The good: The iPod Nano's new home button and longer screen offer a familiar smartphone-style interface, and the added Bluetooth compatibility opens the device up to a number of wireless audio accessories.
The bad: The screen resolution is mediocre, there's no integrated headphone remote, and it still lacks the camcorder, microphone, speaker, games, calendar, contacts, notes, and alarm clock that Apple cut from the Nano last year. And let's not forget that Lightning port, which breaks compatibility with your existing iPod speakers and accessories.
The bottom line: The seventh-generation iPod Nano is an incredibly compact portable media player with gym-friendly features, but it's overshadowed by the superior value of Apple's iPod Shuffle and fourth-generation iPod Touch.

Sounds Good.
by Tec Consumer on March 9, 2013
Pros: Small size. Nice display. Good sound.
Cons: No volume/control button on earbuds. Earbuds fall out while walking. Volume rocker/control button too easy to accidentally get pushed while in a pocket. Raised glass screen will get chipped without an ipod case.

Summary: I needed a small MP3 player with long battery life to replace my missing Walkman. Got this because it is so small and has a touch display. I didn't want the shuffle because I don't want to be going through my music blindly. I didn't want anything bigger because I already carry too many things with me as it is. This works well as an additional device on long days when I need my phone battery to last for extended periods of time for talk/text/internet. Using the phone for music drastically reduces battery life. I hate having to recharge devices all the time while on the go. It sounds really good. The new earbuds sound great--BUT. The new earbuds are basically for indoor use only. Try walking or running with them outdoors and they'll fall out. Wind only makes that worse. They should've come with a volume/control button like the ones that come with the iPhone. And leave it to Apple to design their device to REQUIRE additional accessories. The raised glass bezel touch screen is a terrible feature. It will definitely get chipped if you don't purchase an additional ipod case to protect it. Meanwhile, the volume/control rocker on the side is a nice feature, but it is too sensitive to go in a pocket without accidentally getting pushed. Again, another obvious design feature which makes it require a case, which does eliminate that problem (yeah, I bought a case). Battery life is good--around 24 hours. Still not even close to my old Walkman, which lasted more than twice that and only needed to recharge once or twice a week. All around this is a very good device. It really sounds good, but appears to be intentionally design flawed. Although, the little display screen looks great. Yes, it doesn't come close to the retina, but for such a small screen I am really impressed with the level of contrast and pixel shading capability. Pretty amazing for such a tiny little screen.

Great replacement for 6th generation iPod nano
by zschmeez on October 20, 2012
Pros: Video, larger screen, earpods, battery life, lightweight
Cons: No cover flow, lightning connector incompatible with existing iPod accessories, no camera (5th gen has one)

Summary: The newest iPod nano is a great replacement for the previous generation. It adds video playback, a larger screen, the Lightning connector, and included earpods. It is a lot easier to use than the old one (I had one), and packs a longer-lasting battery (30 hours music!!!). Overall, it's worth it to upgrade. It's a great little iPod. (By the way, I think Graphite looks the best)
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MD481LL/A
- Description: About the size of a credit card - and just 5.4 mm thin - the new iPod nano is the thinnest iPod ever made. The 2.5-inch Multi-Touch display is nearly twice as big as the display on the previous iPod nano, so you can see more of the music, photos, and videos you love. Buttons let you quickly play, pause, change songs, or adjust the volume. The smooth new anodized aluminum design makes iPod nano feel as good as it sounds. Tap to play your favorite songs. Or entire albums. Or everything by one artist. You can even browse by genres or composers. Flip through your music: Album art looks great on the bigger screen. Or to keep things fresh, give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. Say you're listening to a song you love and you want to stay in the mood. Just tap Genius. It finds other songs on iPod nano that go great together and makes a Genius playlist for you. For more song combinations you wouldn't have thought of yourself, create Genius Mixes in iTunes and sync the ones you like to iPod nano. Then tap Genius Mixes and rediscover songs you haven't heard in a while - or find music you forgot you even had. Your music experience gets even better now that iPod nano has Bluetooth 4.0 built in. Pairing iPod nano with Bluetooth-enabled headphones and supported speakers is a cinch. With no wires in the way, working out with iPod nano is even easier. (No more getting wires caught in your free-weights.) And if your car's sound system is Bluetooth enabled, when you sit down in the driver's seat, your iPod nano is ready to pick up where you left off. Without missing a beat. FM radio keeps you up on what's going on out there - the game, the top news stories, your favorite talk shows - or whatever you love listening to. Just plug in your headphones and tap to see the controls. Flick the radio dial to change stations. Tap to set your favorites. Need to take a break? With Live Pause, you won't miss a minute. Just tap to pause the song or show, then tap again to continue. You can even rewind as far back as 15 minutes, so you can be sure of the lyrics you're belting out. Or fast-forward to catch up to a live broadcast.
