The good: The Griffin iTrip Universal is a small, rechargeable FM radio transmitter compatible with any audio source featuring a headphone output.
The bad: The Griffin iTrip Universal has limited range, a small screen, indistinguishable controls, and requires a USB connection to recharge.
The bottom line: The Griffin iTrip Universal isn't ideal as an in-car transmitter, but its USB power and small size make it well-suited for use around the home.
Summary: I bought this to replace a transmitter (an Audia X) that had great range, but I was tired of buying AAA's for it. I guess I'll be using my old one, this one is useless. I have to hold it right next to my car's antenna to get a signal, but seeing as my antenna is on the trunk of my car, it's not usable. Hmmm...should I tape the transmitter to the antenna and run a wire through the window and up to my front seat, or should I go back to buying AAA's? Don't buy this transmitter.
Pros: Compact size, rechargeability, plug in cable, auto power on/off
Cons: Limited battery life, unit doesn't remember last frequency

Summary: Bought this for my Sony mp3 after my last transmitter (unbranded belkin - TC II style) became battered with a frayed connecting cable. As Sony continues to be more interested in ipod accessories than its own brand, the itrip and the usb socket and rechargeability seemed a good alternative. The plug in cable also avoids damage to the connecting cable where it joins the unit, which was a problem for me previously. I have never expected crystal clear sound from these devices and so the unit performs reasonably well for me.
A few gripes though, about the battery life (seems to run down after about 4 hours) and the fact that each time you turn it on you need to re-select your chosen frequency from the presets - it doesn't remain on the preset you were previously using. Incidentally, when you turn on the unit it tunes to a seemingly random frequency. It appears that this is a suitable frequency to tune your radio in to, but there is nothing in the instruction sheet to explain this which is a bit odd as other units are sold on autoscan features.
Description:The iTrip Universal features a cool, rechargeable new design for the iTrip that plays well with others. Use with any audio source that uses a 1/8" (3.5mm) headphone jack - iPod, Sansa, Zune, portable CD players, you name it. Recharge iTrip universal's internal battery in any USB port (no more replacing batteries!), and then connect to your player with the included stereo audio cable. Three user-programmable presets save the best frequencies so you can access them quickly later. Wherever you go, iTrip Universal is the perfect partner for your portable audio.
