Can't hold a signal
Pros: Small and easy set up.
Cons: After 5 months of no problems, the modem would drop the cable signal 5-8 times a day. Reseting the modem never helped. It came back on when it wanted to. I returned it and got a motorola one and have had no problems with that one.

Summary: We purchased this modem when we started cable Internet service. The connection kept being broken and we at first assumed it was the cable service. After they checked it out a couple of times, we decided it must be the modem. Bought a new (and different brand) cable modem and haven't had a problem since. Would NOT recommend purchasing this modem.

Ping rate was so poor Comcast wanted to check the line to my office. Motorola SB5120 installed quicker then the time it takes to read this.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Comcast informed me it was defective.

Summary: It's been two years since I last purchased D-Link product. Previous purchase was also defective, D-Link eventually agreed. D-Link provided three products for free after not handling my RMA correctly, these products only lasted for a few months. I thought that if D-Link was still in business two years later they might be worth giving another try as the specs were impressive. This modem lasted for three weeks. I intermittently received a "Welcome to Comcast" screen. Comcast kept coming over and checking everything and we could not figure out what was going wrong. Eventually, I happened to be on the phone with Comcast when the modem had an "episode" of disconnecting. They asked what I was doing to it since the voltage and frequency were going "crazy." I was not doing anything, my computer could not even see the modem. Comcast told me to go get a new modem. This was my new modem. Line was verified, computer verified, modem was bad. Upgrading the modem firmware (in classic D-Link confusing fashion) made no difference. Had good power as it is on a UPS with a good ground and newer cable. Traded this one in for a Motorola and it works perfectly with everything else being the same. Good bye forever D-Link...
Updated
New Motorola cable modem, sitting in the same spot, using the same UPS, same cable input, same ethernet cable, same router and same internet provider, works perfectly. There is no "Welcome to Comcast" screen. I no longer constantly call Comcast to ask what is wrong. I would recommend the Motorola Surfboard 5120. Good bye D-Link.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Cablemodem for the price
by mroccella on December 26, 2005
Pros: Priced lower than the others. Works well with Comcast. Has both Ethernet and USB interfaces. No connections problems.
Cons: None really

Summary: I bought this modem because DLink is known to make good products. After rebates, it costs almost half as much as Linksys and Motorola cablemodems. Since I would not have to pay the $3/mo modem rental fee, this modem would pay for itself in about a year.
I have read about all the problems some Comcast customers were having with this modem. I have not had any problems using this modem with my Comcast internet service. I just plugged it in and it worked. I consistently get between 4 to 5Mbs download speeds.
I highly recommend this modem. If you're looking for a modem with decent performance that will let you save on the monthly modem rental fee, then the DLink DCM-202 is the way to go.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

I have used this modem for 11/2 years with no problems
by Techpert on March 12, 2009
Pros: It's small, reliable and has no problem connecting to my cable provider. It's transfer rate is slightly higher than some more expensive modems
Cons: I have a lot of computer components with bright LEDs this one included (not really a problem)

by mtegio on December 3, 2008
Pros: Easy set up
Cons: Unreliable. Unreasonable warranty process. Endless phone trees and runarounds.

Flaky Product (regularly loses internet connection) & Lousy Customer Service from Buy.com
by jcollard on January 27, 2007
Pros: Buy.com - smooth purchase process & fast delivery; D-Link DCM-202, fast performance (when it is connected)
Cons: Buy.com (Lousy return policy), D-Link DCM-202 (regularly loses connection to the internet)
Summary: I purchased a D-Link DCM-202 from Buy.com on 1/20/07. They shipped it on 1/22. I received it 1/23. I installed it that evening. On 1/...
Summary: I purchased a D-Link DCM-202 from Buy.com on 1/20/07. They shipped it on 1/22. I received it 1/23. I installed it that evening. On 1/24, I discovered the modem would not connect to the internet. I reset the modem by unplugging it and plugging it back in. The problem appeared to be resolved. On 1/26, the problem recurred. While looking for a solution to the problem, I discovered what several of you have written here, that this modem regularly loses connection to the internet. If it was new internet service or a new setup, the problem might be caused by other factors but I have had the same service and the same system setup for several years and I never had any problems like this with the Linksys cable modem which this unit replaced.
My problems with Buy.com began when I contacted them for an RMA number to return the product on January 27. They refused to provide a refund instead offering an exchange. I refused an exchange on the basis that the connection problem with the D-Link cable modem has been reported previously by a number of people and I had the unit for less than 4 days. They asked for additional information with regard to the problem, whether the packaging was intact, and if the UPC code was still attached (there is a $20 rebate currently being offered by this manufacturer). I again described the problem (including providing a link to this site), informed them that the packaging was completely intact, and that the UPC code was still attached to the box. I again requested a refund to which they again refused, instead providing me with instructions on how to return it for an exchange. This is completely unacceptable given the number of other people who have reported similar problems with this device. I would rather send it back for a refund and purchase a device from another manufacturer such as the highly rated Motorola cable modem also listed on this site. -
Severe problem for Comcast users
by HarlequinDuck on January 11, 2007
Pros: Unknown yet as it will not run without a firmware upgrade.

Summary: If you are a Comcast customer, the unit requires a firmware upgrade. D-Link does not warn you of this in any of the documentation, but does give you the information how to do update the firmware after you have researched the problem. They warn you that making this upgrade is at your own risk and they assume no liability if it does not work. If I can make it work I will submit another review.
