel, which doesn't continually click like those of other mice we've used.

Not good for use with laptop
Pros: probably fine with a desktop, but I don't know. When it worked, it was great.
Cons: This mouse caused all sorts of headaches when trying to use it with my laptop (a Sony Vaio GRT100P) because sometimes it would all of a sudden stop working. Apparently had to do with a conflict with the touchpad and I went back and forth with the Sony fo

Summary: Other that being made my Microsoft, this mouse has few negative things to be said about it. I can use this mouse for hours on end without becomming uncomfortable or cramped. I've had this mouse for over a year and, using extensively, have only had to replace the two AA batteries one time. If you looking for a mouse that will reach a fairly long range and works on most surfaces, this is a product you shouldn't pass by. Highly recommended.

Feels nice but cheap internal parts.
by drawitguy on March 17, 2011
Pros: Very ergo love thumb buttons
Cons: Weak signal even if transmitter is close. Bought three at same time, now all three are DEAD. Right or left click buttons fail! Not made for production use maybe good home mouse.

OK mouse with a couple of issues

The good:
I like the size. I can't use mini-mice, like for notebooks. It just cramps up my hand. Space isn't _that_ much of a premium for me when I'm on the road. Better it be comfortable when you have to use it for extended periods of time.
The tilt function on the scroll wheel is a nice addition.
It was in-expensive. Why would you pay $99+ for a mouse? $10.50 from eBay, new.
The bad:
The wheel physically has a smooth movement, but the screen on the computer moves in clicks. When you are "between clicks" on the scroll wheel, the slightest movement will set it off to the next click, moving your page. Very annoying when you are about to click on something or otherwise need precision movement. And it is a little too fast for my taste. I tried to adjust it with the software, but it only helped a little bit.
The transmitter is really big, like nearly the footprint of the mouse itself. -
Nothing Special

Cons: Only the 1 extra button

I bought a rechargeable HP model. 2 died within a year, So I went with MS.
My HP mouse had 5 programmable buttons and I LOVED it. MS gives you more options in programing the middle button (you can program it to open any program) but the middle button takes several clicks to get it to work.
I have mine programed (in control panel) at the fastest pointer speed, but it still seems slow to me, I'll get use to that. But the lack of other buttons has me ordering the MS laser mouse (5000 model) which has 5 buttons and a 3 year warranty compared to the 1 year warranty that comes with this mouse.
Also I have big hands and this mouse is not comfortable for me. the big hump in the middle does not rest comfortable in the palm of my hand. this design is supposed to make it ambidextrous, but as a right handed person, this mouse just won't do.
I realize that I am being picky here but as the single piece of external hardware that is used the most in controlling my PC, I want comfort and options. -
Great ambidiextrous setup
by deroblesm on January 22, 2008
Pros: Plug & play without any additional setup
Cons: hard middle button (tilting and 3rd click) may get your fingers tired soon

I have just connected the mouse and have ever needed to install any other driver.
It is nice that the scroll does not click and it is really smooth....Summary: Pros:
I have just connected the mouse and have ever needed to install any other driver.
It is nice that the scroll does not click and it is really smooth.
Also when you want to rest your hand you can easily switch to the other one if you know how to use it. You won't notice it is a right handed or left handed mouse.
Cons:
I didn't find useful the tilt functionality because it does not work with all applications or at least does not work as expected. (I.e. Mozilla explorer, codewright source code editor)
It sometimes is interference prone, once I thought it was the batteries, then I ended up getting the mouse like one inch from the transmitter. It might have been this noisy environment I work in. Having so many electronics around does not help this mouse.
I wouldn't pay more than $30 for this one. -

Summary: This is a great mouse that is easy to use. All you do is plug in your USB receiver, wait about 2 minutes, and BOOM! Your ready to go. The only downside of this is the fact that you have to replace the batteries depending on how often you use your mouse. Which usually means quite often.

Summary: This is a great buy. I got mine for under $20 (media play final sale). It is very comfortable to use and is abidextrous. The scroll wheel is amazing. It has the right combination of fluid motion and resistance and pivots side to side incase you want to move the screen left and right.
The transceiver is bulky although it has good range. I don't take the mouse with me since the tranciever is so bulky but if you have a desktop its perfect. The battery life is good although I wish there was an off swith incase you do have to travel with it. It would've been nice if it was blue tooth without a transceiver but for the money its a great deal.
