Summary: This modem is rated at 38 mbps max. I received this modem 3 days ago it has been working at 54 mbps.It is small and slim reguiring little space. If you use the usb cable the usb driver is required.I didn't have to call my cable provider. After connecting it downloaded drivers for comcast after I put in account. My laptop and other pc works twice as fast without signal drops. This unit is much faster than the cable provider modem. It has a 1 year warrenty. Both cables are provided.

Summary: Returned Comcast rented modem after buying this modem based on CNET reviews. Worked well for a week, before Modem started recycling on/off losing cable signal. Motorola tech support suggested they would ship out a new one. I paid for shipping cost. (Also beware that consumer is responsible for additional shipping of old modem back to Motorola.) Should have just taken it back to store. Left a bad taste for all things Motorola.

Summary: Overall, I'm pleased with the modem, I got mine at Best Buy for around $80, I've had it for about a week now. So far, it hasn't dropped out, seems reliable, and is quite brisk.
The only thing I can really complain about is that the design is somewhat blan, none the less though, this is highly recommended if you have Cable internet.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Worked fine for 4 months then started rebooting.
by jscott418-21618367473133020464 on November 5, 2011
Pros: Setup was easy, just a call to Comcast. Speed and function were fine initially.
Cons: Lasted only 4 months until it started to reboot several times a day. Motorola tech support is worthless as they try and blame the ISP even though Comcast came out and checked the signals. They even admitted the signals were not the problem.
Summary: I would stay away from this modem if I was needing a modem. I was in a pinch when I bought this one. My old modem of several years just ...
Summary: I would stay away from this modem if I was needing a modem. I was in a pinch when I bought this one. My old modem of several years just stopped working and I rushed out the Walmart to buy one. All they had was this model and so I bought it. The modem did work fine at first but then after I was past the 90 day return policy for Walmart the modem started to reboot frequently. A call to Comcast created a service call to check signals and cable quality. The tech did not find any significant problems. I still had reboots and a call to Motorola tech support was unhelpful as they blamed Comcast even though they admitted the signal levels were fine. After more talk with Comcast I was convinced it was the modem. I went out and bought a modem SB6121 and have not had any issues since. My only conclusion is that something in these SB5101 modems is weak and fails after only a few months. I found that maybe they over heat eventually causing the issue. All I can say is buyer beware.

Lost speed with 5101U compared to the 5120 modem.

Pros: Nothing special and overpriced
Cons: * Replaced a 8 year old 5120 with this new 5101U. Went from 28 to 32 mbs to 18 to 22 mbs.

Reliable and fast
by lastelement21 on February 1, 2010
Pros: I've had no difficulties with this modem in 3 years. Its been fast, and hasn't needed rebooting. Have used it in two houses now.
Cons: None that I can think of, other than my general dislike of power bricks at the outlet instead of inline in the cord.
Summary: Great modem, cheap to buy these days too.

Summary: The modem is great, looks very slim with intuitive lights in the front which tells you what's going on; it also has a standby button which makes it easy to troubleshot the modem and also adds an extra layer of security as you can safely put the modem in standby mode and the connection to the internet is disabled so that nothing can get into your PC while you are not around and watching; as soon as you decide to return from standby mode just press the button and presto you are back on line instantly without any waiting to reconnect or anything, this modem is also Docsis 2.0 ready and 1.1 backward compatible, I'm getting speeds that are above what most people on my ISP get with it, It's worthy every penny, get it, you won't regret it!
